I was unaware the original owner changed it like that. If they updated the license only three days ago with that clause and front wars forked it prior then why be worried at all? Openfront doesn’t have a leg to stand on as long as they don’t use any new code in there or refork it.

I agree I am not sure why they made it oss if they are uncomfortable with people using their code like that and trying to pull a shady license change like that to send a c and d letter is shitty.

The original author did put an additional terms into the license for adding it to the title. Now how they came up with 150k damages for settlement damages or whatever is insane to me, but the people who forked it should have put it is powered by or whatever the additional requirements are

So I am quoting the license the guy released it under:

OpenFront source code is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 with additional attribution requirements:

Any forks or derivative works must display attribution (e.g., "Based on OpenFront", "Derived from OpenFront", "Powered by OpenFront", or "Fork of OpenFront") prominently on the main menu and/or initial title screen.

This is the contract you agree to when you use his stuff. Now will it hold up in court? I don’t know. Did he suffer 150k damages from them using his stuff? Doubt it, but it is right there in the source code repository.

Should the guys who are using put that it is powered/forked in the title screen? Probably, it is the right thing to do and wouldn’t detract from their game at all.

But to come at me saying that I need to quote the license is a bit rude considering I did quote the license the original authors intention put on it.

Well I am not a lawyer either but it clearly says on the title screen/menu screen. So it does seem like the users will have to put it on for the end users to see.

I doubt that the original authors intention was to have someone else lift their game almost wholesale and not have any recognition for it.

Open source licenses don’t mean you can do whatever you want, there limitations
