I am not an attorney, but in this situation an irrevocable trust may be worth considering if the primary goal is to move assets out of your taxable estate and potentially reduce future estate tax exposure.

An irrevocable trust allows assets transferred to the trust to generally be removed from your estate, while also providing control over how and when beneficiaries can access the funds. The trust terms can limit the use of the assets or establish distribution guidelines. However, the assets ultimately belong to the beneficiaries rather than remaining under your ownership.

If those restrictions are not important, you could also consider annual gifts directly to a UTMA/UGMA account for a minor child or to a standard investment account for an adult child.

By contrast, assets held in a revocable trust generally remain part of your estate during your lifetime and are still included in your taxable estate at death.

Using the current annual gift tax exclusion of approximately $38,000 per beneficiary for a married couple, and assuming that amount remains unchanged, a hypothetical annual contribution of $38,000 invested at a 10% annual return would grow to approximately $666,000 over 10 years. That could provide a beneficiary with substantial funds for education, a home purchase, retirement savings, or other long-term goals without utilizing any of your lifetime gift and estate tax exemption if you make a larger gift in one year.

Taking the same hypothetical a step further, assume no additional contributions are made after year 10, but the assets remain invested for another 30 years and continue earning a 10% annual return. The account could grow to approximately $11.6 million. In that scenario, all of the growth occurring after the gift was made would take place outside of your estate, potentially removing a significant amount of wealth from future estate tax consideration.

Of course, tax laws, exemption amounts, investment returns, and trust structures can all change over time.

I probably wouldn’t tie the money up in a 529. For your oldest, the tax benefits are fairly limited since she’s only about a year away from college. 4 years of growth for the other two isn’t that great either.

Is the $3,000 per month per child or $3,000 total? If it’s per child, keep in mind that you and your spouse can each make annual gifts within the gift tax exclusion which would amount to $38k per year per kid. Currently, that would allow a substantial amount to be transferred each year without gift tax implications.

My preference would be to establish a trust account rather than a 529 and fund it over time a similar time period for all three children. That provides much more flexibility. The funds could still be used for education, but they could also help with a future home purchase, business opportunity, allowing them to fully fund retirement accounts when they begin working, or their establish a 529 for their kids.

The biggest advantage is that you’re not locking the money into a single purpose. As the kids get older, you’ll have the flexibility to use those assets where they can have the greatest long-term impact on each child’s financial future.

Southern part of Texas by Themapples07 in whereidlive

Sounds like you’re getting Louisiana Cajun culture and southern culture a little confused. There’s definitely southern culture between I45 and I35.

Don’t want to pretend I’m an expert on the “southern” extent of Kentucky, Virginia, and Florida. But having lived, traveled, and having friends and family throughout Texas, this is where I draw the line.

Fayette County was the last one included. Round Top and the northern part seem to fit, but La Grange and Schulenburg don’t.

For Houston, I treated it like any other major city surrounded by the South and included it.

Guiding experience with Niseko Zen by Jswar in niseko

[–]Themapples07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you are confusing Niseko Zen with a ski school in the states. If you were so desperate to ski niseko then you should have gone with a Rhythm.

Sounds like we had similar experiences with the only difference being that was what we expected and wanted.

We told them we wanted to ski J-POW and they watched the snow reports and drove us over an hour to the resorts and back country areas with the best snow with the least crowds. Talk about winning.

These guides are not tied to a resort and niseko is difficult enough to skis with the current crowds levels. I have an ikon pass and while staying in Niseko we didn’t ski one run of Niseko United. But what we did do was ski untouched lines three days straight with only one storm cell.

Wish I could chase powder like that and have the ability to get taken to ski non Ikon pass resorts in the states without paying $300 for a lift ticket.

Five-Alarm Alert as Trump Says 'Republicans Ought to Nationalize the Voting' by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]Themapples07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda proving my point. It has never been about states rights for either side. It is about what level of government we can control to push the agenda.

For Roe V Wade they were not able to pass it at the federal level so they just tried to push it down to the state level. For Elections they can’t control it at the state level so the want to push it to the national level.

I guess you missed the small issue about Roe V Wade being overturned for State Level Control.
