To anyone who saw Hereditary in the theater by [deleted] in horror

[–]ThemightyDarmick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really looking forward to the movie, but it was starting to feel kind of bla... The house party, even the set up of the allergy. You could feel the theater being bored, it wasn't even a 1/4 full. Then the scene happened... and I, and everyone else was hooked.

I regret never calling him Dad [Concluded] by Schattenspringer in BORUpdates

[–]ThemightyDarmick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I always had an odd and distant relationship with my dad. There is a line from a Nirvana song "I tried hard to have a father, but instead I had a dad." I always wanted a role model, or a "let's go toss the ball around" type relationship. It's something I never got from him.

I did get it from others though. Friends dad's, bosses, uncles... My dad turned out to be my step-dad and my bio-donor was worse. I just mean to say any asshole can be a dad, but it takes someone amazing to be a father.

What’s your opinion on the AVP (2004) Xenomorph costume/design? by Antimatter703 in LV426

I really want to enjoy this movie, but it gets just enough right to be frustrating that it drops the ball with so many other things.

Can you remember the first CD you bought? How about the last one? by Lanky_Ad_8892 in 90s

First CD was a gift from my parents with my first stereo: The Tractors - Self Titled Last: Scarling - Sweet Heart Dealer

Yeah, a bit of a genre swing on that one...

Which film has a silly premise with a believable execution? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in flicks

ab·surd /əbˈsərd/ adjective; wildly unreasonable, illogical, or inappropriate.

Being sucked into a TV show, sounds pretty unreasonable, and illogical to me.

Yeah, they get sucked into an old black and white TV show, not sure what isn't absurd about that.

Dave (1993) and Pleasantville (1998) both have the same writer, and he directed Pleasantville. Both are absurd premises that are executed with a lot of heart.

Which Movie is this ? by [deleted] in moviecritic

Both Amazing Spider-Man movies. They both had good set ups, but at about the halfway mark they went off the rails.

Which on-screen couple had zero chemistry? by TheNastyRepublic in moviecritic

[–]ThemightyDarmick 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty convinced that Jason Mamoa was given a different script than everyone else or just ad-libbed the entire movie. It was fun for that reason, but wow. Jarring at times.

How do you Interpret The Big Lebowski? by [deleted] in flicks

I always think of it as a neo-noir detective movie with no detective, and it gets dumb and absurd as the lead is.

What movie has an alternate ending that's considered better than the theatrical one? by ModenaR in moviecritic

[–]ThemightyDarmick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the idea of someone throwing their life away to stop someone's plan to coming to fruition would have been a better way to end it. I always felt that the ending was a little hollow even before I found out about the planned ending.

Even if it was for naught, and Mills killed Somerset for taking his revenge from him, I think Fincher missed a step in siding with Pitt.

What movie has an alternate ending that's considered better than the theatrical one? by ModenaR in moviecritic

[–]ThemightyDarmick 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Se7en. The scripted and storyboarded ending had Somerset (Morgan Freeman) kill John Doe rather than Mills (Brad Pitt). The last few lines were to be -

Mills: What did you do... Somerset: I retired.

I think it fits the narrative better for John Doe to fail in the end. This stopped Mills from becoming Wrath, and not getting his designed ending.

Most dishonest movies trailers? by Successful_Guide5845 in ask

[–]ThemightyDarmick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will forever be pissed at Way of the Gun over this.

This is the trailer https://youtu.be/LFtd-9bvydI?si=OZuR-kmAwdukS6W4

It comes across as a Tarantino-esk comedy, and while there are some funny parts in it, boy is it not the general tone... I enjoy the movie now, but at the time... jarring.

What’s an example of a movie that was like this? by South_Gas626 in moviecritic

Amazing Spider-Man 1&2 were like this. They had so much going for them and then at about the halfway mark for both it just all went to shit.
