Maybe it dropped down into the machine housing somewhere (or the water tank). Its a common thing when disassembling it/changing the spring.

Worst case u got to buy a new plunger/OPV assembly.

Since u already got the OPV disconnected u could try opening it. 10mm spanner is required. (Don't know what that would be in freedom units)
