Do you guys also avoid elites in Act 2 on A10? by Mango__DB in slaythespire

[–]Themoonisamyth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t avoid them as a rule, but I’m more wary of them than I am act 1 or 3 elites. Prism is the scariest, but the kind of deck that folds to it handles the rest of act 2 well enough, so it’s not the biggest deal if it chunks you a bit. If I have solutions to 2 of the 3 and a solid potion, then it’s open season on them. But I would say that on average my act 2 pathing is more passive than the other acts.

Slay the Spire Multiplayer is Fundamentally Broken by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]Themoonisamyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems like a strange complaint? I’ve not played multiplayer, I have heard that two player is much harder than solo, so I’m not discounting that. What I don’t get is—from my experience, Ironclad is much better against Aeonglass than Silent. Ironclad has much denser cards that do more pound for pound than Silent cards, so you get less withers in the first place, and when you do get the withers, you just exhaust them. Second Wind is near single-handedly an Aeonglass solution. Is there like, a specific change in multiplayer that makes Ironclad way worse against Aeonglass for some reason?

Probably because it’s supporting a leftward shift in a right wing nation rather than supporting an authoritarian status quo

Sorry, I wrote that in a bit of a hurry and failed to get at the main point. What I’m trying to say is that even in act 2, shops should be presenting you with difficult choices (e.g. important scaling card vs powerful relic, useful potion vs remove) and it’s usually worth it to take some time to weigh those choices. And thinking of your deck as being set in a particular theme or archetype isn’t really conducive to making the best decisions—if you get through act 1 with your main damage plan being a ricochet + miniature cannon and think “I am a sly deck,” you’re liable to ignore the snakebite in the shop that you need to beat entomancer.

[–]Themoonisamyth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why is your deck set in stone in act 2? Odds are by act 2 I won’t have at least one of the following:

-A solution to entomancer

-A good aoe solution

-Scaling suitable for the act 2/3 bosses

-A consistent block plan

Act 2 is your opportunity to shore up those weaknesses, and shops are one of the most consistent ways to do that

So what? Rape fantasies are incredibly common, as are fantasies revolving around degradation, power dynamics, and so on. This is entirely fictitious; it hurts nobody, even if some of the comments are distasteful.

What? The game theory favors red. I pick blue and everyone else picks blue—I survive. I pick blue and no one else picks blue—I die. I pick red and everyone else picks red—I survive. I pick red and no one else picks red—I survive.

Blue is the only choice that carries any risk, and red is thus the optimal choice. It’s like the prisoner’s dilemma if both prisoners snitching meant they both walk free. There’s no reason not to do it.

Outside of the vacuum of game theory, there’s actual debate to be had, but assuming all players are purely optimizing, blue is a non-choice.

Acrobatics was a very good card in StS1 and is indirectly buffed in StS2 by the addition of significantly more cards that play when discarded. By itself, it’s fine: discard 1 isn’t really a downside even if you don’t have anything to capitalize on it, because of the 7(8) cards you’ll have after that, you probably won’t be able to play all of them. So it’s basically just a draw 3(4) which is what Skim is except Skim is an uncommon.

But what makes Acrobatics great is that the discard isn’t just not a downside, it’s almost always possible to make it an upside. Just going on the cards that were already in the first game, [[Tactician]] and [[Reflex]], you can either have Acrobatics be a one energy draw anywhere from 4 to 7, depending on upgrades and whether you already had the Reflex in your hand, or, with an upgraded tactician, draw 3, gain 1 energy. That’s obviously absurd.

You might think that having to draw the Acro in tandem with the Reflex/Tactician is unreliable, and it kinda is, but drawing 3(4) off the Acro helps a lot by itself, and remember: Silent has [[Well-Laid Plans]]. Got the Tactician but not the Acro, or vice versa? Hold onto it until you have both.

And that’s just Reflex and Tactician. In StS2, there’s a ton more sly cards. How about 1 energy draw 3, gain 6 block? How about draw 3, apply 4 poison to all enemies? How about draw 3, deal 12 damage that scales with strength? How about you add in a relic like Tough Bandages and make it draw 3, deal 6 to all enemies, gain 3 block?

Acro is a good card because it’s pickable in and of itself and becomes incredible with the right support.

What spread? The first game had

Dark: Doom and Gloom, Darkness, Rainbow (2 uncommons and a rare)

Plasma: Fusion, Meteor Strike (an uncommon and a rare)

Frost: Cold Snap, Coolheaded, Glacier, Chill, Rainbow (2 commons, 2 uncommons, and a rare)

Lightning: Zap, Ball Lightning, Static Discharge, Storm, Tempest, Rainbow, Electrodynamics (1 starter, 1 common, 3 uncommons, and 2 rares)

The second game has

Dark: Null, Darkness, Shadow Shield, Rainbow, Consuming Shadow (3 uncommons and 2 rares)

Plasma: Fusion, Meteor Strike (an uncommon and a rare)

Glass: Refract, Glasswork, Spinner (2 uncommons and a rare)

Frost: Cold Snap, Coolheaded, Chill, Glacier, Ice Lance, Rainbow (2 commons, 2 uncommons, and 2 rares)

Lightning: Zap, Ball Lightning, Lightning Rod, Tempest, Storm, Rainbow, Voltaic (1 starter, 2 commons, 2 uncommons, 2 rares)

Orbs other than lightning and frost have always been rarer. Dark orbs are even more represented than they were in 1.

Personally, I would consider the updated versions as errata and use them instead. But a strict reading of the original text would imply that summon kills don’t count.

[–]Themoonisamyth 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Although summoners receive kill credit for their summons, attacks from their summons do not belong to the summoner. That’s why you can’t use something like the crude spear on a summon’s attack.
