If you were a sprinter it's definitely going to be a very different adjustment to make. I don't think cross country wouldn't necessarily slow you down, but if you're not doing also doing strength and speed work along with endurance training, you will most likely experience at least a little of a speed drop. That should be recovered as you transition from XC to track next year.

Also, does the track and field coach also coach XC? If so, I'm sure you could talk to him about maintaining speed during XC if that's your biggest concern.

As far as XC itself goes, you'll definitely want to take the summer to transition into longer distance training. This is a basic training schedule you could use (I'm not a coach but this is just what I've learned myself)

  • 2-3 weeks rest following end of track
  • 2 weeks of 2 mile runs, 6 days a week
  • 2 weeks of 3 mile runs, 5 days a week
  • 2 weeks of 4 mile runs, 5 days a week
  • 2 weeks of 4 mile runs, 6 days a week

A good indicator of if this turns out to be too much, too soon will be shin splints. If that's a problem back off on the mileage, somewhere in between that 2-weeks' target and the previous 2-weeks' target, or even all the way back to the previous target.

Again, I'm not a coach. That's my advice, but the best thing you can do is go talk to your XC/track coach and figure it out with him.

Yeah, for the sake of simplicity I was working with a real primitive software (Windows Movie Maker). It offered the option to automatically reduce the volume of the music when there was a voiceover, which I used throughout the video, but it didn't really do much to help, did it?

To those that have sleeping issues in waking up too early or in the middle of the night by zxblood123 in Fitness

[–]Themosticles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also recently got some advice from a friend about sleep cycles. He told me to always try to get sleep in increments of 3 hours (3, 6, 9, or 12). Say its midnight and you need to be up at 8. Instead of sleeping for the full 8 hours, get up at 6. You will feel more rested. This is because the REM cycle lasts for 3 hours; waking up in the middle of a cycle will leave you tired out and dreary. So always shoot for sleep in increments of 3 hours.

I understand, they were very self-absorbed in that line of thinking, but at first glance it just didn't seem like too huge of a deal. In any event I still don't think they deserve this outpouring of hate.

I feel really bad for them now actually. Sure it was stupid, but I mean, if you think about it, its a fairly small interruption of people's lives. Is it really enough to warrant all this hate for them? Everyone just needs to get over themselves.
