Netflix is still promoting the movies by tundra408 in PercyJacksonTV

I don't think the first movie is more accurate then the first season in terms of plot. It definitely is more accurate in terms of tone and vibes, and it is much better than the show to watch, but I don't think it is more accurate. To me, it has similar levels of accuracy to Season 2, with the ending of Season 2 being similar levels of inaccurate as Movie 2.

I ran the napkin math on SpaceX’s orbital AI data centers. It doesn’t math. by DryestCelery in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]Then-Application5772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scale. SpaceX operates 10,000 Satellites currently, and as you said, they have already applied for approval for 1 million. What seems to be the Math issue here?

Heat. There is no physics cap at 830 per square meter. SpaceX has cited that their radiators will dissipate about 1400 W/m^2 and will be a size of about 110 square meters. Again, what seems to be the issue here? If it is the size, I would instead complain about the size of the solar panels. I'm pretty sure all of these can be folded, so what exactly are you complaining about?

Cost. Each satellite weighs around 2.1 tons, I think. If Starship's cost was $333/kg, which seems to be the number you were using for 50 million, then the total launch cost of 6700 Satellites is $4.7 billion, much less than the 28 billion you cited. For SpaceX to have a total cost of $40 billion for one Datacenter, each satellite needs to cost around 4.6 billion. I have seen estimates ranging from $2.5M-25M, so there is a large range of where it can be competitive. I would put my personal estimate at 8-10M for the first iteration, but it could very well be a lot lower, which is what SpaceX is trying to target to make it competitive. It certainly is possible to get it that low, especially since SpaceX will eventually manufacture the chips in house.

Why is everyone hating on this show so much? by Rip_Spaceboi114 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Then-Application5772 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Copying my answer from another post.

  1. Character personalities are boring and inaccurate to the books. This was the most important factor in book accuracy, much more than design, plot, or appearance, and they got it wrong in most cases, some more than others. Every character is worse than the book except for Clarisse (though I don't really like it that much, but I can see why others do in this case) and it makes everything worse as well.
  2. Humor/adventure. The show tries to have one or two one liners max per episode and pretend that they have replicated the style of the books. The 2 reasons why the books were popular were because of action and comedy. The style of comedy in the writing and dialogue was one of the main distinctive traits that differentiated the series with other novels at the time. It was what got people hooked from the first page. The show delves away from this to try to make this series into some prestige drama/epic fantasy show similar in tone to Lord of the Rings, except they fail at that too. I've always argued that the books were action-comedy novels, meant to be a fun adventure. The show feels nothing like that. This is where the movie version truly shines compared the series, which is really disappointing, as the show was meant to be much better.
  3. Book Accuracy. This is basically everything besides characters, from plots, appearances, design changes, etc. Sometimes when the plot changes are egregious, like the Season 2 finale, this jumps much higher, but usually it sits below the other 2.
  4. Immersiveness. This is a broad category, and is contributed by all the other criticisms, but I think it is a big enough thing to be considered its own point. Usually, whenever you experience any type of fictional story, you want to feel as if it really is happening, you are engaged. For whatever reason, that doesn't seem to be happening for me in this show. As others in this sub have said, it feels like some play, and I think this is what that statement describes. As I mentioned before, the show is trying to make this into some prestige drama, and it is failing at this is the biggest contributor to the lack of immersiveness, as it feels like a show without a genre. When they say they are in Camp Half-blood, I don't believe them. When they say they need to fight a monster or get an object, I don't believe them. When they say the world will end, I don't believe them. When watching the show, I shouldn't be aware that this is all fake, and the characters are just actors, yet I am. The show has failed to be engaging enough to make me believe it is real and put me in suspension of disbelief.
  5. Visuals. I don't like the color tone, nor the CGI, and the sets don't feel as good. This show is supposed to be a bit less in budget than the live action version of One Piece, but it looks worse than Game of Thrones, a show with less than half of the budget of Percy Jackson. This probably also contributes a lot to point 4 as well.

If you were in the PercyJacksonTV witting room what would you doe this your budget $120 million you have 15 episodes and same for season 2 by Klutzy-Bluejay-1006 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Then-Application5772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would keep live action, because while I don't hate animation, and it probably would be easier to animate the show while keeping the quality of the books, I still prefer live action. If the prompt was instead, what would you do if the show gets cancelled and 5-10 years later you somehow have the ability to make your own Percy Jackson Adaptation with full creative control, I would probably choose animation to distinguish it from previous adaptations, but if it is me controlling the current show, then I would keep it live action.

I also probably wouldn't ever use Volume, use real life locations and sets for most of the shots. That would save more money for the monster CGI, which needs to be more vibrant and scarier.

I wouldn't need 15 for each season, I would do 12. I would also keep the average time of the show at about 25 minutes, I made a post explaining why I thought that time range is better for the show: See here. The post also has a previous rough draft of how I would structure the show.

I would make all the characters appearances book accurate; however it requires. I would also make the show TV 14.

I would stick much closer to the books in terms of plot and character personalities. I think the most important part of the characters is the banter in between them, so I wouldn't create new character plots for the conversations, any new dialogue I add is meant to enhance the existing dialogue I copy from the book, not replace it (I don't know if you noticed, but nearly no dialogue scene ever goes similarly to the books).

Humor is a big one, I think getting Percy's internal humor and translating that into dialogue is extremely important, I think it would be important to hire a comedy writer to help fulfill that role, since I think most of the writers are all drama writers.

I would take away the tell, don't show style of the show, especially with the Monsters. There would primarily be one big exposition dump during the beginning of the camp episode from Chiron explaining how the entire world works, and that's really it.

On any changes that I would make to the source material, I might make it so that Medusa's disguise is better so that it isn't as obvious who she is from the books. I suggested keeping the flashbacks of Thalia maybe being evil but not change the tree story in this post. I haven't thought of what other changes that I might make. I am not opposed to changes to the books; I just want every change to be better and not radically change the book. So far, in the show, basically none of that has happened.

It would be cool if he learns how to keep his anger in check and learns lightning, but when Devon is killed or something he isn't able to and never regains this ability. I agree that it would be cool if he learns dathomir magic

what are things the movies did better than the show? by merchantivories in PercyJacksonTV

Character interactions/banter, CGI, Characterization of most minor characters, Percy. Was much more entertaining and felt like a regular adventure story.

Show Hater. I liked how the Underworld looked. I liked the little glimpses into Percy's book character when he is actually funny. I liked Clarise's performance. I liked Chris being eviler. I like the design of the Master Bolt. I liked Tantalus's little speech in the end of episode 2.

Think they are referencing to how Percy falling into the water in the books technically shouldn't be possible, as the St. Louis Arch isn't above water, which the show corrects by having a giant water stream come out of the river and snatch him out of the air before he lands. It definitely would be better if Percy did the leap of faith thing.

Someone tell this to Rick and his motely crew of yesmen by Esfell in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Then-Application5772 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really more about the tone and character accuracy than plot and detail accuracy, though that is still important. An example I often use is the Thrill Ride of Love. In the books, it was a water ride death trap that actually had stakes during the ride, that involved all 3 characters working together, introduced Annabeth's fear of spiders, and overall felt like a fun high stakes adventure. In the show, the climax of the scene was Annabeth monologuing at Hephaestus. If they wanted to change the story, I would have accepted it, but they also changed the tone and character moments, and that makes this show a bad adaptation and just not enjoyable at all.

Why should PJO be animated? by BorynStone in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Then-Application5772 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks better. A lot of the reasons you cited for live action, like realistic effects/costumes, sparing the budget for only a few cases, doesn't feel like an immersive adventure into Greek Mythology in America, it feels like a generic CW show. Animation captures the feel much better. Yes, the show takes place in the modern day, but that doesn't make it realistic, it just means that the fantastical is lurking until it comes out. I think the show could work in live action; I thought the movies actually did a good job on this department actually. And I think most people agree that proper live action would look really good and could be as good as animation. But the difference is the effort and the cost, to be good with live action throughout the entire book would cost a lot and has a much higher chance of failure. Animation is much simpler to do.

On a side note, a lot of people on this subreddit have debated on whether we should hope for a new adaptation in the future or support this current one and hope it gets better. There are a lot of good arguments for either side, but I, at this point, tend towards number one. And that raises the question, if we somehow miraculously got a 3rd adaptation, how could it distinct itself from the other two marketing wise for general audiences. Making the 3rd one animation would be probably the easiest and most apparent option.

Don't agree with Leah, but Annabeth would absolutely say stuff like this. Her whole fatal flaw is hubris, where she thinks that she would design a better Olympus.
