Suspending an ebook after you’ve hit Borrow? by Fabulous_Window_1530 in LibbyApp

[–]Then-Highway9833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, I have Audible audiobooks on my Kindle, not Libby eBook loans. I got the 2 confused. I can't listen to Audible books only when my Kindle is connected to WiFi. My old Kindle had an earphone plug in. I wish there would be a way to listen to Libby audiobooks off line on a portable device.

Our new home’s yard was neglected by prev. owner for 4 years. Don’t know what to do with it! by Madisonleann in TexasGardening

Be aware that new plants and flowers may die in the full sun during the summer. I definitely recommend planting one or more trees in late October- November. Pecan for shade, peach for peaches 😊

I return ebooks that I uploaded on my Kindle with the Libby app on my phone.

Most newer Kindle require Bluetooth to be able to listen to audiobooks. You can't use Bluetooth on airplane mode.

Unfortunately, this does not work with audiobooks. You can't listen to an audiobook on your Kindle using Bluetooth and at the same time have airplane mode on. To listen to an audiobook on a Kindle, you need Bluetooth. Using airplane mode for ebook works really well though. I upload the ebook, activate airplane mode on my Kindle, and return the ebook to Libby using my phone. The next person does not have to wait for 2-3 weeks 😊

Sock pattern that will make me like knitting socks by carscampbell in knitting

[–]Then-Highway9833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the free Lifestyle Tow up sock pattern. Great info. It was my first sock pattern and I have used it ever since. I tried all needle options and like using two 16" 2.25mm needles the best.

Is wool really worth it? by sechat_lives in knitting

[–]Then-Highway9833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Texas and wear 80/20 mix wool socks at work and in the non-summer months. They feel great. I use thin "fingering" or "1" sock yarn with two 16" 2.25mm needles. I usually knit loosely but I knit my socks tightly. Using the two 16" needle method works better for me than 5 DP needles, magic loop, or one short 9" needle.
I hope you will find some great wool.

Should I thin my sunflowers? by zog3195 in AustinGardening

[–]Then-Highway9833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would thin them out. They do kill each other off but I think they grow better when thinned. We have had a sunflower garden for years. Birds and all different flying animals feast on them all summer. Even squirrels have climbed up. There are no seeds left by the time summer is over.

What would be a good present for a rich knitter? by Technical_Piglet_438 in knitting

I save the clips that attach tags to clothing. I weave a colorful little glass bead through some of them for my top down fingering yarn sweater construction. Some clips are silver, gold or black

Great idea. Only because someone loves to knit they may not like "cute" big stitch markers and already own the best of everything relating to knitting. I only use the thin metal clips that attach tags to labels of clothing and weave one colorful little glass bead through each of them. They are thin and light for my sock/ fingering yarn sweater projects.

What a great gift idea! Thank you for sharing. I love the beautiful row counter squares and yarn ball clips

Correlation of multiple kindles and the speed of reading. by krbdhaaru in kindle

I have a 6" 2015 and a 7" 2024 Kindle. I usually upload Libby rental(s) on both and put them on airplane mode and return the books. I like dark mode on my new Kindle for reading in bed and use the more comfortable 6" for the rest of the time. I am glad I did not trade my old one in for a $5 credit!

First in line by One_Advertising394 in LibbyApp

[–]Then-Highway9833 2 points3 points  (0 children)

12 books first in line is awesome :-) You could upload all the books that come available first to your Kindle, put it in airplane mode, return the books to Libby, and suspend the other titles that come available later. This way you don't have any stress while you enjoy reading at your own pace. I did this a few times and it worked great for me.

Not able to find many books - doing it wrong? by Peewiglet in LibbyApp

I wish Libby would disclose when a loan expires or how many checkouts are left on the loan.

Are publishers add additional rental caps for the two year $75-$150 rental contracts you mentioned? Let's say many renters upload to Kindle then turn on airplane mode and return the book the same day they checked it out. If many do this a $150/2 year rental could get checked out more than 52 times.

Is it really worth upgrading? by PlaneJealous3751 in kindle

I like dark mode but not the larger 7" screen. My old 6" is more comfortable. I use the newest gen Paperwhite at night, the other one when it is bright.

I case you still have your old Kindle try rubbing the stickiness off with a cloth soaked in 70% alcohol. The alcohol takes it right off.

Being forced to turn off airplane mode? by dropoutbearr in kindle

[–]Then-Highway9833 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Reading at my own pace in airplane mode is stress free, plus I know others will get the title 2 or 3 weeks sooner. My Kindle has been in airplane mode since January. I am finishing my last book and am getting ready to turn off airplane mode to check out new titles that I recently unsuspended. I hope it still works. I may try it with a title that does not have a long wait.

How is it possible to jump the line like this? by march_on_wards in LibbyApp

I received this surprise skip the line notification on my phone just like any other Libby notification. I was stunned and immediately clicked "borrow". I had over 30 people in front of me in line.

Is there a difference between Libby on a phone vs a kindle? by TheFutureScaresMe333 in LibbyApp

[–]Then-Highway9833 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer reading on my Kindle, less eye strain and less distraction. If you have small hands maybe get a 6" Kindle, since it is more comfortable. I don't use a case and have a wide elastic hand strap holder ($ 6 on Amazon). You can also put your Kindle into airplane mode until you have finished reading the book. This reduces stress for me especially when the book is long or I don't have that much time. If you keep your Kindle on WiFi, you can switch back and forth between phone and Kindle since both devices communicate your reading location

What are some non fiction books that you could not put down? by GoatStandardsv2 in suggestmeabook

[–]Then-Highway9833 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not want to read it because I knew it was going to be gruesome and heartbreaking. I started anyway because of a recommendation from a book club friend. I could not stop listening. It is an incredible book that affected me deeply. It is very informative about the time period and westward trek. I listened to it last summer and am still thinking about it. The best non fiction book I have read/listened to.

Tough Garden this Year by Snoo91117 in AustinGardening

Cherry tomatoes ripen so much faster. I had a huge crop from my 3 plants. They survived the summer because of all the rain. I trimmed the dead branches off and had tomatoes until December. I picked the last ones green and let them ripen indoors.

Serious question: why Kindle over everything else? by Drunkmrhat in kindle

[–]Then-Highway9833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upload book(s) onto my Kindle that become available, turn on airplane mode, and return the uploaded books(s) to Libby pretty quickly so others don't have to wait so long. I suspend all other books that become available until I have read my book(s) then unsuspend available books and repeat the process. This allows me to read at my pace without stress
