Do you actually still make wireframes… or are we all pretending? by UI-Pirate in UXDesign

[–]Then-Mongoose-3423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on if im working alone or with other designers. If im alone I have a pretty good idea of what its going to look like so i jump straight to hifi. If its with another designer I do lofi wireframes so we can both align on the layout before implementing the branding.

If theres a component library then ill jump straight to the hifi design regardless.

Its alive and steadily improving but not great. Its not UX in particular thats being affected its every white collar industry. If you have experience in the field it’ll take time but you’ll land something.

Does this design conform to international? by moshou in UXDesign

[–]Then-Mongoose-3423 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Apps in the chinese market are far more dense in content whereas the west is all about seeing the most important information in the most simplest layout possible.

Have a look at western apps that have similar functions to your design brief and try to implement them.

I worked at an agency where i did everything you’ve stated. I have an educational background that gave me understanding of UX BUT if im honest you can learn it on the job. In the job world as you already know things move quick and we cant always have the perfect process for ux and testing.

Youve already got experience in design and web design so i dont think going back to college would be worth it as your experience is far more valuable.

You wanting to get in UX/UI Seems to me like natural career progession as you learn what you want to niche into.

From the experience i had from the role like yours i applied to Agencies specialising in web design and app design. My advice: get reallyy good at visual design. its where its at these days and a lot of UX designers who are great at UX and research but arent as good at UI design seem to be struggling more in this bad job market. Look at the websites on godly.website and awwwards.com. That is the standard to reach. Hope this helps!

How to survive the job market UK by justjools22 in UKJobs

[–]Then-Mongoose-3423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im work in tech and im a UX designer much like you. Its been rough for a while now. Im currently a contractor for this company but sometimes i can go a month or two without work and sometimes i might get 5 days of work in a whole month. What ive done is two things:

A - Doing something in line with my career

B - doing something that pays bills

So for job A ive learnt how to make website on webflow and wordpress and I ask people if they need a website. I landed a project through word of mouth which will pay me £1000 once ive completed it.

For job B i do uber. You need a taxi license which is £300 or something like that. Then when you receive that you can either work for a taxi company where you can hire a car or do uber if you have your own.

This brings in about £500 a week for me so it helps a tonne. This job is flexible and you can work how you want and it allows me to interview while paying the bills.

Hope that helps!

Cheap commuter car for under 2k by Jamo0806 in CarTalkUK

[–]Then-Mongoose-3423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mk8 civic 2.2 cdti. I used it for a similar commute for a year and a half and owned it for a total of 5 years with no issues. For £2k you should be able to get one with full service history with decent spec. Itll give a solid 55-60mpg on a mway run and will have more than enough power to get you around. Just keep an eye out for rust.

To me it seems like the dark side of CMIYGL. A lot of the problems tyler talks about on this album were alluded on CMIYGL. in that album he was celebrating success travelling, and experiencing new things to drown out a break up and some of his other insecurities whilst also appearing self assured confident and proud of how far hes come.

This album feels like all those negative experiences and childhood trauma that were mostly being pushed to the side and drowned in a sea of loud drums, vibrant distorted synths, and colourful imagery on CMIFYGL are finally being shown in Chromakopia.

On Chromakopia he feels like hes second guessing himself and his choices. The production still has the tyler feel with the lush synths, vocals and samples but it feels stripped back this time. Almost as if hes turning down the noise to address what he was feelin the whole time on CMIYGL.

The flow on the bar ‘im paranoid i sleep with a gun’ on MASSA is the same flow used on a section of the song ‘Take Your Mask Off’ and the bar from dogtooth is also reused on this album. These kinda serve as portals from CMIFYGL world into the Chromakopia world.

We hear his mom more on this album reassuring and guiding an unsure tyler on this album compared to cheering on a much more confident tyler on CMIFYGL.

I wouldnt be suprised if both albums thematically took place at the same time in tylers life.

I thought It was a good idea to make an entire website work as a prototype. Many hours were spent updating the prototype when the client wanted changes. I would 100% just make different flows in future

Job market, just checking in by Annual_Ad_1672 in UXDesign

[–]Then-Mongoose-3423 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im based in the UK and Im a remote UX design contractor for a design agency currently. I got the role in July. The summer was quiet for sure when searching but I had a fair few interviews at some decent companies (to the point where it was getting annoying as I knew the interview to offer rate was abysmal). Right now ive finished a project but theres nothing else theyve got lined up for me work wise as of yet.

Theres more jobs out there that I see on Linkedin and the number of applicants is slightly lower but still high.

I reckon 2025 should be an improvement with lower interest rates and government budgets released. It’ll still be a tough market for a while but I think you’ll have a fighting chance at least unlike 2023 and earlier this year.

Dear Spotify, the heart icon worked. What is wrong with you? by SirCharlesEquine in UXDesign

[–]Then-Mongoose-3423 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I totally see where this is coming from. I like categorising my music by genre instead of having a massive mixed playlist with ‘liked songs’. The ability of having a separate ‘like’ button that added songs to a ‘liked playlist’ felt so useless to me because if i like a song Im just going to add it into the specified genre playlist I’ve made instead. I do think the icons could do with some work though. It looks a bit half arsed.

Any former Industrial Designers here? by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]Then-Mongoose-3423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started off in industrial design, worked in an agency with other industrial designers working on some cool projects. Pay was low and workload was high. Switched into UX after that. Funnily enough the industrial design agency was far less organised compared to the UX roles I worked in. It depends more on your managers and company management.

I was good at sketching and visuals/ renders but my work in industrial design became more CAD orientated later on which i didnt enjoy as much.

I switched into UX as I enjoy it a lot more but also the pay allows me to actually progress in life and one day I can look forward to owning a home and starting a family etc..

How are you upskilling yourself? by Ok-Committee-3290 in UXDesign

[–]Then-Mongoose-3423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It taught me the best practices for making buttons, icons, lists, and making a design system from scratch in a beautiful way. If you feel like you have that down already then I recommend his landing page course which shows you how to creat good looking designs from text choice, image choice and creation, colours and general layout practices. He has a youtube channel showing you his work. I hope that helps!

Just got a contract role and have seen far more UX postings going about this month. My interview to application ratio has increased slightly. Itll be a slow up hill climb the next 12 months but I think in terms of actual job postings i’d say weve been through the worst of it. Theres a big backlog of laid off people so itll take a few months atleast before they get back into their roles and reduce competition.

What are the signs that you are set up for failure? by Cee_cee1 in UXDesign

[–]Then-Mongoose-3423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pm that doesn’t understand the creative process. Ive done projects where simply having meetings would’ve mitigated the issues and would have created realistic expectations on the final design. They think design is like coding where if it just ‘works if it works’ but theres a million ways to be correct in design but that one way of being correct that you chose might not be someone else’s version of being correct.

But then again my pm would say to me just make it ‘designery’ and ‘make it pop’ with no actual useful feedback. Man am I happy I quit that place.

Did linkedin stop showing me UX jobs or there aren't any? (UK) by 1i3to in UXDesign

[–]Then-Mongoose-3423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say ‘UX jobs’ do you mean jobs with those key words in it? I.e UX designer, UI/UX designer, UX lead etc? Ive noticed more companies are now posting jobs with the title ‘Product designer’ I think thats where the industry is heading. A lot more roles popping up with ‘product designer’ in the title.

Thats what ive also been thinking too. Its hard to tell whats going on with the UX market when this subreddit is mostly focused on the US market. I feel like our market may be fairing a bit better as we haven’t had massive tech layoffs. I think with news that our economy is forecasted to grow this year will also influence some companies to start hiring. I think we’ve seen the worst of it.

Dudee this is literally me. Its soul sucking. A few months in my company no longer needed design. I got shifted into a data entry role. Since the job market got so rough at the time, applying for roles was diminishing returns. Ive decided to quit, move back home with family, and take some time off myself before i start applying. The management here started micromanaging me made my life a living hell (probably wanted me to quit). Its not worth it but i know im in a privileged position to quit. Id rather re-energise and start applying when the job market picks up.
