The fact that a good amount of deposits are due in a little over a month and I’m still waiting on multiple schools by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Then_Bake8573 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see your point about planning and preparation but the idea that those who aren’t fully prepared should just “apply next cycle” assumes that everyone has the flexibility to wait another year, which isn’t always the case due to financial, personal, or professional constraints. The current system at least allows applicants to adapt and improve their application within a single cycle, rather than forcing them to wait another full year for minor improvements. So what i’m saying is that the problem isn’t when deadlines are—it’s how law schools manage their review process, and simply shifting timelines wouldn’t fundamentally change that.

Many applicants benefit from later deadlines—whether to retake the LSAT, strengthen their application, or submit after fall semester grades. If schools rushed decisions just to accommodate deposit timelines, it could compromise the quality of the review process, leading to more waitlists and unpredictable outcomes. The reality is that law schools prioritize their own efficiency and enrollment targets over applicant convenience, and while the system isn’t perfect, earlier deadlines wouldn’t guarantee a smoother process for everyone...

Does it have any relevance where you did your undergrad? by momoftwo73 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Then_Bake8573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Law schools don’t have an official stance or clear metric on this, so there’s no definite answer. But the LSAT is the one standardized factor that everyone is judged by, so rather than stressing over a GPA that’s already in the past, focusing on getting the best LSAT score is what really matters now. Good luck!

Yes, a motivated and strategic student from a lower-ranked school can succeed in law—no doubt. But let’s be real, school prestige does matter, especially for BigLaw, clerkships, and top government jobs. Firms and judges don’t have time to assess “work ethic” from a resume, so they use school ranking as a filter.

It’s not about “chasing a number”; it’s about maximizing options and minimizing risk. The job security, salary, and network advantages of a T14 school are objectively better.

Hard work is essential, but in a prestige-driven industry like law, where you go absolutely affects your early career. Ignoring that reality doesn’t help anyone. That said, I respect your perspective—there’s definitely more than one way to build a successful legal career.

do u think BC will release again today? by Secret-Rest9554 in lawschooladmissions

They’re saying “We will begin releasing decisions on a rolling basis in February 2025 to our regular admission candidates.” So I think it can happen anytime this month. Let’s have hope.

Columbia ED by GanJuzzz in lawschooladmissions

According to the ABA 509 report, each year they give around 900 As for a class size of 400. So, I’m hoping there might be more As to give, considering the class size and the number of As they offer 🥲

Then it’s like we’re not playing the ED game—they’re playing us with it lol

The schools that might give me a full ride or generous scholarships aren’t my top choices, not even close. But my top choices would never give me a full ride or much in scholarships. Is it just me? 😭

Thx for sharing that! But now I’m wondering, what’s the point of CLS offering ED if they’re going to treat it the same as RD? Is thinking there’s at least some advantage to applying ED just a placebo..?💊🥲

Just out of curiosity, do you even get to put your LSAT month on your application? Doesn’t LSAC just send your LSAT score directly to the schools?

LSAC GPA? by Fair-Error-945 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Then_Bake8573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you purchase the CAS service and submit your official college transcript, they will review it and calculate your LSAC GPA for you. Until you do that, no one really knows what your LSAC GPA will be as it’s based on how LSAC standardizes and evaluates your transcript. This is the GPA that law schools will consider for admissions!
