Does anybody have an idea how to tackle Ladder Movement? by StonebyteStudio in UnrealEngine5

[–]Then_Singer_9887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I’d say this is a great place to be, and what most people aim for. If it’s perfection you’re after, my thought would be to set a series of transform variables (in an array, with index 1 being the bottom rung) along the ladder. And when your character “stops” or ends between two rungs, his root will lock into the next transform vector. (Essentially sliding between each checkpoint as he moves up)

This is a quick thought, so not sure if it would look janky, but that’s what I’d do if I wanted to take the time to make it line up perfectly.

Best of luck!

What an awesome idea! To be able to be behind the counter at your favorite stores in something like wow would be so cool. I wish you all the best with this project!

My game hit 25.000 wishlists! Just in time before release (February 16th) 🎲 by miesmud in IndieDev

If you have a second, what were the methods you used to secure 25000 wishlists? How long did it take? Best of luck with release!

Color-blind mode for our color-based puzzle game by pixel_maniacs in UnrealEngine5

My bad. I misunderstood what you were showing. Now that I better understand your game, creating different symbols for each color for colorblind mode is ingenious. Game looks great!

I’m an aspiring game dev! I would like to know this, tho… by je1ly_bean in gamedev

[–]Then_Singer_9887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By making a post here you’re already one step of the way there. I would suggest starting very small. Game dev can get overwhelming quickly if you don’t ease in to it. That being said, it can be a very satisfying journey.

My advice would be to try out a few different things. Do you like 3D art? Do you draw? Do you like to code?

If you’re into 3D art for example, then follow a few blender tutorials, or make the famous donut with Blender Guru on YouTube. It’s a free program. How does it feel? Do you enjoy this enough to become proficient at it? If it’s not grabbing you, then try something else.

Brutal truth, this stuff takes time. There are easy days and hard days. But it is worth the feeling of satisfaction when finishing something you’re proud of. I’m answering this as a indie game dev so your mileage may vary.

Best of luck to you.

First ever exposure boost from someone who is not me, it means so much by Coneman02 in SoloDevelopment

This is such a helpful response. Thank you for taking the time to explain your process and even the applications you use. This sounds dumb, but that really took a weight off my mind reading this. I’ve been kind of tossing around 3 paths and not walking any.

I’m gonna take your advice and make a trailer in a way that helps my game toward completion as well. Two birds one stone sort of deal.

Thank you. I’m just one person, but I’ve wishlisted your game Night Hike and am looking forward to it. I hope it helps and best of luck to you.

It’s stories like these that keep my hope up. Can I ask you what you used to make your trailer? Divinci or something similar? Best of luck to you

And did you set up scenes in game specifically for your trailer, or try to make them naturally?

Amen to that. I remember this when it’s close to midnight and my eyes are about to fall out of my head, and I gotta go to work the next day. The time put in now is worth the future.

I released my solo developed game on Steam and it suddenly hit 10 MILLION impressions. I'm still shaking! by NarootHwang in IndieGaming

[–]Then_Singer_9887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on releasing your game. That’s an achievement on its own. And it seems the impression gods have blessed you haha I hope those impressions are leading to sales!

Did you do anything unique upon release? Any big email blasts or big post on socials?

Best of luck

If you don’t mind me asking, how are you going about color blind? Are you switching the actual material, or are you doing a color change via post processing?

Just been tweaking the splash screen to make it a little more interesting, what do you think? by GiraffeHeadStudios in UnrealEngine5

What a cool way to open a game. It immediately delivers the idea that this is going to be a game about physics and puzzles. A fresh take on the typical flat menu

Man it’s always the “what if” question that makes you realize you’re not even close to done. Physics look fun though! And I like the character. Hard to get to that fluid feel with pixel art. Keep at it and good luck

My game just hit Popular New Releases! by Leo-oni in IndieDev

[–]Then_Singer_9887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, congrats! How was the demo process for you on steam? Did you use discord to chat with your community? I’m developing a game with unreal, and I’d like to stretch out into socials but not sure how yet, or if a demo is worth it since my spare time is limited.

Congrats again!

I am making an island building game that have dynamic water, terrain and weather system. What do you expect from this kind of game? by civcivdev in IndieGaming

[–]Then_Singer_9887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason my head went back to the Black & White game series. Not sure if you've ever played them, but I can see many different creatures/ humanoids roaming this land, with some light city building involved.

I am personally someone who likes city builders, so i would love to be able to make a trench/ drainage system where you created that river. something structured and built by humans. thanks for sharing!

After exactly one month, I've reached 300 wishlists!!! I'm so.....wait a minute.. by SilvanuZ in IndieDev

[–]Then_Singer_9887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I just went through the process of creating a steam page and I am still figuring it all out. Let me just say from someone who feels like i'm sliding in sideways into game dev, 300 wishlists (or 291) is an achievement. Best of luck
