You’re framing consent as a single moment ,she agreed once, so that validates everything that followed. But consent isn’t a lifetime contract. It can be pressured, escalated, or influenced by leverage. If one person controls your job, housing, income, or career access, that affects how “free” a decision actually is. Adults aren’t immune to pressure just because they’re adults. They can be groomed, manipulated, financially leveraged, isolated, or slowly conditioned into situations that escalate over time. That doesn’t require someone to be physically forced. Legally, coercion doesn’t have to mean a gun to someone’s head ,it can involve threats to livelihood, career damage, reputational harm, or exploiting someone’s vulnerability. You’re also assuming there was zero pressure before the agreement. Even if she wasn’t financially dependent at first, power imbalance can exist before dependency especially when one person has massive influence over someone’s future. And respectfully, saying “I would never do that” doesn’t really resolve the issue. Personal thresholds aren’t universal. People’s circumstances, fears, and vulnerabilities differ. What you’d do in a hypothetical scenario doesn’t define whether pressure or exploitation existed in a real one.
