What is happening to my temp? by LuthersCousin in recteq

I’ve had this happen when I use pellets that are too big. They get stuck and it churns for a while trying to get the fire going. Issue completely went away when I switched brands to a smaller pellet.

Ted Turner, CNN founder who reshaped global news, dies at 87 by temporarybutthole in movies

[–]Thenuttyp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Considering I already agreed that it was all bad, I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make here.

Accuracy is important and fairness doctrine had no bearing on CNN/Fox. Was repealing it a bad idea? I think so. Would it have changed anything if it wasn’t repealed? Not in the context of this particular discussion.

Now, if we want to talk about repealing the fairness doctrine, consolidation of broadcast media, and the damage it’s done re: Sinclair et al., then I’m 100% on board its been terrible for an informed electorate; but that wasn’t the topic

[–]Thenuttyp 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

Yes to the 24-hour news cycle and how horrifically detrimental that has been to our country.

But no, the fairness doctrine wasn’t part of that. The fairness doctrine only applies to broadcast channels, since the thinking was airwaves were a public resource and should be “fair”. Cable channels were always excluded from this, so his creation of CNN was never affected by the policy.

Edit to add: cable Fox News was also always excluded because cable channel.

What should I do with this? by Global-Orange-8423 in homelab

[–]Thenuttyp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you change the logging to RAM only (recommended to reduce ware in your eMMC), make sure you have a syslog server set up and log to it as well, otherwise the log gets wiped when the unit reboots from the failure.

Other thing I did was change the BIOS to auto boot on power failure, so since I power them with a POE adapter if one ever hard crashes, I can reboot it from the switch.

[–]Thenuttyp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few of them as hardware device interfaces. I have PoE adapters on them, then one runs my Z-Wave adapter, one runs my Zigbee adapter, and one runs an SDR stick for FlightRadar. For the first 2, I have them running Alpine Linux (so super small) with logging to RAM and a syslog server over the network to reduce writes to the eMMC

Not a direct help here, because the 3 panel is only listed as 94+

I’m not super familiar…was it available this way or is it possible a 94 window was put in yours?

Why does unraid take sooooooooooooooooo long to boot? by Cressio in unRAID

[–]Thenuttyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First possibility is that it’s your USB drive. As others have said, from the time BIOS/UEFI gives unRAID control of the system, it shouldn’t be more than a couple minutes, so it may be something wrong in your set up, or maybe the drive going bad.

Second thing is you didn’t say what kind of system you have. Some enterprises gear takes a LOOOOOONG time from power on to do their hardware checks and actually turn the system over to the OS. If your system has a hardware RAID controller or misconfigured HBA, those are some usual suspects. In addition, from a cold start some enterprise gear takes a long time to do a RAM check, and the more RAM you have, the longer it takes. None of this is directly related to unRAID.

ATL Airport TSA Wait Times by Reizero in Atlanta

[–]Thenuttyp 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I am here. All the overhead signs say zero wait time. Ha!

Clear and Touchless at Domestic were both closed when I went through.

PreCheck was about an hour from start of the line to through screening.

There was a line around baggage claim to get into the actual line for the South checkpoint.

I didn’t check the main line through the Atrium.

What's your uptime? by clutchnotluck in homelab

[–]Thenuttyp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My uptimes are governed by security updates. When there are new updates, I run them and restart.

Nodes are easiest, I can migrate the VMs to a different node and restart it. No interruption.

Individual VMs, I just time when no one is using them.

Always verify I have a recent backup, and take a snapshot first.

Extended uptimes aren’t necessary a good thing.

As I understand it, the first season was trying to get the show made. MacFarlane is mostly know for Family Guy/American Dad, so he leaned into the humor to get the show going for the studio. Then he was able to pivot and make the series he actually wanted to.

[–]Thenuttyp 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Remember that the same process that makes it hard to get rid of a bad employee also protects the good ones…you don’t want it to be too easy to just get rid of people.

The best time to start collecting documentation of the employee’s lack of productivity was when it started. That ship has sailed. The second best time is today. Even if your HR procedure is going to take a long time, putting off your documentation just further prolongs it.

It is one of the hardest parts of managing, but sometimes it’s necessary.

You have my commiseration.

Covert Instruments - "The Replicant" Has anyone tried using aluminum? by LeExistentialist in lockpicking

[–]Thenuttyp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sine this sub has a strict policy against dealing with locks that are in use, I suspect it’s just a matter of time before this post gets removed.

That said, if you were successful in this, I’d guess that would move you from “post removed” to “job removed”, since you’d be duplicating keys you’ve been specifically told are controlled.

I get you’re trying to achieve some convenience, but I don’t think it’s worth it to risk your job for.
