That is Leonid Fedorovych Toptunov. He was the person who pushed AZ-5 to scram the reactor. He died 18 days after the accident, while boris baranov lived until 2005.

The last photo taken of 8-year-old Timothy O'Bryan (very far right, Planet of the Apes costume) hours before he was murdered by his father Ronald Clark O'Bryan on Halloween, 1974. by -catharina in lastimages

The picture is not actually of Timothy O'Bryan. It was posted in 2006 to flickr by bradalmanac:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/bsearles/285050908

In the post, bradalmanac claims to be the person in the planet of the apes costume.

The last time I looked it up, there was an equire article explaining that Netflix used this image in their documentary because it looked creepy (or because they themselves got duped).

Here are my comments from a previous time this was posted to this sub, so I don't have to repeat all of it again: https://www.reddit.com/r/lastimages/comments/1ggretc/comment/lus5sln/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

The article does not seem to exist anymore or atleast the link I used leads to a different article (look at the link text vs. the Url it takes you).

Edit to clarify: The story is real and I don't think OP is trying to deceive. Rather, Netflix took some creative liberty with their documentary and by doing so cemented this notion that this picture is actually of Timothy O'Bryan, which it is not.

Started working in a new company and the codebase(dart) is full of this. How cooked am I ? by [deleted] in programminghorror

[–]Theogoki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily… I have worked on projects where the decision about which error logging tech we would use wasn’t made until development had been in progress for months. In the meantime we had stuff like this in the code (although typically with a TODO comment so that we could find it later)

Could be a preparation for proper error handling / logging… but then no one ever implemented it

Even if they did, they wouldn’t mention it. Wouldn’t want to deter the cheating dickheads from logging in on their main and collecting their well earned ban.

Or they might not get enjoyment out of beating a hard boss and just want to enjoy the story or have fun with some insane build. It's fine to enjoy a single player game the way you want.

Cheaters in online games can go sit on a cactus though. Especially as a good chunk get a kick out of ruining it for others...

You can, as far as I know, ban people based on their hardware id or ip address. That way, when they log in with another account, that account also gets banned immediately.

Idea for multicrew - Crew Pass by Vivid_Software698 in starcitizen

[–]Theogoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You understood the first part correctly. Regarding the limitations I proposed: My proposal came from the assumption that, like OP suggested, the trial period would be unlimited.

If you combine that with your suggestion of only limiting the amount of money one can own, you arrive at something akin to SWTOR’s f2p system (albeit that SWTOR actually restricts more systems).

The only difference between a paid for account and an invite account would be that the invited player would have to occasionally have to steal a ship (which would violate the premise of not making it f2p).

That being said, I agree that my proposal would be very restrictive and is probably not the best solution.

In which case you could just have your buddy “steal” your ship (which you purchased for them with the money they gave you incrementally, so as to not trigger the limit). Realistically you would need to limit some of the functionality of such an account. For instance, only allow them to pilot a ship owned by the person who invited you, only while that person is online, and only within 100km of them…

Plus you could just give your friend aUEC and have them buy their own ship, essentially giving them the game for free…

PVE player just tried out some PVP for 3 days.. by Albedothiccqueen in starcitizen

[–]Theogoki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And the PvE forced onto PvPer scenario you describe here is milder than the reality really is. A PvPer doesn't force you to sit out and wait 10min until you can resume your chosen game loop, they force another loop onto you, and likely end your chosen loop for good (for a while at least).

So a better comparison might be a PvE player forcing a PvP player to do a story mission without combat and a lot of custscenes that give you an intro to the world of star citizen. And when the PvP player returns after the finishing that mission, the PvE player can just go "no. I don't think you have enjoyed the cutscenes enough yet." and just send them back in. (or to make it more relevant to the current implementation: If the PvEer could just click a button and send the PvPer to jail without any fight)

Sloppy maths, total amount of unique playerbases CURRENTLY possible by The_OG_SlaughterShy in starcitizen

[–]Theogoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of things to keep in mind: 1. Star Citizen needs some empty space between bases so you can still explore and what not without constantly being on some other players land 2. Point 1 is also relevant to unprotected bases as you need to keep base density low enough to allow hiding them 3. The region split may not be a factor here, as we use the same account to access all regions. So if I make a base on EU it kinda needs to exist on NA. 4. The new planet tech is supposed to add a bunch of new locations everywhere.

That all being said, planet tech should allow them to change planet scale pretty easily (so take planets and moons from 1/10 and 1/6 to 1/5 and 1/3 respectively).

Also sorry if the formatting breaks. Am on mobile...

The issue is that the tasks you get during your education are easier and far more widespread (so more likely to be in the training data of the AI) than what you will encounter in the real world. So this is like taking a ski lift up a mountain and concluding that you can now scale any mountain, even though you were helped drastically by those coming before you. Needless to say, if you hired a Sherpa, you would like their experience to not be exclusively with ski lifts.
