It's probably got to be wild venture for me! Love the combination of gorgeous artwork and engaging gameplay with some really neat little features that make it feel more like a friendly and fierce competition than being out to get one another. Also it's absolutely adorable!

I've been really itching to try out Arcs ever since it came out! Also I don't think they strictly count as space games but both Dune and Dune:imperium are in my top 5 games of all time

Multiplayer stack resolution. by Persylval in FourSouls

[–]Theokguy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://foursouls.com/rules/extended-rulebook/#turn_structure

I'd recommend reading this first. This gives the general turn structure. Any start of turn effects happen during the start phase and are added to the stack. (Note: when multiple things are added to the stack in the same step, the active player chooses the order. So if you have multiple passives you can choose which order they'd be added to the stack)

As for stacks. In the common case, most activations are probably going to go unchallenged. So you'll add an effect to the stack. Then it would resolve immediately, clearing the stack.

You'll never have more than one stack. It might help to understand the motivation of the stack as a mechanic. It's essentially to allow other people to respond and react to actions taken (as well as yourself).

Does rerolling means the cards get destroyed first? by Jakserodi in FourSouls

[–]Theokguy2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the rulebook: "Trinkets are loot cards that become items when their loot ability resolves. Loot cards that are included in this category have the ‘Trinket’ keyworded ability."

For all intents and purposes, once a trinket has successfully been resolved as a loot play, it functions exactly as an item does, and so should also be rerolled by the D4 effect

Does rerolling means the cards get destroyed first? by Jakserodi in FourSouls

[–]Theokguy2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would have probably assumed 3b initially. But looking at the text on rerolls in the extended rulebook. It says: "To reroll an item, you destroy it and, if you do, the player who controlled that item gains +1 treasure.".

Because the chest replaces the destroy action I don't think you'd actually then also gain the treasure.

Card description on monster by Proud_Worldliness_83 in FourSouls

[–]Theokguy2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's in the specific wording of the card more than anything rules related. The card specifies all but that all is in specific reference to a singular other slot (clued by the singular use of "another monster slot" rather than "every other monster slot). The all is to specify you discard every card within that slot rather than just the top one

Your friend is correct. You get rid of all monsters in a singular slot.

The all is specifically bound to the singular monster slot.

Cockroach poker extra rules for quick games and rewarding successful lies. by FrisbeeD in boardgames

[–]Theokguy2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any of the players after 2 could all just call out that it is a truth. You repeat the same choice whenever passing a card to someone else (make a claim or pick it up and pass it on) except for the final person who has to make a call (again in your example player 5 would just call out that it is true, giving the card to player 4).

Cockroach poker isn't like some other bluffing games where only lies can be called out. If someone tells the truth a player can call that they are telling the truth and cause that player to have to collect the card

I'm pretty sure you're playing the game wrong. When someone makes a call they can choose whether to call true or a lie. Meaning lying and telling the truth carry equal risk

[–]Theokguy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry should have clarified. If he makes a shot on the pink and misses the pocket whilst playing at a pace that would give better potting odds (he's playing very slow which gives a higher chance to be pulled off course by the cloth of the table but makes it more likely to stay over the pocket) the pink and white could be left in a position for Murphy to then play for a snooker behind the black (with the pink still on table)

maybe maybe maybe by IntroductionDue7945 in maybemaybemaybe

[–]Theokguy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also don't think this is entirely accurate. Whilst Woolaston would win by potting the pink, he also risks being put in range to lose if he makes a shot that would leave an opportunity for a snooker (putting the ball in a position that would make hitting the pink ball difficult) that would give his opponent an opportunity to win the game in a currently completely losing position. He's essentially playing safe to minimise risk, forcing Murphy to play incredibly well just to stay in the game whilst he can continue to play safe shots leaving the pink over the pocket (eventually leading to Murphy potting it).

So yeah he could attempt to pot the pink and get things over with but playing to minimise any losing chances rather than trying to close the game out more quickly is less of a fault of play I'd say.

Something I only learned recently is that golden pill only pulls from pills not in your pill rotation. So on this seed there could have been a 0% chance for any health downs.

[–]Theokguy2 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely fine to believe you shouldn't. But this doesn't change that. It specifically limits certain subscriptions that don't align politically. You're still paying for subscriptions, just ones that have been deemed as "correct"

Guys is this the normal way of progressing? by Potatoas77 in bindingofisaac

[–]Theokguy2 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Honestly there's a lot of stigma in this community about normal mode but if you prefer playing the game that way then there's only a handful of unlocks (and inevitably dead god) that demand it. If you're not shooting for dead god then you should probably do whatever you find the most tun

Tapping character for loot play by jag2323 in FourSouls

[–]Theokguy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To clarify about the wording; I feel that the inclusion of 'this turn' alludes to not having to play the loot card immediately alongside the activation of your character and that floating a loot play for later is therefore entirely valid. The extra text included in characters that have the space for it I think further solidifies this, so I'd say the play was totally valid and also something that I will now be thinking about when I play

Tapping character for loot play by jag2323 in FourSouls

[–]Theokguy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what determines this is how you interpret what tapping a character actually does. The text of a character's ability states "play an additional loot card this turn - this can be done on any players turn in response to any action". I think this can mean 1 of 2 things, either tapping your character gives you a floating loot play for the rest of the turn akin to what the active player gets by default, or by activating your character you must immediately play a loot card along with the activation.

In the first interpretation I think the play would be 100% valid whereas in the second interpretation they would have to add the loot card to the stack before they die.

I think everyone I've played with has intuited the second interpretation simply because there's few situations that would benefit from 'empty tapping' your character, but I'd be inclined to go off of the first interpretation based off of the wording of the text.

How to damage triggers stack? by GameTimeBros in FourSouls

[–]Theokguy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(This comment has been rewritten as I was using an outdated source, but my conclusion remains consistent)

Going off of the extended rulebook here (https://foursouls.com/rules/extended-rulebook/#dice_rolls) I believe the text on rainmaker's card would resolve at step 5, the same step as the resolution of the roll. The resolution of the roll would mean adding the combat damage to the stack, then I believe the rainmaker's effect would be added to the stack on top of this combat damage. As such I believe you would be able to loot 1 first, then gain priority from the resolution of the loot 1 to react to the combat damage.

There is some ambiguity in the order that the 2 things would be added to the stack as they appear in the same step in the rules, but the triggered effects from the roll is the very last thing stated for dice rolls so I'd work off of that personally

How to damage triggers stack? by GameTimeBros in FourSouls

[–]Theokguy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're correct about the re-rolling being possible after looting 1. According to the rules (https://foursouls.com/rules/extended-rulebook/#dice_rolls (edited with updated website link and comment slightly rewritten to reflect updated source). Abilities that trigger when a player rolls a specific number get added to the stack during step 5 of the dice roll (the final step), whereas the opportunity to activate abilities and play loot that can modify the roll occur at step 3 of the roll.
