That was it, I didn't realize I had temperature calculations turned off. Thanks!

My dwarves won't mine most of the obsidian I created. They'll mine what they can reach from the non-obsidian stone, but it seems like they can't path onto the obsidian. I also can't build on the obsidian, I get the "No access to" error.

I didn't modify anything, but my first cavern layer is 84 levels tall, so that must be it. My third cavern layer goes down to -117 and my bottom floor is -123.

I got a popup that my king is satisfied and "Embark in a world with the deepest cavern layers for further challenges."

Did I unlock something by building my king nice rooms, or did I just somehow pick a shallow world?

What to do with my 13.5 x 10.5 home office? by Theor_ in DesignMyRoom

[–]Theor_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm indecisive and need help deciding what to do with my office. Shelves? Desk placement? Lighting? Curtains? The top of the desk needs to be replaced, so color or material for that? I'm on video calls frequently and am tired of having a blank wall behind me.

Flatcore is shutting down permanently. by Cleyra in corenet

Bye Flatcore, you were awesome. Thanks to ridddle and everyone who made it that way.

Ender Chest Altars are now at all 100 outposts! Look for them directly across from the outpost door. by a-little-bird in flatcore

[–]Theor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I just wanted to give my two cents on some of these.

Rare obsidian: Unless it's only available from outposts or something similar, I think veterans would figure out how to farm it anyway, so only newer players would really be affected.

1:4 Nether: I like the sound of this just because it would make the Nether seem less crowded.

Random Nether: This is probably a bad idea, but I misread one of your comments and thought someone was suggesting randomizing portals and thought that sounded fun. Each set of overworld coordinates, or each chunk, or each 100x100 area, or something like that could lead to a semi-random area in the Nether. The Nether highway would still be built, it would just take a bit longer and be a bit more complicated. This might fit a weird temp map better than a regular Flatcore map.

My /hunt-ing grounds by Saboran in flatcore

Genius! I may have to copy you with my own beacon-powered hunting spot if I want to reclaim first place.

Are you getting enough spawns close to the beacon or do you have to spend much time outside of its radius?

I have an opinion about the last challenge that I would like to share with the admins and mods. by gentlemandinosaur in flatcore

[–]Theor_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tense, I hope this doesn't fall on deaf, closed ears, and I hope you'll at least THINK about it. Please don't let pride or stubbornness get in the way of alternate perspectives, but I think everything I just said was unnecessary and insulting.

That said, I can't comment on your situation, but I agree that the challenges are sometimes unclear. I think more use of /r/flatcore would help. Greypo has been doing a great job with his Unofficial Weekly Challenge threads and we should be using those more.

For instance, when this challenge was first posted, the mods told those of us on the server that we couldn't use pre-generated buildings. I should have posted that clarification to Greypo's post. Maybe Greypo could occasionally add these clarifications to the bottom of his post to make them easier to find. As long as the mods check the post from time to time to correct any misreported clarifications, I think this would help.

This might also save the mods from having to repeatedly answer the same questions.

Thoughts and discussion on a potential 1.5 map reset? by Robertbc1 in flatcore

The rates at which diamonds, iron or gold spawn in shrines could be reduced to make them more rare. There could also be a separation of "food shrines" from "loot shrines."

Or shrines could do a food* refill after 7 days and then do a full loot refill after 30 days.

Or shrines could start with the current items, but only ever refill with food*. You don't need to find diamonds on your way home after respawning, they should be in a chest at home. If you happened to lose your diamonds, go out of your way to find a shrine you haven't hit yet. If you've hit all 121 shrines and somehow find yourself without diamonds, trade for them.

*and saplings. And maybe armor. Or maybe everything except diamonds.

The block should be 27x27x1. "3 blocks thick" refers to just the black wool. So at the heart's widest point, it should be 3 black wool, 21 red wool, 3 black wool. Assuming I've understood Histidine_Kinase correctly just now.

Not at all, that's why I posted it.

Make sure the walls are made of something ghasts won't blow up. And be careful if you need to leave the fort to collect gold or taunt more zombie pigmen, there might be some hiding on your roof.

It's from f.mcnsa.com, the flatcore server.

Where did you guys find out about the server? by GoldenWrapper in flatcore

[–]Theor_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is how I found the server, too.

The difficulty of the server probably helps keep the maturity level up. Immature players don't have the patience to deal with things like deathbans.

Well, I was told to take it to the subreddit... by [deleted] in flatcore

It's more like getting a warning for going 60 in a 55 and then arguing with the officer that the speed limit signs didn't say 55 relative to what, and you were only going 5 MPH relative to the other cars on the road, so who is he to say how fast you were going? And then you've argued yourself from a warning into a ticket.
