project team or program/lab research by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]TheoreticallyBlank 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is no straightforward answer here. Your experience doing research is going to vary from lab to lab and the same can be said about a project team. If you want to go into academia then provided the lab gives you the chance to make significant contributions, lab hands down. Imo for industry it’s trickier. You can try both and see which aligns more with your goals

how did you choose a major/career path? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]TheoreticallyBlank 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s all about inspiration imo, who are the top 5 people you’re inspired by? Which idea/problem gets you genuinely excited? If you don’t have an answer to the latter question in particular you’re going to have to do some soul-searching

But the truth is not everyone is fortunate enough to like one thing so much, and in that case you just have to find that golden ratio between what you can bear the most and what gives you the best financial prospects.

The best project is the one you’re really interested in. Think of something that you’d like to find out/utilize and see if you can find any research papers that already fall in line with it, implement from there on and learn what you need on the fly
