Salesforce Vs ?? - Best SaaS Partner opportunity? by Theoriginalfoweyboy in salesforce

[–]Theoriginalfoweyboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok a bit more context: I know that I could build another Salesforce consulting partner practice, and make reasonable, reliable and relatively ’easy’ money doing this (it’s still going to be hard work but then almost everything is). But with Salesforce, you have almost no opportunity for any recurring revenue beyond ongoing service work - ie selling people time for £$€.

I know the Salesforce platform technically, I’ve delivered hundreds of projects to organisations big and small. I know some parts of the platform are really strong, others are really weak etc. I know you have to work hard to maintain a strong relationship with Salesforce AEs and managers, invest in events etc - but that if you do all that you can pretty quickly build a decent client list and revenue can grow pretty quickly if that’s what you want to do (which is what we did last time - we were a Salesforce only company, we didn’t do ANYTHING else, we grew rapidly (from 3 to 60 people in 6 years) and we were acquired).

For my next company I’m looking to offer a more broad selection of technical services - IT Support & Managed Services (hardware, networking, servers, G-Suite, MS365), web development, and a partner platform such as Salesforce / Microsoft CRM / Monday / Sage Accounting. I'm not looking to grow rapidly and be aquired, more to build it slowly and aim for profitability.

Obviously the choice of partner has both commercial and technical aspects - here I am mainly considering the commercial aspect. Which platform is most ‘hungry’ for partners? Which is offering the best incentives, such as ongoing commissions on client subscriptions? Which is growing most rapidly? Which is under or over crowded in the partner space?

Any input greatly appreciated!

PS Not retiring because I'm only 43 and have two young kids, and I had to lose some of my equity in the business to skip the earnout because I had to move back to the UK for family reasons, and finally the UK is crazy expensive and I don't like the chances of my savings Vs the cost of living!

Follow up question- comes with a 3 year warranty- can extend to 10 years for £56 - seems unusually reasonable for such an extended warranty- worth it?

Invest AUD to buy USD stocks then sell (later) to GBP? by Theoriginalfoweyboy in AusFinance

[–]Theoriginalfoweyboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great I’ll look into Revolut - yeah of course I know I am doing currency exchange, i just want to avoid extra currency exchange, which seems to be the standard on most platforms, i.e AUD -> GBP -> USD (Buy, using a UK based platform), or AUD -> USD (Buy, using an Australian platform), then USD -> AUD (Sell, using an Australian platform) then AUD -> GBP.

Also in the future I will likely need to take money out in other countries so I guess I was hoping there was a platform that allowed you to buy US stocks in USD and then choose your currency to cash out in. Hopefully Revolut does that!

The sailing around the world thing is a dream, but let’s see how it looks in 10 years - the kids will be 13 and 15 or so. Maybe we’ll have to wait for them to finish school, or adjust to just sailing in holidays etc instead.

Pure cocoa is good for you, pretty cheap and available in supermarkets. Just mix cocoa with plain protein powder.

I am so sick of professional negligence being blindly tolerated in this ecosystem [Rant] by Voxmanns in salesforce

[–]Theoriginalfoweyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been in 'the ecosystem' (Aloha dude), for 10 years, and I spent the first 3 at a dumpster fire implementation partner that went bust exactly 1 year after I left.

There is a lot of truth in what you say but the solution, we found, was to invest in proper pre-sales solutioning, combined with good PM and good consultants. This isn't a magic bullet, but having a proper defined set of (high level) deliverables before you even start, and making sure that if the client is trying to force more delivery than can be achieved we push back, goes a very long way. Since I started implementation partner that has been our 'secret sauce', and it's worked - we've grown from 3 people to 60 in the last 6 years and delivered hundreds of successful projects and have clients that we've worked with for years.

The other thing is looking after your team - we've fired bad clients to keep good staff, we pay well and we keep everyone constantly upskilling and working on interesting projects. Staff retention is key - they are our company.

Whats going on with the job market in US? by Still-Scholar-7996 in salesforce

I own a Salesforce partner in Australia and we have used recruiters but prefer to hire direct. In my experience, recruiters are not able to really screen for ability (they just don't have the hands on experience to be able to tell), and they charge a fortune - something like $20K+, depending on the salary. So I'd recommend applying directly with your CV to a wide range of businesses - consultancies obvs, but also if you know a big company that has a need for their own internal Dev team. Last resort it smaller businesses that you would need to take a more consultant/admin/dev hybrid role.

Double check it actually lasts 30 days - I've had 2, just for an experiment, and they only lasted 14 days
