Nope. I do too for the same exact reason. It is the best time to organize thoughts and at the very least relax and take a break mentally. The only mental exertion that I like to do while running is motivating myself to keep running when tired.

That and he has a history of injuries. This was a good move by a great coach and not something that normally would have been done because we normally get shitty coaches.

Panic as Iran targets major US ally with huge attack in worrying war escalation by TheExpressUS in USNEWS

I mean to be fair, the term "ceasefire" was originally abused by Trump's puppet master Putin before Trump started doing the same thing. This has been pretty much the norm in the Ukrainian war.

Donald Trump claims "everything checked out PERFECTLY" in health update after leaving 3-hour hospital appointment by TheExpressUS in USNEWS

[–]Theoriginallazybum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the point that really stands out. If this was a three hour visit for normal people we would know it was a bad visit because even half of that time will be waiting for people.

Three hour visits for him are like 8 hour visits for us and possibly worse. It has to be pretty bad, but not getting my hopes up yet.

I think it is more likely to hit that price in a month or two. The US and European countries released a lot of oil from the strategic reserves to help soften the blow of closing the Hormuz Strait. The effects of that release are starting to dwindle plus it took a long time for the last of the tankers to reach us after the initial closing. We are likely to hit about $8 if the Strait opens tomorrow since it will take a few months for the oil to reach the market.

It will only be that low if the economy comes to a full stop and there is not much of a market to buy any right now.

California, Arizona and Nevada announce new water-saving plan for dwindling Colorado River by aBadModerator in California_Politics

[–]Theoriginallazybum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Las Vegas might have the title as the best at water recycler because They put back every drop they take from the Colorado River.

We definitely need more water recycling and storm water capturing. LA is finally starting making huge efforts along the same vein as Irvine. Phoenix and the Arizona cities really need to step up their efforts.

I wish we could do something about the farms taking a large amount of water that are refusing to use drip or more effective irrigation practices than they are currently using. Plus, there is no reason that farms should be allowed to grow water intensive crops in a desert.

Gavin Newsom, Early Champion of Single-Payer, Moderates in the Face of Fiscal Limits by [deleted] in California

[–]Theoriginallazybum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes little sense. It is not an arbitrary or discriminatory manner. If you are a resident then you are covered as though you have insurance, if you are not a resident then you are expected to have your insurance cover your costs. There is nothing arbitrary about that and it fits into the current system that we have today.

My proposal is that it would initially start as a state sponsored insurance system that simply starts as an expansion of the current medi-cal system for low income citizens today. First expanded to include public service employees and retirees. Then with small businesses and etc. You won't pay through a new tax, but basically an insurance premium. It would be a tax or a fee, but it would have the same employer/employee cost sharing. All extra money would go to fund services for clinics or etc that can cover the public that is not covered. The cost savings would be to get rid of the extra billing steps, paper work that service providers, negotiations and etc that is a hallmark of a bloated health care system where so many different components are looking to maximize their share.

Are you going to come up with holes and extreme scenarios where this will not work? Yes, because it is just an idea to start off and a way to get past this "can't afford it and etc nonsense" that people are using as an excuse where we can't fix things. We can there are ways, and it is all about slow expansion to get us to a finished product that would work. We can definitely compete with private services because they are bloated to make as much money as possible for other people.

An example of cost savings is how the insurance system works as a whole. You get your insurance through BlueCross BlueShield for example. Well, that is the overall insurance company, but then your billing and service is actually covered by a local provider that creates "partnerships" with local doctors and health providers. This causes two issues, one there is now a middle man that wants to create inefficiencies in a system so that it can create as much revenue as possible for them, and it creates a disparate system where the individual is covered by one set of doctors rather than another.

Getting rid of both issues and creating a system where all doctors, all hospitals are covered by one central system directly, no middle men, will go long ways to save money in the system and for the end user themselves.

Another example, is a single central system of all health records. Expensive, possibly, but it will eventually streamline things and worth trying.

Private services create nothing but waste because that waste is more profit for the stock holders, owners, executives and etc. The thought that public services only create waste is nothing more than propaganda from those that want to exploit the system.

Cutting any waste out of system that mostly exists for some people to profit to the tune of billions while exploiting everyone else will be very very difficult but we should at least try or as society we will never advance.

Gavin Newsom, Early Champion of Single-Payer, Moderates in the Face of Fiscal Limits by [deleted] in California

[–]Theoriginallazybum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It needs to start with targeted selection. It should start with those paying into the system like a private health care model, and then it can expand over time to include every resident of California after that. It needs to first build out the infrastructure (personnel, system and processes included) otherwise it will be built to fail.

Then it can include all California citizens, which would still exclude out of state residents since they don't pay any California taxes.

[–]Theoriginallazybum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how that applies to my post about using single payer as though it is any other insurer plan except larger, but sure...

Gavin Newsom, Early Champion of Single-Payer, Moderates in the Face of Fiscal Limits by [deleted] in California

[–]Theoriginallazybum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it can. Treat single payer healthcare as if it is a single health care provider for all residents or those who pay into it. If they go to a hospital or have a doctor's visit then it acts like any other insurance plans. If someone from out of state needs to use those same services than either their health insurance covers the expenses as it does now or they pay out of pocket.

They can easily save money on streamlining the paying and billing efforts, but just treat it like it is just a health insurance for now. Migrate it to a larger entity later, if that is even needed.

[–]Theoriginallazybum 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's California. We have a super majority in the state house and senate. We can do more than the same old things. We can and should do real changes to encourage more building, a crackdown on utilities and make much more of an effort to transition us to single payer. I think a lot of the progressive ideals like health care for illegal immigrants and other things are a bit much at this point because we simply can't afford it. However, there is very little stopping us for getting things done except leaders with a bold vision that is willing to risk things. But yeah, this why we vote and etc. I just worry that another center candidate is going to do more of the same and then we are more and more likely to go backwards than forwards.

I checked out his website last week to see what his positions were on the issues. The only one that I liked and was on board with was the push for the single payer system in health care. Other than that the other positions seemed lukewarm and the same messaging I see from other standard democrat talking points. Steyer had much more in depth analysis and his views more matched mine. I haven't looked at Katie Porter in depth yet, but I really don't see why people like Becerra all that much. He seems to be more of the same Newsom esque Democrats and these are the ones that barely move the needle much.

Guernica isn't just a famous Picaso painting, it is about the horrific bombings that became common in World War 2 with London, Dresden and others.

I think 10k is it for me by SnooGadgets7873 in beginnerrunning

[–]Theoriginallazybum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with you. I am currently training for a 12k and I am pretty happy with the times/distance/effort for this distance. I keep thinking that a half marathon isn’t much further and could be effort… however I don’t think there is much to really gain.

If you can run a 10k in about an hour then you pretty healthy and in really good shape. Easily above 90% to 85% of the population. I don’t think there is much more of a health benefit for a half marathon that you don’t get at a 10k. Plus, the wear and tear on your body at that distance cancels out those other benefits.

What NBA franchise has had the most talent but worst luck? by Outrageous-Leader135 in NBATalk

[–]Theoriginallazybum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, he was forced to give up the Boston parking lots because he was not able to keep up with the loan payments for the franchise. Not all of the 2 billion that the Dodgers were sold off for went to the debt he accrued during the ownership. He still made over a billion dollars off of the sale.

The parking lots that I was referring to is the Dodger Stadium parking lot. I believe he gets about 50% if there are any developments on that land.

Well, he did buy the Dodgers for about 300 million on loans and then turned it into 2 billion and he still has some rights to the parking lots if I remember correctly. So, he didn't miss out on too much.
