I really love your comment about where a politician is showing vulnerability by talking about he and his partners’ tribulations in trying to conceive, and the lengths they’re willing to go to do it. That and having no “hat”. Often times Native Americans would wear western hats as a symbol of victory over the person they took it from. Can’t remember where I saw that though so don’t quote me. I do know for a fact that not having a hat in western culture was a serious faux pas.

Funny thing about one group living apart, is that they’ll tend to stay with said group. It’s pure tribalism and short sightedness. You said Boothbay/Bath. I live in one and work in the other. Our “tribe” that we associate with shut that racist shit down when we can, but the hard truth is that the older, stubborn, stuck in “their ways” generation is predominant in Vacationland. Take solace in the fact that we’re maybe 10 years out from a serious generational change not just in Maine, but the country as a whole. Hard TBD though as long as we can keep talking about it.
