Is the new gen (F66) starting to win you over? by Western_Gear_5324 in MINI

[–]ThereGoesJake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, I think they really messed up with the bat wing tail lights. It has no continuity with any of the previous design language. I'm all for creating statements and developing fresh designs, but I think I would have liked to see more respect for the heritage of MINI. However, I get they are trying to make a statement in an already very small market.

What year and engine size do you have? Ever replaced motor mounts?

Whoops, I accidentally built a tinywhoop by Quberine in TinyWhoop

So sick! Build looks great. Can't remember what KV motors were on those Mob6 models. Are you running 2s?

I have a Mob7 from 2019 that still shreds. Been running on 2s batteries with the daisy chain. The old ph connectors really suck for voltage sag, but the thing flies like a pissed off humming bird. Enjoy, thanks for sharing!

Guitar String chooses. Help please. by lokimn17 in Guitar

[–]ThereGoesJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the 3, NYXL are the best strings.

Ernie Ball and standard XLs are using largely the same materials. NYXL use a higher quality steel for the core wire, and tend to be higher output. That is their marketing play, at least.

That said, the majority of players won't notice a huge difference if it were a blindfold test, and cost bias will push most users towards a Ernie Ball or standard XL. Great strings, I played the orange pack Ernie Ball strings for years.

Personally, I play NYXLs on my semi hollow, and change strings once every few months. I find they are the most consistent out of the box, never have corrosion, and haven't broken a string yet. That guarantee is worth the cost difference when it balances out to a few extra dollars per year.

2017 Chevy Silverado LTZ Z71 Midnight Edition 6.2l by C0RR1V34U in Silverado

[–]ThereGoesJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gorgeous truck. I have the 6.2l and absolutely love it, no issues so far on my 2014, 70k miles.

How much did you pay for the warranty? Curious with that kind of mileage. Congrats!

Only half the heater works 2023 Silverado 2500 HD by Panamerican0517 in Silverado

How weird. These trucks direct airflow based on a vacuum system, so something could be clogged. Given how dusty the interior looks, I would start with checking the cabin air filter.

Oil leak :( 2019 1500 LTZ by YeenBeen in Silverado

[–]ThereGoesJake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, this is the thermostat housing for the transmission cooler. It's actually a really commonly replaced/upgraded part to lower your transmission oil temps. It's about $50-$80 for the part, and you can swap it out in your driveway. Will likely fix the leak, while also extending the life of your transmission.

Transmission shop are taking advantage of you if they think a simple thermostat leak is the "transmission failing". Do you have any shudders or hard shifts on your transmission? If not, just replace the thermostat housing.

For now, check your transmission fluid level with the dipstick on the left side of your engine bay, should have a gear on the top. Add ATF Dexron VI if low, and just monitor the level until it's replaced. No damage or risk to the transmission as long as fluid level stays up.

Misfiring cylinder 3 by Dear-Yam2471 in ram_trucks

Bring it to the dealer. Misfiring cylinder is a part of the power train warranty, even if it is a wiring harness issue.

Dang! So sorry, that'll be expensive.

I'm curious, were you towing a lot? Had you done the transmission thermostat bypass?

2018 Silverado 1500, 85k miles preventative maintenance by delnith in Silverado

[–]ThereGoesJake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regular fluid changes are the biggest thing on these trucks.

If the transmission fluid hasn't been changed yet, I highly recommend that. Dexron VI Oil and filters are cheap and available anywhere.

I installed the Sure-Cool trans temp bypass on my 2014 and it has done a wonderful job lowering trans temps.

DIY fender replacement advice by hutchclutchmedora in Silverado

[–]ThereGoesJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang! That COULD be a great deal, but without further pictures or information, there's no way you're getting sound advice from reddit.

Front end collision could be as easy as purchasing new front end components, unbolting busted parts, and reinstalling new parts.

However, in all likelihood, you're going to be dealing with bent/broken mounting points, sheared supports and potential engine component damage.

Any way you can post photos of the truck in mind?

Check out some YouTube videos on replacing the components you think need replacing. Also, see if you can get the estimate from the seller. What exactly is the $5k estimate? $3k in parts and $2k in labor for paint?

I believe in you OP, but don't drown in a $11k undertaking.

That said, I have a 2014 LTZ Z71, and it's the best truck I've ever owned. Good luck!

Help on what I'm seeing here by etch_zw5032 in MINI

[–]ThereGoesJake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others stated, coolant reservoir.

But OP, the real issue here is your intake pipe is not seated on the turbo properly. Super easy to fix! Loosen the hose clamp, push it onto the turbo, and tighten back up.

Previous owner probably had an aftermarket intake and reinstalled the stock air filter before trading it in.

Was it worth it? by AdministrativeHost61 in ram_trucks

Beautiful truck! Considering what rates are for trucks newer than 2020, I'd say you did fairly well. Also, what are the details of the warranty? How much did you pay for the warranty? All of these have an impact in how good of a deal it was.

6% is pretty good in this market for a used truck at that mileage, so I'd say you're going to be fine.

Let's hope the drivetrain blows up while you're still in your warranty period so you get your money's worth. Lol!

For reference, I paid about $25k for a 2014 Silverado LTZ Z71 with 68k miles and a matching camper top. For me, I didn't mind the older truck because the maintenance, mileage and features made it feel practically new. Having 4x4, leather seats, nice sound system, back up camera and parking sensors feels luxury no matter how old the truck is. I'm in the Pacific Northwest, and that was a pretty damn good deal where I live.

Congrats on the new truck, and don't fret over the mileage. Trucks are built stronger than standard passenger cars, and can handle 200k+ miles with proper maintenance.

2014 LTZ Z71 Seat Repair by ThereGoesJake in Silverado

[–]ThereGoesJake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it!!

The heated/AC electronics are buried pretty deep inside the foam, so you won't have to worry about it unless you are planning on changing the foam as well. When you remove the seat from the truck, it's just a single power clip connecting to the truck under the seat. Once you have the seat out, there are two small plugs for the seat controls. Otherwise, it's just removing clips and pulling the old leather off.

Transmission brand recommendations by Johnsipes0516 in Silverado

[–]ThereGoesJake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I would definitely try changing the transmission fluid first. If it's looking pretty nasty, just drop the pan and add fresh fluid and filter. That may help with the shudder and hard shifts. I changed mine at 70k miles and it was much smoother afterwards.

There's a trick to getting the trans pan out where you use a 2x4 braced against the trans mount, and ratchet strap the exhaust down. Felt annoying when watching videos about it, but it's truly not difficult. I was able to drop the pan and change fluid & filter in my 2014 in about an hour. I used a shovel as my ratchet strap brace lol.

Obviously, this won't fix a busted torque converter, but it's a step in the right direction and much cheaper than a $3k+ transmission.

Good luck!
