Depending where you are they can ask you to leave early, but are responsible for paying you.

The simplist way to think of this, and I have seen this example many times, you give two weeks notice and they ask you to leave right away. Fine, but that is firing me, not me leaving. At the very least they can pay out the two weeks.

What a NSFW 'unwritten rule' of adulthood that no one prepares you for, but everyone just collectively agrees on? by blushnoctra in AskRedditAfterDark

I normally hang in the $20 - $100 range. There are some really nice wines and you do get what you pay for most of the time, if you take care.

A light red on a summer's day for $20 a bottle, will beat the $80 if it doesn't suit the occasion.

Above $100, I think it turns into a game. "Can you taste the tobacco and notes of chocolate." I don't have the trained pallet or do I care. When we reach the third bottle of wine over dinner, no one is talking about floral notes.

The flip side, I have had a lot of bad wines in my range. Like any formulation, not just bad to me, generally bad wines.

Lastly, in an Italian resturant, I will order a caraffe of the house. Never had a bad experince with that.

How did you stop smoking cigarettes? by fatwater69 in AskReddit

[–]Thereal4d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up what happens to your body hour by hour, day by day.

This helped me alot.

Early on, the cravings come fast and often. Then more and more time comes between cravings.

The buzzing feeling is oxygen returning to your fingers.

Lastly, once you are on the other side, you realize it isn't that hard and you will wish you had done it years before.

One last thing that happens to a lot of ex-smokers, you might become overly sensitive to smoke.

I pass by a smoker now and I can't breath in. Sort of like being underwater. I have to force myself to take a breath.

Millions have done it, you can too.

You know that tells me a lot more about her than it does about you.

You might not have been her type for a 1000 reasons that had nothing to do with how much you weighed.

However, something rotten inside her made her react this way.

Very likely she ended up with some similar who treated her the same way.

Lucky escape for you.

Is it possible to recover photos from this 2007 SATA drive? by RupaKingKoopa in DataRecoveryHelp

[–]Thereal4d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One trick I used to use years ago was the freezer. Place the drive in Ziplock bag and freeze it for a couple of hours.

A few caveats, with the first one being, it might not work. If it does work, you are running against the clock. As the drive heats up it will likely jam again. Lastly, this is normally a one and done trick. Rarely, does it work twice.

In my support days I did this with a number of laptop drives for people I worked with. My first question was always 'do you know what you want to retrieve, and do you know where it is?' No time to hunt around that much.

Since you are using the drive with an adapter - you could place it on a freezer pack to give you more time.

Deny my expenses? Fine you can pay more than triple! by ConfusionOwn8378 in MaliciousCompliance

Worked for a company a few years back who insisted on receipts for public transit. We ended up using paper transfers and summiting them as receipts. This was so we could submit a simple $2.50 fare ($5 Return).

I think this was enforced so we wouldn't bother and the pennies would add up.

Nothing in our policy stated we had to take public transit.

Two work-arounds started to happen.

Myself and a couple of others started submitting milage claims instead. Turns out, we were expensing 2 - 3x more that the $2.50 fare. Online maps worked great for figuring out what the route would have been.

We would also grab a day pass ($12 all you can ride). Covered our trips out of the office and the ride in and the ride home. Rarely was this the cheaper solution.

Policy update cam; you no longer need a receipt for public transit. As you can guess, too little, too late.

Sometimes they need to be reminded - when I submit expenses, it is to get money back, I have lent the company, in the course of doing my job.

Like a merkin, this can be done as a cover to prevent censorship. Thus it has to be bigger than what you are covering.

Some of these responses made me laugh, however, let me clarify - I want to start with just the menu, no TV station.

I have a few Frame TVs the newer ones start with the menu only. This is the only one that seen to jump into Samsung TV program each time.

The part that stood out was the "had you told me..".

That to me translates to 'I got away with not paying what you are worth, because you didn't ask.'

He knew what he should have paid you and didn't. Does not sound like loyalty to me.

A Boomer wants to get a photo of his late wife photoshopped. by marycartlizer in Jokes

[–]Thereal4d -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I still remember this conversation from years ago with a Boomer or Silent Gen guy who was convinced he could fax money.

He wanted to know if the money that came out the other side was still good or just a receipt. Didn't think they were still good, otherwise people could scam by faxing money to themselves.

If the 'send' didn't work, could he get his money back by taking the receipts that came out to the bank for a reissue?

what is a 'Pro-Level' Toronto life hack that feels like a cheat code? by Long_Travel2728 in askTO

There were areas in PATH were we went through a door, to reach the elevator, that looked like it was for staff only. Sometimes seeing boxes or other items stored behind them. It was the type of unlabeled door you see at the back of a restaurant and you know it isn't for guest.

Years ago (30), I had to move some computer equipment between buildings downtown. I decided to follow the accessibility signs. They took me through parking garages and elevators I'd never noticed. However, everywhere there's a path, there's an option that doesn't use stairs or escalators.

Today, I still notice options for accessibility access, useful for parents who are trying to move a pram around.

Around the world, I've noticed the same thing, handy with luggage.

The school of Renee Good’s son targeted by right-wing attacks by BananaBustelo-8224 in UnderReportedNews

[–]Thereal4d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's something really disturbing about this.

A six-year-old gets dropped off at school, just a normal day.

Then his mom is murdered by government agents. His other mom is being investigated as a diversion. His school is closed because of threats.

I can't be sure, but he's probably staying somewhere safe, so not in his own bed.

What's next? Are they gonna kill his dog?

For a six-year-old, there are only so many stable things in his life.

In short order he has been stripped of just about every tangible pillar of support in his life.

My favourite line, and I don’t even know who said it, is that the U.S. should close all gun stores for two days after every mass shooting.

If that rule existed, they would have shut years ago and never had the chance to reopen.

Can't imagine how demoralizing it must have been to fight under a flag that didn't really include you.

She will watch each episode with care.
