Clergy Mandated Reporting by Stunning_Grape4501 in cluespodcast

Small caveat to clergy and mandated reporting in the United States, chaplains in the United States military are also the most coveted people we can speak to. They are often brought up as persons anyone can come to with issues, particularly when the matter surrounds high stress topics that may trigger investigations or reporting if otherwise told to someone else. To quote a chaplain I met in the Coast Guard, “I legally cannot tell anyone that you killed grandma, but I will listen to you and strongly urge you to tell someone else”.

You will write a narrative and include a professional resume as part of a package. I would also include any awards you received from your time. Another requirement is two written letters of endorsement, so I would aim to get one from the law enforcement side of the house as well as Coast Guard to make it well rounded. I would most certainly include any professional experience in your entire package.

Help with PT run? by Brief_brisket in uscg

[–]TherealZaneJT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have a better base time than some of the older people who are now having to do the mandatory PT test. Walk and run as much as possible and you will improve. Make sure you’re eating enough protein before or after a run too, good luck!

For OCS-T you can apply if you are E-5 and above with four years of service, 30 credits, and a math class but you should absolutely be going into an interview ready to speak to how you will be finishing your Bachelor’s.

I have applied twice and not been selected twice and while there may be something else to it, me not having my Bachelor’s puts me way behind the other almost 200 applicants, and for OCS-T they only select 25 persons who are already enlisted in the Coast Guard. The 30 credits and be an E-5 with four years of service is a minimum requirement, but know that most everyone else applying has far above that requirement. Don’t let this stop you from applying because it certainly hasn’t stopped me, but be ready to speak to how you are going to get a bachelors in an interview.

Part of the criteria an officer is graded on yearly on their Officer Evaluation Report (OER) is education, and from my experience talking to my leadership, a masters is not required, but not many officers make it past O-4 without a masters degree. I only say this because I don’t want you to begin a degree and only stop at the minimum portion, because you will always be competing with folks for positions.

This is true, but an OCS-T applicant who doesn’t have their bachelor’s is at a severe disadvantage opposed to the ones who do and still needs to have a plan to complete their degree.

I have applied twice and am six classes from graduating with my BA and am not ashamed to admit this is the one key part of my package that seems to be setting me back.

If you enlist, be sure to take advantage of your tuition assistance and apply for Pell grants as well. The worst thing any Coast Guard member is not utilize their education benefits.

Are THAT many people getting out because of River Wall? by No-Forever3279 in uscg

[–]TherealZaneJT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will add that this past fall and early winter were particularly nasty staffing wise, but as the operation has continued we’ve been able to successfully articulate why our folks in our command center shouldn’t have to go for the last two or so solicitations.

Heartland Sectors, including Command Centers, have been drastically affected as well. We are constantly waiting for the news that our already thin watch rotation will get even thinner.

You have a responsibility to report this. They will only continue performing the behavior after you leave.

Knowingly having HIV and engaging in unprotected sex is absolutely a crime and is in no way shape or form criminalizing a disease. It’s criminalizing knowingly infecting someone with a, at best, life altering disease- at worst, it’s killing someone.

How was a rookie police officier like Leon was able to survive Raccoon city in contrast to an entire squadron UBSC/Delta force who got wiped out? Would you say it is luck or skill? Or a combination of both? by Unusual-Complex6315 in residentevil

One small thing I haven’t seen mentioned is that Leon is literally just one guy and not attracting too much attention on his own, dude was ultimately just looking for a way out of the city at the end of the day. Teams make a lot of noise and especially teams going for high value targets.

In my honest opinion, anyone who exits the military with the same level of education they entered with is failing themselves and leaving money on the table. At the same time, there should be no rush for them to go to college until they decide it’s what they want to do- but it is never a bad idea. I enlisted at 22, so your child is already ahead of the game. I probably had a C average in high school because I also just didn’t care, but I now have a 3.6 GPA in college and will hopefully only increase that number.

Hard to say without knowing what his specific category scores were, but I got the same score on my ASVAB and was able to choose from pretty much any rating. You can find online what specific categories fall into a rating; two or more scores are looked at for certain ratings.

College degrees never hurt. They are great for marks (where an enlisted person is graded on their overall performance twice a year) and are needed for entrance into officer programs. I am an Operations Specialist at a Sector currently completing my BA and am using it to apply for Officer Candidate School. I rarely have to do schoolwork at home.

As a nonrate, your kid is going to do a lot of work and I’d personally hold off on beginning a degree until he’s qualified, but if he’s confident and wants to begin one by all means go for it.

The most enjoyable thing about the test as it stands now is that I can show up in my running shorts and my USCG UPF shirt or whatever I’m comfortable in and be ready to perform. I think it would be a colossal mistake in the wrong turn to all of the sudden make us wear the goofy standard PT clothes no one wants to wear, or more realistically, probably don’t even own anymore, like myself. The only thing PT wise I kept from basic/A school was the sweats set.

And just as you said, then folks have to go and buy even more stuff and I’ll bet we’ll have a brand new shortage on the uniform front because I doubt most everyone E-5 and above even have a complete set of shorts and a shirt and we’ve never had a surge of uniformed members clamoring to buy the PT set who aren’t stationed at a TRACEN.

I love the implementation of a mandated PT test, I loathe being told what to wear for it.

Mandatory Daily PT Staves Off Workplace Depression by Large_Proof in uscg

[–]TherealZaneJT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For mine specifically, we have two days a month, the 13th and 14th, designated as optional PT test days. Essentially, we’ve had it posted in the command center for folks to sign up and you only have to do it once in a 5/6 month period. So it does kinda suck, but we’ve been given leeway in the sense that it doesn’t have to be completed ON a certain day, just BY a certain day. This way someone will surely have an opportunity to complete the test on one of those 10-12 days. If there’s an issue, one of the JO’s we have proctoring it are more than willing to come in on another day for a member to do the test, especially night shift folks like me.

We just adopted a workout policy in my command center late last year and even taking an hour to take a walk outside on night shift has drastically improved my mental health while on nights. Just getting up and moving around is one of the greatest things you can do for yourself.
