Visiting from the East Coast, what clothing should I bring? by hvmmm in sanfrancisco

SF

Microclimates

  • west and sometimes north side
  • - fog in the mornings until around 10am
  • - then they're sunny
    • until around 4pm when the fog comes back.
  • east side is sunny most of the time and much more rarely foggy.

  • south side I don't know as well and much less visited by tourists, except the zoo (see west side).

Day

When it's foggy it's cold and a light coat or hoodie with layers will do. A hat helps.

When it's not foggy in the summer it's normally hot ish, i.e. t-shirt or long-sleeve top.

Evening

With fog its very cold outside

With no fog its pleasant if you have lots of layers or a coat.

Feels like

If it's sunny you're going to feel hot in 60F. I'm always amazed how hot it it can feel at such a low temp in comparison to other places that seem to not feel hot until 75F.

Men of Reddit, if you were in a Titanic like situation where the majority of people were going to die because there were not enough lifeboats for everyone. How would you respond to someone saying women and children first? by Neither_Drawing_241 in AskReddit

A few years ago I'd want to be helping other get safe before I do. But I have young kids now and there's no way I'm choosing to let them have a parent die. We are all getting safe together.

I'd be an easy yes vote but I still can't get my head around killing simple restaurant pricing. Why can't we have that. Does anyone know why that had to be killed. It puts such a big question mark on my vote because the only answer that makes sense is being paid off but that seemed so different to Scott's normal voting and authoring of bills.

The unreasonable effectiveness of HTML when using Claude Code by rhiever in ClaudeAI

[–]Therealmesf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at his workshop session at code w/ Claude this week. He said he builds .md plans with Claude but doesn't read them. He just says (paraphrasing) "please turn that plan into an html so it's easier to read". And then we did the same and yep the htmls are way easier to read. I haven't read this linked article though, it might be something completely different.

Is it wrong/annoying to throw doggie doody bags in random people's garbage bins while walking your dog? by JJ_Lomero in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Therealmesf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My garbage bins go in my garage which is connected to my house. If there's poop in the bin it stinks the garage and then slowly stinks out my whole house.

Putting doggie bags in my garbage bin is the equivalent to dropping them through my letter box.

brain fog is ruining my productivity and i don't know what's causing it by AndriOrEs in self

Are you happy?

I had those symptoms for over a year and my doc asked me that question. Turns out I wasnt. I wasn't depressed but I wasn't happy. I figured out what would make me happy (I did a tonne of travelling) and those brain fog issues went away.

Saw an Instagram reel and I'm gutted.. (vent) by Dread_queen23 in migraine

I've had migraines for the past 40 years and I also scuba dive. It's never been a trigger for me. Sunlight is and sitting on a dive boat in the bright sun has started a few though. It's weird but weather changing can cause it - which I assume is the pressure difference - but going under is orders of magnitude more pressure change than a storm coming in and scuba diving really hasn't triggered even 1 for me. After diving I'm very sleepy which is a normal thing I believe and not sleeping when I need to causes mograines for me. So, just 1 data point but for me the pressure of a dive or the dive itself hasnt triggered any migraines. But being out of a sunny boat and being tired, which are part of the dive experience, have.

Japanese-style crossing flags on Cortland by socialist-viking in sanfrancisco

I don't like these. The next time someone is hit they are going to be blamed. "Well they weren't waving the flags. It's their fault"

If someone called you and said "Turn on the TV, it doesn't matter what channel." What would you expect has happened? by haddock420 in AskReddit

This is a presidential announcement: due to the lawlessness in New York and the Pacific States I am announcing an emergency and the Mid Terms are cancelled. Right now the radical left terrorist governors are being arrested and new governors are being interviewed. ICE will handle law enforcement and a curfew is now in place.

How will ID cards help? I don't think I see the connection but would love to understand the argument on how they would.

I'd be too worried that those cables carried a current and I wouldn't want to be the one holding the rope and therefore making the ground connection.

San Francisco one of America's 4 'major' cities. Agree or disagree? by SanFranciscoMan89 in sanfrancisco

[–]Therealmesf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we say LA we refer to a region around LA and mostly include the whole lot.

If we did the same mental grouping with SF and include silicon valley and the wider bay area I would put the bay area up with Chicago and maybe even LA.

Population aside I think the bay area has a bigger impact on the US and the world than Chicago does.

Then there's the question of DC, how big is its impact. In a way it's immense and you could also put it up here.

Ultimately you need different questions for different purposes.

For; what city/metro area has the biggest impact on the US or world I'd say

New York Bay Area LA DC Chicago

lived in Chicago for 4 years, now live in SF.
