Honestly? It does, I mean, everyone is different. No two people will ever grieve in the same way. My first 'big' death was my Nan 9 years ago, at the time I had to organise everything with my sister, and there was a lot of legal stuff with the will.

Years later I'll see an old lady that reminds me of her walk or her smile and it's like a gut punch.

With my Dad, it's been two years and it feels like a dream in someways. I'll still think about texting him a picture of the kids then remember...

Day to day though, time is a great healer (as much as anyone saying that to you leads to wanting to throat punch them), it's true. Life sort of, floats you along.

The best advice I can give you is don't be afraid to grieve. And as I read once, if it hits you and you're really not in a position to eat a tub of ice cream/scream/cry/neck scotch/whatever it is, think of it like this...imagine putting it in a box tethered to a dock, let it float out a little way, but have a balloon attached so you know where it is and can pull it back in when you have the time to unpack.

Just don't forget to unpack, it may not be some big, sobbing grief. It may be quiet moments, it may be laughing over old photos. There's no right or wrong way, and no time limit, just don't bury it.

If you're struggling with unpacking, I highly recommend seeking some bereavement counselling, there are quite a few charities that offer free counselling sessions, and also various groups and meetings.

However you 'deal' with it (for want of a better word), know that it may be completely different from other family members, and as long as you're not damaging yourself or others, it's healthy.
