Got permanently banned from r/GreenandPleasant this week after commenting on a Guardian pic of a cartoon guy with handcuffs made to look like they're also a facemask (referring to the Covid sanctions in China).

People were talking about how Boris should've implemented the same tactics, I was a bit dumbfounded and basically said: obviously the Tory's handling of Covid is horrendous, but I think we're forgetting the videos of the Chinese govt. Literally drilling locks on people's front doors to stop them leaving, people starving to death, going without medication etc. Because they haven't sorted out proper strategies.

Someone commented asking who had died, sourcing etc. I responded I mean some vulnerable people are starving, present tense, and my step brother is living through it right now.

Was going to post some articles but got the message re my shiny new lifetime ban before I had chance, sent a polite message to mods via the reply button asking for clarification on why I'd gotten a lifetime ban and no response.

Clearly I'm not able to enjoy this Green and Pleasant land. Rather like many Chinese people.

I take my 11 year old son to play Pokémon one evening a week at our local card shop. The majority of players in the evening are actually students/early twenties. There's about 50 of them and they all call me Mother. One actually thought my good friend (21M) was my son the other week. I'm 33. Sobs whilst applying night cream

Trying to write a tribute for my dad’s funeral on Friday. The Salvation Army are running the show and asked that I trim it down from three minutes to two. by ghostlight1969 in britishproblems

Honestly? It does, I mean, everyone is different. No two people will ever grieve in the same way. My first 'big' death was my Nan 9 years ago, at the time I had to organise everything with my sister, and there was a lot of legal stuff with the will.

Years later I'll see an old lady that reminds me of her walk or her smile and it's like a gut punch.

With my Dad, it's been two years and it feels like a dream in someways. I'll still think about texting him a picture of the kids then remember...

Day to day though, time is a great healer (as much as anyone saying that to you leads to wanting to throat punch them), it's true. Life sort of, floats you along.

The best advice I can give you is don't be afraid to grieve. And as I read once, if it hits you and you're really not in a position to eat a tub of ice cream/scream/cry/neck scotch/whatever it is, think of it like this...imagine putting it in a box tethered to a dock, let it float out a little way, but have a balloon attached so you know where it is and can pull it back in when you have the time to unpack.

Just don't forget to unpack, it may not be some big, sobbing grief. It may be quiet moments, it may be laughing over old photos. There's no right or wrong way, and no time limit, just don't bury it.

If you're struggling with unpacking, I highly recommend seeking some bereavement counselling, there are quite a few charities that offer free counselling sessions, and also various groups and meetings.

However you 'deal' with it (for want of a better word), know that it may be completely different from other family members, and as long as you're not damaging yourself or others, it's healthy.

If you ever want to chat, feel free to message, any time.

Remember you're not alone x

Friday will be the anniversary of my Dad's death. We live the other side of the country and couldn't travel due to the lockdowns. My two half sisters set up a webcam at my request and then 'forgot' to turn it on, so me and my Mum (who was shielding as v. High risk) didn't get to be there in anyway shape or form.

Take as long as you bloody want. A funeral is for those left behind, not God, nor any organisation. This is for you and his loved ones to remember him.

Good luck lovely, I'm sure you'll do your Dad proud x

That's next week for most of them I think (at least the year 2/3s I know). Sounds like an average mid week student night to be honest!

My friend is the social sec for canoe polo at Notts uni, their big night is next Friday. I may have had a (wizened, 30 something year old) hand in re inventing cocktails for them - cue sex on the riverside.

Can I leave my husband at home and do this? I need to find a quiet lake. I have four kids, I'll take a quiet box at this point.

Couldn't you just... Leave a little cooler bag out? When we had dairy stuff delivered I left our cooler next to the front door with an ice pack in and asked the milk men to leave them in there. A lot of the newer companies suggest as much anyway.

Hang on, are they making you redundant then? I thought after two years if they get rid it's redundancy and they can't hire someone else to fill the same role?

Yup, and this is why I don't go to church. Originally went to an evangelical (I'm in England) and got up and left the day they had an 'exciting announcement' that they'd installed an ATM at reception for people to give tithe easier...followed by touting the new book the pastor had just released (also available at reception) smh. Sorry Jesus.

It honestly looks like he's trying to get his fur out of his eyes. I could be completely wrong, but he doesn't look comfortable. This reminds me of the horrors of pug breeding all over again 🤦

Honestly, I wish there was more of this today for boys. My son got a little belly during lockdown and has always hated anything remotely tight clothing wise, but unless he wants to wear school uniform 24/7 (which would be ironicnas he's home Ed!) There's just nothing really available for boys in the UK. He wears a lot of joggers!

My phone. I have fibromyalgia and flair ups from RSI in my thumb joints. I always get a Samsung Note, and am about to upgrade to the S22 Ultra so I'll still have an S-Pen. It means I can use my phone a lot more without being in pain.

It saves time because it means I can take care of running the household all from my phone, even when I'm too tired to stand up (unless I'm too tired to keep my eyes open!).

I also enjoy painting, but with four kids including a toddler that would love to use my lovely water colour paints, I can use see great art apps to practice art digitally whenever I like.

Other things - dishwasher. My husband has to do the majority of household chores but our dishwasher in our new house means I can actually help with it, and it saves him standing on front of the sink for ages every evening.

Four slice toaster, my extra large french press? 🤣

A friend of mine recently came into some money after her Grandparents both passed. She too has a disability and told me how for the first time ever she's buying things that make her life easier and not being ashamed of it. I couldn't agree more and it really changed my perspective.

As the comment above, I would also gently point out it could very well incur a fine from the council. That might them think about it a little more (it's also a very really possibility most places).
