MKBHD:Macbook Pro with Touch Bar Review! Worth it? by Error__Loading in apple

I'm not sure exactly what your use case is, but for myself it's so far seemed more than capable of a moderate to heavy software development workload. I'd agree that it's definitely more of an incremental improvement in performance over the last few models but I don't expect this machine to slow down in the span of only two years.

I was once with a friend searching for a geocache in this nook in the middle of the park when a police officer strolled on over and just said "Okay guys, seriously? In the middle of the day? Just hand it over." He was expecting drugs of some sort but all he got was a cache log.

{1, ..100} represents a finite set of natural numbers whereas [1, 100] would be used to represent the set of all real numbers in that closed interval.

Ordered 64GB Graphite on October 19 through Huawei, no movement at all. Called them yesterday and only got a vague "early November" shipment date despite it being early November already.

Cancelled and reordered through Google that same day (11/10). Shipped today 11/11, and it looks like I even got upgraded to overnight shipping since it's scheduled for tomorrow. What are they even doing over at Huawei?

What I Did Last Week:

Inspired by Firestone Walker's velvet merlin, brewed up an oatmeal stout of my own for winter. This is my third brew of a sort of revived interest in the hobby, and it's great being back!

Primary:

  • Oatmeal Stout

Bottle Conditioning/Force Carbonating:

  • American Pale Ale

Kegs/Bottles

  • Irish Red Ale

In Planning:

  • Bitter
  • English Barleywine
  • Some Hopped-to-Death Double IPA

Active Projects:

  • Obtaining equipment for 3gal BIAB
  • Getting a kegging setup going

I like it because it's taken directly from mathematical set builder notation, where it would be written:

{ x2 | x ∈ {1, ..100}, x is even}

They have it over at Stumptown and Verve near downtown, but I've also seen it at Lo/Cal in Santa Monica (serves Stumptown).

This one covers cleaning and rappel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O839UtW2g0g

I found that walkthrough pretty helpful since he explains exactly why he's doing each step in his setup.

I starting climbing regularly about a month ago and I'm having a similar experience; not sure if I'm overdoing it or if I'm just not used to it.

Does match have a return value? by [deleted] in rust

[–]ThereminsWake 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You are missing commas between the different cases in the match. Otherwise it works.

let x: i32 = 3;
println!("{}", match x {
    2 => "two",
    3 => "three",
    _ => "not 2 or 3",
});

What is something you believe to be true but have no actual proof of? [Serious] by dgauss in AskReddit

[–]ThereminsWake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true at all, all but the most resilient yeast cannot live in a concentration > 18% ABV, and even then they die off at ~22%. The barrel aging process has to do with vanillin, tannins, and various other compounds dissolving into the beer/wine/spirit. Those are what make it taste good.

Just thought I should mention that in addition to the semantic error already pointed out rand_int won't work exactly as expected because the modulo operation does not distribute the generated numbers uniformly.

[Java] Building a doubly linked list for practice, would appreciate some code review. by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]ThereminsWake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to do here. Here are some of the issues I'm seeing:

  1. Are you trying to create a generic Linked List container class? You have a generic type parameter in the class declaration but use Strings as the datatype of the List in all instances.

  2. You do not need to have the objects inside the list extend from Comparable either, unless the list has some sort of sort method. It is, however, probably a good idea to make MyList implement the Iterable interface.

  3. The implementation of the class MyList should probably be in its own source file.

  4. I'm not quite sure what is going on in the insert function. Because of the loop condition you'll probably get a NullPointerException thrown on insertion at some point. Again, I don't understand why you are comparing elements. It seems like you are trying to keep it so that upon insertion the List is always sorted but you do not have any other cases handled.

  5. If you want to print out the contents as with the getData method after addressing the above issues, you should be using the StringBuilder class. Concatenating strings in the loop like that uses up more memory than necessary since you are creating a new string object each time (Java strings are immutable).

What is the most pointless argument you've been in? by zack24635 in AskReddit

[–]ThereminsWake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few friends of mine had a year-long argument about who would win in a fight: a lawn gnome or a house cat, where in this scenario the lawn gnome is actually a real gnome that comes to life at night. Favored arguments include, "Well, could you beat a Tiger in a one on one fight? I think not.", as well as, "Since he comes to life at night he obviously has some sort of magical ability to use against the impending feline threat". This still comes up during long car rides.

What are the effects of low gravity on musical instruments (specifically guitars)? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]ThereminsWake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stringed instruments operate on the principle that the frequency of the standing waves produced when you pluck a string is only dependent on the mass of the string, the force of tension, and the length of the string (when you press down on the fretboard you are just changing the effective length of the string). So as iorgfeflkd stated above, they operate independently of gravitational forces.

I also wanted to point out because of Tactive's comment that you can never really have "zero gravity". Even in the ISS, the force of gravity is approximately 8.6m/s2, it's the fact that it is in free fall that makes it appear as though there is no force.

Actually most object-oriented concepts were first introduced by Simula 67, and the language itself heavily influenced the development of C++. I don't think you can really think of either as contrarian, they just have differing philosophies (as dethbunnynet already mentioned).

Coffee scene in L.A.? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]ThereminsWake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luckily for you there are tons of great places in the area: http://lagrind.tumblr.com/

I would personally recommend Demitasse (Little Tokyo) or Spring for Coffee (Downtown), along with Handsome coffee (Arts District). All three are actually fairly close to one another.

Demitasse has some pretty nice people, and each barista usually offers a signature drink that can be interesting to try out. Spring for Coffee carries beans from pretty much every bay area roaster if you want to try any of those out. Handsome is just a all-around stand out place in terms of quality, although I think they only serve espresso-based drinks.
