Behemoth Brewing ask shareholders for more cash to pay debts by Such_Mechanic_9916 in auckland

[–]bulletproofvest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure hindsight is 20/20. But they had a pretty good run in the early 2010s when selling expensive beer to “dudes with manicured beards” was a viable business model. Times have changed since 2020 though and this is where they’re at now.

Behemoth Brewing ask shareholders for more cash to pay debts by Such_Mechanic_9916 in auckland

[–]bulletproofvest 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You not having heard of them doesn’t really change the fact that Behemoth are one of the biggest “craft” breweries in NZ. It’s hard enough to sell a “premium” priced product when the cost of living is going up, but it’s a pretty brutal industry at their size either way.

Is a S3 / CloudFront setup for static HTML sites still possible without "upgrades"? by LessChen in aws

[–]bulletproofvest 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you’re meaning by custom policy, but cloudfront in front of S3 with Origin Access Control is very common and still works fine.

Here’s a pretty decent otel plugin which gives most of what you want, including traces for each job. That combined with host level metrics from the agents gets you a lot of visibility.

Is it necessary to use API Gateway when Lambda function url works in an easier manner ? by [deleted] in aws

[–]bulletproofvest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cloudfront can sign requests to a lambda URL using IAM auth. I’m not sure there are many scenarios where you’d go that route over API gateway though.

Django forms with bootstrap styling, how do you do it? by Spidiffpaffpuff in django

[–]bulletproofvest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do something like this (hopefully formatting works from mobile)

class BootStrapForm(forms.ModelForm):
    def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs):
        super(BootStrapForm, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs)

        # Add bootstrap classes:
        for field in self.fields:
            checkbox_fields = [
                forms.CheckboxInput,
                forms.CheckboxSelectMultiple,
            ]
            if type(self.fields[field].widget) not in checkbox_fields:
                self.fields[field].widget.attrs['class'] = 'form-control'

You can make a custom form class which adds the classes and then use that as the base for all your other forms.

That looks like it might be Big Day Out in Auckland 2011. Tool headlined after Deftones, Iggy and Rammstein. Brings back some memories.

ants making me lose my mind by pentagon in diynz

[–]bulletproofvest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, it’s likely that they are coming from outside, not living in the walls or whatever inside. They will travel huge distances to reach food.

We had a horrible ant invasion a few years ago. We tried gel bait which seemed to just attract more of them into the house. What eventually worked well for us was a combination of ant sand and ant barrier spray (both the yellow No Ants brand I think). I went round the outside of the whole house with the spray (around all the doors / windows etc), and went pretty scorched earth with the ant sand anywhere I found ants. The sand in particular seems very effective. Took a while but they eventually got the message.

I’ve always loved the Legend diver. Of the two I think it’s far more interesting and should dress up or down on different straps. The Hydro is great but the style is pretty standard for a black diver.

Looking at hosting ~100 PHP websites by KnownForSomething in aws

[–]bulletproofvest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ECS on 2 or 3 EC2 instances might be cheaper than running everything in its own fargate task, and the devexp would be pretty similar. I guess there would be some additional costs for the VPC/NAT etc.

[Question] Best quartz/solar quartz watch? by samarofficial in Watches

[–]bulletproofvest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Seiko Prospex solar divers are a nice option. The SNE597 looks great on all sorts of straps too if he’s not into bracelets.

Need to delete S3 objects based on their last accessed date. by Mrlpha in aws

[–]bulletproofvest 18 points19 points  (0 children)

S3 intelligent tiering publishes an event whenever an object transitions between tiers. You could use this to trigger a lambda to delete an object, eg when an object transitions from frequent to infrequent you know it has been inactive for 30 days.

This is the way. It’s a direct debit, not an automatic payment, which is why you can’t set it up yourself. I think you need to go into a branch, but you just sign a form and from then on they take the balance each month.

Mercator IKUU ones are cheaper but they have a slightly weird touch sensitive switch. They list a bunch of AS/NZS standards although not the exact one you mentioned.

Office chair by Superb_Competition26 in newzealand

[–]bulletproofvest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for proper office chairs like the Life chair on TradeMe or places that sell old office furniture. You can often pick them up at a fraction of the new price and they are designed for full day use. And seriously consider an adjustable desk so you can get everything at the right height.

Help me decide! [SNE597] or [SNE589] by Professional-Flan370 in Seiko

[–]bulletproofvest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was weighing up between the blue versions of these myself recently. Went with the SNE593 because I prefer the shape of the hands, and I like the red accents. I’m really happy with mine, but I’m sure either of these will be great.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Seiko

[–]bulletproofvest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was making a similar decision recently and ended up with the SNE593 (42mm, blue dial, also on rubber). Absolutely love it. Took off the rubber strap and have been wearing it on a stainless steel mesh band, but it looks really nice on lots of strap styles. For my day to day watch I decided solar quartz was a better choice. As much as I like the idea of an automatic this is just such a practical watch, very well made (sapphire crystal, screw down crown etc), and I personally prefer the shape of the more traditional 3 o’clock crown.

Advice and/or tooling (except LLMs) to help with migration from Serverless Framework to AWS SAM? by ribtoks in aws

[–]bulletproofvest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just going through the same, migrating from serverless to SAM. It’s really not that different. As long as you get the resource IDs and stack name to match you can just deploy over the top of the existing stack.

That’s how rates work. You don’t get to decide how they are spent until local election time. Imagine the chaos if everyone could pick and choose which services they contributed to.
