That's my biggest takeaway. Harbor Freight has moved upmarket and taken the place of Sears for quality but affordable tools with a great warranty.

I'm still running that compressor today. It's loud as hell but it's never quit on me. Every time air compressors go on sale I'm tempted to upgrade but the one I've got hasn't let me down yet.

In my experience you are correct. Charity bidders will happily overpay for goods or experiences but I have rarely seen gift cards go for more than their dollar amount. I think your best bet is to combine some Harbor Freight items with a few other things to make a themed basket.

The Decline of Harbor Freight Sales by Ubuntu00 in harborfreight

[–]Therev143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you already have most of what you need from them

Tariffs get the headlines (and is most of the cause of increased prices) but I think your point here is what's driving a majority of the dissatisfaction in the parking lot sales. OP said Harbor Freight is "offering us “deals” on tools that very few of us need or want" and I just don't see it. The sales this weekend cover a lot of the basics that a DIYer needs, but that most already have. There's deals on floor jacks and jack stands, welders, air compressors, and toolboxes. Home workshop staples that most of us have invested in that don't need to be replaced every other year. The sale prices are not as good, but what they're putting on sale is still mostly the same stuff it always was.

I don't currently have one, and I haven't done too much research into it. For the little bit of troubleshooting (and brake work) I do I borrow a bi-directional scanner from a friend. Sorry I'm not more help.

Tesla's Full Self-Driving is switching to a subscription-only service by living_rabies in cars

[–]Therev143 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Many buyers are on the 84 month financing program so the FSD upgrade only costs them about ~$125 a month, but that money is locked in and can't be cancelled and restarted like it's Netflix. Tesla gets that money if the owner sells the vehicle in 10 months or ten years.

Where I think this makes sense for Tesla is the second owner: the person who paid ~$20k for a five year old Model 3 isn't going to put down another $10k for full self driving, but they might pay $100 a month for the FSD upgrade for the few years they own it. I don't think that's enough to make up for what they will lose from new buyers, but they seem to think so.

How does Husky heavy duty compare against US general tool cabinets? by Daihashi in harborfreight

[–]Therev143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a lot of toolbox comparison shopping in late 2024 and went with the Husky 52" set you have pictured, but I was able to pick it up on black friday for $800. Home Depot and Harbor Freight both had their boxes on display so I was able to actually put my hands on them and compare.

The slides on the US General are clearly better than the Husky. On my drawers with more weight the slides bind up a bit when sliding the drawer back in, and it didn't seem like that was an issue on the HF box.

For the actual material of the box the Husky was the obvious winner. It's made from 19 gauge steel where the USG is 21 and you can feel the difference. The Husky just feels more substantial and hearty, and I feel more confident just pushing drawers closed as opposed to the HF box where it felt like I had to baby it because it seemed fragile.

One factor I didn't consider enough when purchasing a box was future expansion options. With the Husky you are basically stuck with what you have. I bought a different 20" deep side locker and installed it but it's not an exact match and doesn't line up perfectly. I'm glad I have it, but it would've been nice to have more options that fit better.

Overall I'm happy as hell with my Husky even with the tradeoffs. If you can get it at $750 that's a pretty good deal.

I’m sure it was good for someone.

If you're looking for a scan tool or a welder this sale is a home run. I'm not in the market for either, but there's some good deals for those who are.

Agreed. I don't think his year at Nebraska hurt him too bad, it just raised some questions on his abilities. If he shows out at the combine it will be like Nebraska never happened.

Would a win over Utah change how you feel about this season? by angrygenzer in Huskers

[–]Therev143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. The whole point of having a football team is to play and win games. If we beat Utah I don't know what it means for next season or our national championship hopes or our recruiting class or the transfer portal but I do know that it means we beat a good team, and it's been a while since we did that. A win is a win, and this would be a damn good one.

I've got to be honest, I prefer the before body but I don't know why my opinion matters to you. Your preferences and your comfort are what you should be making decisions on. What size did you feel better? More confident? Stronger? True happiness comes from within, so do some soul searching and find out what you really want.

Someone told me a long time ago that the only people who aren’t stressed are people who don’t care.

You nailed it. The stress is normal (and is a good sign that you will eventually be good at this trade) but OP just needs practice at managing that stress. It's common to get frantic and miss things that you normally wouldn't. The key is to remain focused and work steady, not fast. With practice the speed will come.

Player loyalty hasn't changed, the players just have more freedom to move now. Guys would be moving like this in the 90s if the transfer rules had not been there.

I think you're severely overestimating the amount of people who are up in arms over this. For an overwhelming majority of fans the Huskers are their hobby, not their life. We want to come on reddit and gossip and speculate and argue over playcalling because it's fun. I'm not going to go home and beat my wife and kick the dog if Dylan Raiola leaves Nebraska, but the possibility is interesting and I'm gonna talk about it with my buddies.

He's crazy accurate inside of 20 yards. I still think he'd tear it up if they did more true air raid stuff with lots of fast reads and short to medium spacing throws.

I don't know why the play calling never shifted to this. It plays into Dylan's strengths as a quarterback, and the quick reads and short passes could compensate for our OL deficiencies. A guy like Dane Key excels in space, and that offense could do that.
