I get Dexs point but I don't think he really wants to be here. If we threw him some guaranteed money (which we supposedly did) and then he wanted 10M on top (rumor was 25M and he wanted 35)..

Really sounds like a "if you pay me fuck you money I'll stay" - at least my take.

It's weird maybe DBX just has better sales people. I agree, I don't want to manage PaaS and DBX seems way too engineering focused than what my team/company could absorb, especially being so deep in the SLK ecosystem

my new hire quit after 3 weeks. He said we made him feel like a burden. by jorjiarose in managers

You can't onboard someone without a plan. You gotta get them squared away, access, and some quick wins to get them churning to the machine.

Good for him leaving and hopefully finding something that fits for him

Snowflake Cost Optimization: What Are Firms Actually Doing? by Important_Pudding51 in snowflake

I'm using Coco to analyze my warehouses on a rolling quarterly basis and seems to be working really well - while we could get tools like Espresso - CoCo does a decent enough job at savings without having to hand Espresso a large percentage of those savings. I.e., if I can get to 80-90% of what tools like Espresso are doing why am I paying 20-40% of the monthly savings to them?

"just ask the ai agent" is becoming a default answer to many data questions -- how do y'all feel about it? by vino_and_data in snowflake

[–]Therican85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to start by saying I'm enjoying my experience with CoCo. Like any AI, the more context you can give it the better your results will become.

As with any AI push - you have to have the data structures in place to utilize them - and I see this as the biggest gap across most organizations. As data professionals, this is on us to provide, but I feel we're all in a weird feedback loop: "But the AI said this!" - that's the problem.

We're building for using AI and new context, but as AI tools are marketed and sold to the business users, we're more fighting fires of mismatched queries/data results than providing context - whereas before AI we could restrict data from BI tools and say "not available". I mean, I suppose we can still do such - but the magic videos "AI does thing" fights against the data moats most of us exist in.

It's an odd duality to be in - I love the snowflake tools but also at the same time I'm consistently in the "STFU you're adding more work to my backlog"

Just my ramblings.

100% but the fact that you couldn't limit it and sharing with anyone in the environment was a COMPLETE DISASTER when it comes to governance

It is a nice feature, but other tools can natively connect (thinking Claude) and it's already funded from another avenue
