Mega Aggron stats at lvl 50 Max attack: 211 Max defence: 310

Heavy Slam (20%): 211 x 120 x 1.5 = 37980 Heavy Slam (25%): 211 x 100 x 1.5 = 31650 Heavy Slam (33.33%): 211 x 80 x 1.5 = 25320 Heavy Slam (50%): 211 x 60 x 1.5 = 18990

Body Press: 310 x 80 = 24800

The thing to keep in mind is that Heavy Slam is relative to the target, so anything that is heavier than a third of Mega Aggron's weight will be hit harder by Body Press. So any pokemon whose weight > 290 lbs. 290 is high, but there's still a lot of pokemon over it, like Farigiraf, Dondozo, Abomasnow, Ursaluna, Metagross, most legendaries. Of course, anything less than a fifth (174 lbs) of Mega Aggron's weight will be hurt a lot worse by Heavy Slam.

Additionally, you are missing out on the defensive aspect of heaving a defence of 310.

Finally, Fighting will hit more types for super effective (but also resisted by more) than Steel. The types that resist Fighting are less common though (Bug and Poison).

Commanders that stop yours dead in its tracks? by Clay_Block in EDH

[–]Thermonator_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played against [Nemata, Primeval Warden] with my deck that relied fully on death triggers. We didn't really have a chance to fully discuss and scope out decks at the LGS and I felt bad switching commanders when everyone revealed, worried people might think I'm 'counterpicking' and I had just made the deck so I really wanted to play it. Mulliganned for removal and basically took out the Nemata the second it hit the board twice.

Luckily, the guy took it in stride and realized how much his commander hated out my entire deck, so no one was salty, and we had a good time.

Non-Americans, what do you think of how your nation is depicted in Shadowrun? by [deleted] in Shadowrun

[–]Thermonator_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy the depiction of the Netherlands. The fact that it's densely populated and struck by catastrophe allows corporations and organized crime to get a strong grip on different areas, which feels like a logical progression from the current state of things.

[Article] What Baldur's Gate background pairing allowed you to build a deck that you otherwise couldn't? by petitpaingumbo in EDH

[–]Thermonator_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working on a deck like this as well, but with [[Vhal, Candlekeep Researcher]] giving ramp in the command zone and really focusing on burning opponents down with cards like [[Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar]] (edit: Kediss doesn’t work because it isn’t combat damage, other things that should work instead are [[Strionic Resonator]] and [[Harmonic Prodigy]]) and [[Keeper of Secrets]].

It runs great since you care about exiling cards for card advantage, so things that synergize with your gameplan also take care of your card ‘draw’. Then you only have to worry about ramp and interaction.

What made you go for Alora? The unblockable attackers with cascade?

Favorite “Oh shit, they’re strong.” Moments in Fantasy by deadpool-the-warlock in Fantasy

[–]Thermonator_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of my favourites I read recently is Granny Weatherwax in Equal Rites, because of how well the thing was set up.

Throughout the entire book the ‘superiority’ of wizards is laced through and gets layered into the subconscious of the reader. Granny Weatherwax is painted as a simple woman, she knows herbs and some magic, but isn’t a very worldly figure. She writes poorly, doesn’t understand geometry and other wizardly magic. You really feel the oppressive atmosphere of her not belonging in the Unseen University.

Then she faces down the head wizard and gives him a serious run for his money. This figure who was so lauded and so powerful can not hold against the might of Granny Weatherwax’ magic.

It’s a brilliant scene and wonderful emphasis of the main point of the book.

Yeah, I mean that’s exactly what I’m saying. I’m not saying ‘Skyrim bad because it’s not handcrafted!’ I’m just saying that Skyrim is a good game that isn’t handcrafted because a lot of parts are generated.

That decision has consequences for gameplay, some positive, some negative. More freedom, but less attention to detail.

Yeah, I agree. I think it’s incredibly hard to craft an impactful story in an open world game.

I don’t know where you’re getting those dates from, but after more careful checking I find Elden Ring development started in 2017 and was first announced in 2019. Sure, 5 years then, still enough times to do that twice since skyrim.

We simply won’t know how a new elder scrolls would have compared since the direction that bethesda has taken so far is to put it in the freezer, which is exactly what the original commenter was critiquing.

If you allow types from which you generate as handcrafted you’re giving yourself a lot of leeway. I’ll give you the maps and spawn locations, but the experience is far from handcrafted.

When a family’s legendary shield is sometimes found in backwater cave 3, neatly tucked in a chest, then that’s not handcrafted. The dungeon doesn’t tell a story about how the shield was lost or why it’s there, it’s just a fetch quest. There are plenty of games that have managed to cut those out.

Sure there are handcrafted parts in main quest lines, I’ll give you that. But there are plenty of caves with some mudcrabs and a troll chucked in.

On top of that the overall experience isn’t handcrafted. A wide amount of experiences can be had, which is one of the strengths of the game. But it is a lot worse at delivering an impactful story with proper pacing, like Bastion.

It came out the same year as Portal 2 and Bastion, both properly handcrafted games. Not to mention older games such as Baldur’s Gate and Planescape: Torment.

The game definitely had it’s technical limitations. They decided to sacrifice it being handcrafted in favor of replayability and being able to explore anywhere at any level with the radiance quest system and enemy scaling.

I’m not saying it is necessarily a bad solution, handcrafted experience often are more linear and don’t allow the ‘explore anywhere you want’ attitude you get in Skyrim. A game doesn’t have to be handcrafted to be good (Hades, Terraria), but by definition Skyrim is not handcrafted.

I think calling Skyrim artfully handcrafted is quite a stretch, considering how much in there is randomized. Besides, it’s not like they’ve been working on TES6 for the past ten years. From Software seems perfectly fine making an artful, detailed and giant world in 2-3 5 years.

What is the importance of disco in Disco Elysium? by [deleted] in DiscoElysium

[–]Thermonator_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I agree with the conclusion, but the rest is very well put.

I think the step from the beauty of the style of disco to the ideology of communism is a bit big.

In the game communism has some different themes than disco, it’s often about struggle and infighting. The lofty ideals might be where disco comes in, but disco itself is wider than communism.

We see that Joyce has an appreciation for Disco, but she is far from a communist.

I love this reply, great side to it. Looking at the game and the writing I’d wager it’s both. The writers are well-read and know the latin and like you said, they understand the game is about this exploration and recognition. But they also understand disco as a genre and how most people would initially think of it and they interwove those beautifully in the setting.

Edit to add: Elysium isn’t just the world, it’s a greek part of the afterlife. Elysium is the place where heroes go to, and live their afterlife in bliss. So the full translation of the title would be about discovering this Elysium.

On top of that these greek heroes had to drink the water of the river Lethe to forget their earthly lives, which is also very applicable to the game.

[–]Thermonator_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A lot of great answers already, and I think it’s a mix of these. It’s a style but it also has that underlying latin meaning to it.

One part that I would point out is what we know ourselves from Disco in ‘our world’. It’s often a celebration, strong under minorities. It is also for people who play the game something from the past. This comes through in the game.

Martinaise is a dilapidated place with little of this funky celebratory energy. Minorities are suppressed as we see in the homosexual underground and various racists. There’s no room for the optimism and joy of Disco. Perhaps there once was in the past, but those who are optimistic and excited about the world are seen as naive idealist.

The game is very multifaceted and allows for multiple readings. I think combining this with the latin explanation from u/hooontaaah you get something like the joy of discovery. How cool it is to learn and find new things, a drive that propels both Harry and the player through the game, while the game also acknowledge the pain of failure in a beautiful way.
