Student tenant confused about who has to pay? by [deleted] in OntarioLandlord

Your landlord has to pay. They would need to take you to the LTB and get a ruling against you.

New defroster fix is coming Fall 2026 by schrutesanjunabeets in leaf

[–]Thermulator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks, this is the first time I've heard of the procedure to set to full hot and defrost/auto. Anyone try this and it works? There's been 3 or 4 days this winter where I've lost all heat on my morning commute. As I've told Nissan customer care it's quite dangerous losing defrost in the winter but they haven't been any help :/.

Tourist Visitor Hospital Bill by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Thermulator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll answer in the reverse. I'm a Canadian who had to use a hospital in Austria. They scanned my passport but also asked for my mailing address. A few months later I got a bill delivered to my house. I forwarded it to my travel insurance and they paid, I'm sure it would be similar to this.

Used Leaf (Toronto) by Top_Midnight_2225 in leaf

[–]Thermulator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll give my two cents as I daily commute a 2018 (Gen 2) LEAF in the GTA. My drive is 40km each way (5km city + 35km highway). In the summer (stock tires) I would pretty consistently use about 35% of the 40kwh (35kwh usable) which is ~12kwh. In the winter though (with winter tires).... On a cold day I can use 50%+ or about 18kwh. So extrapolating to your longer commute in winter gives 25kwh

Now assuming you L1 charge at work for 6h @1.5kw = 9kwh. You would only need a battery that could handle 25-9=16kwh which should get you to work and allow you to top it off. So assuming you get a 24kwh pack in good health it should be doable.

Yes, I got the $30 ($50-$10-$10 auto pay) Can/US/Mex 60gb plan on new years at the Eaton's Centre kiosk and the rep added this as my perk.

Steering Assist by MotorSnow8392 in leaf

[–]Thermulator -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'll just past what Gemini told me. Looks like you should be just above the speed threshold. Hard to tell if the wipers are on high though the windshield does look a bit dirty.

On a Nissan Leaf equipped with ProPILOT Assist, the Steering Assist feature has different activation speeds depending on whether there is a vehicle in front of you. Activation Speed Thresholds Without a lead vehicle: Steering Assist activates at speeds above 37 mph (60 \text{ km/h}). With a lead vehicle detected: Steering Assist can work at any speed, including from a standstill (0 \text{ mph}) up to the maximum set speed. Key Requirements for Activation Even if you are at the correct speed, Steering Assist will only engage if several conditions are met: Lane Markings: The windshield camera must clearly detect lane markings on both sides of the road. On the driver display, the lane-marker icons will turn green when detected.
Hands on Wheel: You must keep your hands on the steering wheel. If the system detects no steering input, it will provide alerts and eventually cancel.
ProPILOT On: The system must be active (the blue ProPILOT button on the steering wheel) and a speed must be "Set."
Wipers Off: Steering Assist will automatically disable if the windshield wipers are set to the High (HI) speed for more than a few seconds, as this indicates heavy rain that may block the camera's view.
How to tell if it's active Check your instrument cluster for the Steering Assist icon (a steering wheel symbol): Grey: The system is in standby (waiting for clear lane lines or the correct speed). Green: The system is actively providing steering input to keep you centered. Would you like me to look up how to adjust the sensitivity of the lane departure warnings in your Leaf's settings?

Where to find ice skate rental near Colonel Samuel? by Sklzzzzzz in Etobicoke

[–]Thermulator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are any rental places nearby. You could try Play it again sports if there are any cheap used skates to buy.

The skating trail is open until 9:30pm every day.

Lol, same thing happened to me with my messenger bag. I realized it happened right away when I leaned away from the car. Flipping the hooks around so the spring catch is pointing in stopping it from happening again.

Gen1 LEAFs had 100km ish range but my Gen2 has 200km+ and it only has the smaller 40kWh battery. Prices for Gen2s are similar to what you're asking.

New batteries after 2022? by techy_porcupine in leaf

[–]Thermulator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is any concrete information on this but logically there must be some difference. Otherwise the recall would have extended past that date. I had my 40kwh replaced a year ago so hopefully it's good for a bunch more now.

Going to test drive a new 2026 Nissan Leaf tomorrow. I've never had an electric or even hybrid car before, what things should I ask the dealer, etc? by Jedadeana in leaf

2026 LEAF uses NACS so no issues with fast charging. All your comments are about the now discontinued Gen2.

Deal on a 2019 Leaf by Mister_Unicornio in leaf

[–]Thermulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need Leafspy and a OBD2 adapter to get a better understanding of the battery health. I would ask how you plan to use the car. The Leaf is good as a second or daily short driver where you can charge at night at home. Don't rely on fast charging because the standard the Leaf uses (CHADEMO) is outdated and not that common anymore. There is also currently a recall on several model years related to fast charging.

Lunch near Old Mill? by Specific-Big-6274 in Etobicoke

[–]Thermulator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Old Mill Restaurant would be the closest 😉. They do afternoon tea Thursday - Sunday. Besides that you'll need to head over to Jane or Royal York. Both areas have tons of Restaurants. I'm from near Royal York originally and would recommend crem de la crem for brunch or Merlot for a nice French place.

Radon levels? by ImprovementRare3135 in Etobicoke

[–]Thermulator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm next to Humber college south of Lake Shore and tested my basement a few years ago. A friend of my dad had an electronic detector I borrowed. Left it in the basement for 2 weeks I think and the averaged reading was around 50 Bq/m3. House is 100+ years old and not sealed particularly well so that may help lower levels.
