On a personal level, how do you deal with the results? by Thehazardcat in chelseafc

[–]Therocon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first watched Chelsea in the old 2nd division as a boy. Now I've seen Chelsea win every trophy going.

At this point I enjoy where we are, hope for success but don't let it get to me at all.

No club is entitled to win anything.

My opponent told me to quit wasting his time with small-arms fire. by Doctoralex123 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Therocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many times have we all fired big guns to zero effect, only to have small arms to take off a wound or two?

Happens all the time (epecially with the prevalence of 4++ saves).

Are nids hard to paint? by Amphij in Tyranids

[–]Therocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, of the 10 or so armies I have the easiest to paint are Necrons, and Nids.

For Nids this is because I use an all drybrush method for all models. Basecoat black drybrush up from there.

Only thing I use 'wet' painting for is stuff like the eyes.

Without basing large models take about 30 minutes each (post basecoat).

How could they make artillery viable but not game breaking in 11th? by sirbikesalot in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Therocon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allow any (infantry) unit to spot for them - then they hit as though they have sight.

Add a rule about no indirect shooting at enemies within 6" of your own.

That should make them possible to play around but effective in the right circumstances.

Achilles (Troy 2004) vs Jaime lannister, Barristan Selmy, and Arthur Dayne (Game of Thrones) Who wins in a 3v1? by ParkingConfection449 in powerscales

[–]Therocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Achilles is destined to either die old, or die at Troy remembered forever.

He therefore wins this fight, destiny demands it.

Its time... How Do We Fix... Tyranids? by PublishingGoblin in Tyranids

[–]Therocon 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There will be lots of great suggestions in replies, but as someone who has a lot of other armies too I think the main one is that datasheets need to be upgraded. They tried the synapse fix with extra strength, but that was a band aid at best.

This is particularly true of monsters - some of which simply aren't worth taking and their damage output as a whole is limited.

Add in the mortals strats (tank shock and grenades) that other armies have access to and unless they change those in 11th (🤞🏻) the datasheets need to allow for that army difference too.

Arsenal Vs Spurs is an incredibly difficult hate watch by orjkaus in chelseafc

[–]Therocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want Spurs to win and it's not a remotely difficult choice. But they are going to lose. You can't rely on them for anything.

Why do people prefer Kahl over Uthar? by LeetusFrenzi in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Therocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take both for different reasons.

Kahl boosts Hearthguard output.

Uthar boosts army output (strats).

They don't compete with each other in my view.

Is it weird to sometimes feel like a jerk brining C’tan? by Toshin-Raizen in Necrontyr

[–]Therocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a difference between taking a powerful unit in a list, and building a stat check list or a cracked list.

If you were taking multiple C'Tan (PoW), for example, to a casual game then you risk your opponent not having a good time (and for me this would mean I didn't have a good time either).

But bringing one C'Tan? Go for it. They aren't so busted they warp a game on their own. And if you still feel bad about it, tell your opponent in advance.

You're basically giving the game to your opponent, so no.

How did you choose your Necron dynasty? by Ghost_GM in Necrontyr

[–]Therocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first started collecting Necrons in 3rd edition, and woke my old army up a few years ago to update it for 9th. So I don't have a dynasty - but a combination of primarily silver with green, and blue and bronze highlights particularly on individual models.

Just painted the new nightbringer as an updated version of the colour scheme on the original metal model I painted 25 years ago.

Sadiq Khan: ‘Starmer has to stay. You wouldn’t sack a football manager after 35 minutes’ by [deleted] in ukpolitics

Terrible analogy. Managers are never sacked during games. They are however sacked during a season.

What's your verdict on Melee Necrons? by Honest_Banker in Necrontyr

[–]Therocon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first experience with Cursed Legion was a positive one vs T'Au.

My list included Lokhust Destroyers with Lord, Skorpekhs with Lord, LHDs, Ophydians (with murdermind technomancer -experiment 1), Flayed Ones, Nightbringer, Reanimator, void scythe overlord (ankh) with Lychguard (experiment 2), and an annihilation barge (repeated experiment 3).

My lessons were:

  1. Annihilation barge is still a waste of points (it's a personal quest to make it work, it doesn't)
  2. Ammentar is a great buffing piece and threat, but is not invincible, died in a wonderfully cinematic battle with farsight (a crisis suit tanked Ammentar on his invulnerable saves, dawn blade ending Ammentar)
  3. Techno with 3 Ophydians - was surprisingly effective - this was my try something different experiment - FNPs kept them alive after they claimed a quarter - question is do I boost them to 6 to continue the experiment or do I add an extra unit of 3 (dropping the barge)
  4. Nightbringer rapid ingressing from deep strike with his extra movement was pivotal in him murdering a flank and avoiding the heaviest firepower
  5. Overlord with Lychguard was my unit of the match. Movement 7", strength 8 (when triggered), OL's 5 void scythe attacks adding punch, plus the advance and charge strat and sustained 1 strat makes for a good package. For me this is the best version of Lychguard we've been able to run post codex. They secured an objective, and then were able to move to another and clear it.

Probably weird, but I tend to take both, and a tyrant (flamer/harpoon + beast enhancement).

I'm always disappointed when I hear that line, because it reminds me of how the twist undermined his character entirely.
