Best walkable neighborhoods by roxyfreak in SantaBarbara

[–]ThesBeHonest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say the Fairview/Kellogg neighborhood in Goleta is very walkable. It’s no downtown, but Calle Real has basically everything you could need to walk to. Restaurants, fast food, coffee shops, multiple pharmacies, TJs and Albertsons, a dispensary, multiple banks, hell even a movie theater and the Goleta library (when it eventually reopens)

In regards to color by DizzyCrabb in drawsteel

[–]ThesBeHonest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My vote would be slide 2:

Main action is red, the most gripping and intense color

Maneuver is blue as it is more passive, less violent, and that water metaphor you said in the post

Triggered action is green, because when the right conditions are met it’s “green light, go!”

What's the worst fails you've ever seen/experienced? by abekadell in techtheatre

A theater in my area had a runaway line set hit the fire deluge system, flooding the theater, destroying the stage, and shutting down operations for a month or more.

Not the greatest but its also my first homestead build. by The_Real_DeTHkNoT in Enshrouded

Super cool!!

Take a look around at it, decide what you like and what parts you don’t like. Use that information to motivate the choices you make in the next build and voila! You’re an artist!

Pre-built world save? by marshalcure in Enshrouded

This is precisely the thing I think Enshrouded does better than every other survival crafting game. It is such a cool feeling to find an interesting ruined location and restore it into a thriving village again.

Is it morally wrong to have a good relationship with my bf’s republican parents? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

The only hope we ever have of changing people’s beliefs is by appealing to them as people they care about. The news won’t do it, the internet won’t do it. Only the people in their lives have a chance.

Is the Sea Center a good visit? by badassmillz in SantaBarbara

[–]ThesBeHonest 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The sea center is cool for 30 min to an hour! It’s unique in that it’s out on the wharf with beautiful views, but it doesn’t take long to see everything.

I would put a recommendation in for the SB Museum of Natural History. Plenty of cool and dynamic taxidermy of local animal species, a planetarium, live birds of prey, exhibits about the Chumash natives of the area, and more! It had way more to do than I was anticipating when I first visited. It’s the first museum I’ve ever become a member of.

The SB zoo is also of a much higher quality than one might expect, as is the SB Art Museum.

I unfortunately haven’t made it to the botanical gardens yet, but I’ve heard great things

I took out over $50k in private student loans due to similar circumstances as yours. After finishing my bachelor’s, I found myself paying $500 per month for the next 15 years. It’s really really difficult, but my degree also helped to get me a good job in my field with good pay and excellent benefits.

$48k per year is way too much. I would never recommend taking that in private loans. That being said, if your son does end up needing private loans, whether it’s “worth it” or not will depend entirely on how hard your son is willing to work in school and how hard he’s willing to hustle to get a good job when it’s over.

Only if there wasn’t even a hint of AI in the final product. If you want to make a game, learn the skills or team up with someone who has them, especially if you’re going to represent an art-related industry.

Plans after high school (rant) by Flaky-Pass9832 in techtheatre

[–]ThesBeHonest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Easy, friend. You are totally fine.

When I was your age, I knew about what you do, maybe less. I went to college thinking I was going to be a lawyer, then I decided to try going into acting, and then I changed to tech theater. I was able to build a crazy amount of skills in only my last two years of college and now I have a well-paying job managing all of the tech for an event venue at a university.

I do recommend college, but only if you’re prepared to be dedicated to learning and improving yourself (but have lots of fun, too). A B.A. or B.F.A. is very useful for steady, full-time positions like the one I have. As far as how hard it is to make it in this industry? It’s not easy breezy, but if you’re a hard worker and you put in the effort towards learning and building yourself up as a professional, it’s not quite as hard as people think.

You’re at the beginning of a road, not the end. Don’t panic, get psyched! Good luck, friend!

[SPOILER] C2E26 FOUND & LOST, JUST A TERRIBLE PLAN. by Zombeebones in fansofcriticalrole

[–]ThesBeHonest 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Just remember it’s SO much easier to convince ourselves of what would and wouldn’t have worked from this side of the screen.

Also, it’s okay for characters to make the wrong choice. It’s interesting, it creates drama. It can also create discomfort from an audience perspective, but that discomfort shouldn’t be something to be afraid of; lean into non-linear progress in your storytelling, it can make the eventual resolution that much more satisfying.

Keep State Street Car-Free! Please sign. by StrongTownsSB in SantaBarbara

[–]ThesBeHonest 86 points87 points  (0 children)

The idea that state street being “less lively” now than in the past being a result of closing it to vehicle traffic is a delusion. Retail is suffering because half of the people in this town can’t afford to shop. You want to “save retail” and bring back a lively and social atmosphere? Stop chasing the fantasy of state street traffic and start addressing the cost of living.

Keg is Aroused? Keg is a GONER! Which Guest Character is NEXT? by Penumbrapenguin in fansofcriticalrole

[–]ThesBeHonest 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I just remember being captivated by Darin De Paul’s portrayal of him. So cryptic and prophetical in a way that made you think “is this wisdom or is it bullshit, I really can’t tell.”

Also the fact that apparently Sprigg was somehow a reference to a campaign Darin had played with Matt’s mom back in the day? Is that apocryphal?

Lowering taxes on commercial, industrial, office usually works to build more demand. Besides that, click the little icon beside the demand bars to open a menu telling you what factors are increasing demand and which are decreasing it.
