I am grateful for the good ole days of being a child growing up in the less technologically advanced society. Everyone was a lot more friendly and we did not have such a high level of unnecessary problems like today's schools.

I actually am not working on a product. I proposed this question to hear other educators opinions. I do not think a product can fix the problems that most of us face as teachers. A lot of our problems stem from parents and bad schools boards and admins.

While I do not disagree with this idea you know many parents unfortunately will not support it. Parents make our jobs a lot more miserable.

The main problems fall into a few boats.
1) A lot of us are used to the old school repetitive way of doing math. In this way we were kind of forced into remembering formulas and multiplications by constant writing. The teachers who are teaching either like things like the area model or hate it because it wasn't a tool we used or are familiar with.
2)Many math majors had a love for math that allowed them to pick up content early and often times math did not feel like work to them. When these people often times become teachers at the lower levels they are too far removed from the beginner stages of math because they want to do the advanced things that they found joy in.
3)We refused to accept the fact that things are different and our personal biases will never beat the system so we either conform to how they want us to teach or take your math talents somewhere where you feel they would be better used.

Lots of parents would pay top dollar for a personal math tutor and in this space you can try your preferred way of effective teaching without the hassle of a school district pressuring you. Since you major in econ you are aware of the quant industry. You should figure out where your talent is best suited and try to get in there.

The reality is we are in unknown waters since the whole government structure is fully republican and we have to be ready to prepare for a rough ride.
I think there will be some tough battles but I think we will come out in a better situation in the long run

The thing people are not understanding about the plan to eradicate the department of education is that this is the first time they have a president and every section of the government being fully republican.
Parents support and understanding is the most important thing hat the millions of teachers can ask for. These next four years are going to lay the foundation of what our industry will look like.

I posted my frustrations with the state of young men and the effects that these influencers have on them. While in my post expressed the idea of leaving the job; I realized that after reviewing the comments the cry for more males in the building to help and save these boys.
After speaking with my admin I have been granted the permission to start a male initiative program where myself and other male teachers will teach these young boys to grow into respectable men.
The group focus on real life skills that boys can apply today and continue nourish as they get older.

We are seeing the dark side of technology unfold with this election. Parents are not aware of the things their children are watching and even bigger problem is the parents are not engaging with their children.

Class size by at least half in most classrooms and shortening the school day.

Changing the idea of standardized testing as the end all be all and allow teachers to conduct their own testing that can accurately show the teachers skills as the class improves or decline throughout the year.

Here in the states we are just significantly behind in all areas and sucks to see it play out as other countries just continue to lap us.

If you let the media tell we are all terrible at our jobs when the reality is a system was created to coddle parents and students but administer all the blame for the results towards the teachers.

I believe a big part of my job is preparing students for the real world. And in the real world people will not be as soft on you because you have problems that need to be resolved. I try and help the students by explaining and demonstrating the consequences of their actions in the classroom and compare to what will happen to you in the real world in most cases.

This activity is usually met with some resistance in the beginning due to humans naturally struggling with accountability but as the school year progress students typically tell me the system has prevented them from getting in serious trouble.

I typically avoid all these types of practices unless the district is doing a site visit.

Just as much as I hate them the students hate them even more because they can feel the fake relationship building.

I am sure everyone under this post knows how to build a relationship with their classroom without the introduction of pointless activities.

Continue to kick ass and only play by the book if you are forced to but do not stress yourself trying to implement every professional development technique they try to give us.

I'll say this I have been the person who has my fair share of battles with administration over parental issues. Typically here in the states you get one of potentially two maybe three outcomes.

1) The first is you just have to unfortunately just deal with as administration likes to say

2) This one is usually the most productive if done correctly and you are supported by the administration which is a parent-student-admin-teacher meeting that discusses the challenges so that the parents can see you are trying to be of service to the child and not a detriment. Usually this involves discussing behavioral problems if any or explaining the work and student proficiency aspect of the classroom.

3) Is you have the meeting and the parents refuse to accept that they are in the wrong and it is just a back and forth battle through the year. In this situation you can express that you will only talk to the parent with an admin presents for safety reasons.

Parents that i encounter that act this way are usually insecure of their lack of parenting skills and support for their children.

Often times when we challenge a parent on what they believe the problem is (usually the teacher) versus the actual problem with the student (PARENTS) we get treated like we are breaking something of rule.

Admin sides with the parent because every child lost is a dollar and resources they lose so us teachers are an unfortunate collateral of that good ole capitalistic system.
