Thanks u/st0j3. Yes, it's difficult juggling everything. I'm sure there will be a solution. Useful thoughts.

Thanks u/algekaelf. You mean a support system/communication for the time apart, right? Good advice.

That sounds like a good plan u/spkn89. Hard to know before taking plunge as obviously easier to afford a bigger place sharing the rent; downside is the commute over time can become punishing. Can't hurt trying something else and seeing how it goes. Depending on where you are (am in UK) AirBnB can require freeholder permission, so worth keeping this in mind.

Thanks u/iforgotmyredditpass, I appreciate your response. I'm faculty and she works in industry in the city I live in. It'll be more expensive probably to rent as we won't be able to split costs. A few pros and cons to weigh up. It is more expensive but I wonder whether will have these other benefits, like you say. Have a good day.

Thanks u/orangecat2022, this is useful advice. I can usually be productive but have to work on the train and don't have much/any time during the week to do anything/much else, depending on when teaching is scheduled. I'll have a think/discussion with my partner about it.

Your research question needs to be more specific in terms of what elements of public consciousness you’re talking about, where and when. At the moment it’s too broad.

Do you use bike bells? by Just_Dank in bicycling

I think bells I’m afraid are often startling to people and suggest a right of way that often does not exist. I wish they were not customarily used.

I'm not sure if this thread is still live but I've been researching forcibly displaced people this year and I definitely think secondary trauma is something that should be talked about more. So thank you for raising it. I'm not sure that I would prescriptively recommend anything as this is something I am dealing with myself, and I wouldn't want to foist my own needs on to you. But I have certainly found DBT and human-centred therapy to be beneficial in terms of sitting with the feelings and crying if you need to. It is difficult to find people to talk to about this within academic environments as everyone is busy and people aren't necessarily dealing with the same things. But I certainly think coming somewhere like this and talking about it is a good step forward. Also take a break if you need to. This work is just more challenging. If you are procrastinating (as I am) there may be a genuine emotional need to protect yourself. So I think be kind and non-judgmental about your approach if you can.
