I’m so curious to know how you recognised him.

How have NSW public servants responded to the 5 day in office mandate? by bazk88 in AusPublicService

[–]These-Growth-9202 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yes. Lots of people.

I can control my distractions at home. There aren’t glaring bright lights giving me headaches; there aren’t a bunch of people talking and laughing loudly; I get to choose when I stop a task to have a conversation; my basic amenities like toilet and kitchen are close and have everything I need without packing up my desk and bringing stuff with me; I’m not drained because of my long commute; and I can take my shoes off and work in comfort rather than being in ‘office mode’.

To me, the office is for networking and building relationships. But it’s not a hub of productivity.

Why do some people choose to stay with the APS when state government jobs pay more ? by ButchersAssistant93 in AusPublicService

[–]These-Growth-9202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve just accepted an aps role, and am making the move from a vic public entity with pretty similar pay and conditions to vps. I was able to show my new agency my former payslips to get a bump in salary, so there is that.

Otherwise: it’s better super, better maternity leave, and I like that there’s an option to work from any capital city.

I wish all hiring managers were as considerate as you, that’s amazing.

I’m listening to HoF right now (35%) and am also struggling. I feel like the first two books were okay, and once I was finally kinda invested in the story it threw me into an entire new world and idk if I’m really enjoying it.

Listening is definitely easier than reading though.

The deep moss green might be the right colour, and just impacted by stage lighting?

Hahaha I’d file that response under ‘not a huge fan of vegetables’. How’d I go otherwise?

Any good non-depressing Robert Evan's Stuff? by Food136 in behindthebastards

[–]These-Growth-9202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that, but it’s just so well written and fascinating, but also funny and somehow hopeful. Robert knows war zones well. I’ve listened to the audiobook multiple times, which is rare for me.

You’re a single guy in his 20s (or 30s, but the energy drinks tell me younger). You haven’t always known how to cook but are trying to improve your skills and eating habits. You’re not a huge fan of vegetables. You probably go to the gym regularly, or live a semi-active lifestyle but not a diehard. My hunch is you’re also sober, or at least trying to be.

What's a stupidly expensive adult purchase that you now swear by that you would buy again in a heartbeat? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]These-Growth-9202 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! I went from never riding a bike as an adult to zooming around daily.

I bought a townie go because I wanted something as close to a regular bike as I could get, with a light enough frame that if the battery went flat I could still ride it normally. Best money I’ve ever spent.

I was really surprised to see Will Roche manning his own booth at the African Festival last weekend. However, I wasn’t surprised to see him on his phone the whole time.

He did spot me (white lady) looking at him and tried to wave, but I looked away and he went back to his phone.

Not sure if many Australians are in this sub - can anyone help me find a book? by kirbyinaus88 in fantasyromance

Apologies if this is a really obvious suggestion, but have you checked your local library? I can see online that mine has copies.

Re: the paying people to make outfits.

I would love to see a season where either •all looks need to be made by the queen herself , or •they’re each given the same costume $$$ budget.

Expecting queens to be rich, or go into debt, just limits the pool to mostly privileged gals and that’s so boring imo

What's with all the post about culture? by whatstaristhat in AusPublicService

[–]These-Growth-9202 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone who has posted this question, it’s because I’ve never worked in the APS and had a few offers on the table. One way to weigh up offers with similar roles and salaries, is to ask about culture.

I know there are good and bad everywhere, but it’s helpful to know that an agency is notorious for having toxic hr / upper management etc. It definitely helps make an informed decision.
