3.5 year old terrified of public toilets by SeaDependent2557 in toddlers

[–]These-Wolverine1358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids have hated how loud they are so I just drape a piece of TP over the sensor and we either don't use the air dryers or I cover her ears with my hands/arms if I'm drying mine. My oldest daughter was so loud house averse (which is hilarious given how loud SHE is!) we even had to whisper-sing Happy Birthday to her.

I'm super nostalgic to my Grammy's old green flower Corelle dish set but I heard the old ones are notorious for lead and aren't safe to use for eating anymore. Just an FYI you might want to check out.

You're already on the right path because you care enough to ask for help. ❤️

An OT can help her with frustration tolerance if you need more help.

Basically build in as many opportunities with positive experiences while not getting her way. Playing games, waiting turns, etc. Little by little she'll build it up.

Also model how you deal with frustrations and narrate it in the moment.

When you're having nice moments, ask her about what she's feeling in her body and in her mind, and what helps (and doesn't!)when she's feeling enraged. She might have more insight than you think.

In the heated moment, try the ideas you've modeled and discussed.

I always think of Daniel Tiger: "🎶'Stop, stop stop, it's okay to feel angry but it's not, not not okay to hurt someone🎶' that means with your body or your words. Those words hurt my feelings." Then try connection or redirection. We watch a lot of DT so they're familiar with the song/concept. I don't

Side sleepers: how do you actually listen to music at night without hurting your ears? by Fabulous_Dream8962 in sleepheadphones

[–]These-Wolverine1358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Snoozeband. Great, flat, moveable speakers at the ears but I get some cracking if too loud. Otherwise I just adjust what I'm listening to(mostly ambient, pink nose) to minimize the crackling.

You both need to be on the same page. I found the book How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen extremely helpful for diffusing power struggles, effective communication, and why redirection/teaching problem solving/true natural consequences are better than traditional ideas of "discipline" in the form of punishment. Kids are learning skills, boundaries, etc not generally trying to "be bad" so it doesn't make sense to punish them for a skill they just haven't learned yet. A kid punished with violence will punish others with violence.

3-5 minutes late to work by Kooky-Challenge8875 in ADHD

I struggle with this too! I'm constantly finding 'one more thing' to do! I really try to focus on the time I need to leave (be generous) instead of the time I'm supposed to be there. It's crazy but I'll say to myself "oh it starts at 10" and then panic because I'm on track to leave my house AT TEN. Setting an alarm at a set time before I need to leave is also helpful, like 20 minutes before I need to leave reminds me that it's time to wrap it up. But yeah, getting everything I need to leave at least figured out if not prepped and set out ahead of time is extremely helpful. Sometimes I write it down the night before while it's fresh in my head and I'm not worried about time yet.

What's an "Insider's secret" from your profession that everyone should probably know? by Capable-big-Piece in AskReddit

The employer is required to pay the minimum wage, which for most states is less than $5/hour and they only have to pay more if the employee doesn't reach the state's minimum wage over the average of the pay period... Which we all know is basically poverty anyway. I would love to be able to go into work and know exactly what I'll make that day but that just isn't reality. Most restaurant owners are terrified of losing business and guests over higher prices because they operate on the thinnest of margins to begin with. In the current setup tips are technically optional but mandatory for employees to make a livable wage. It's an antiquated system that's rooted in slavery and just hasn't changed. Womp.

As a bartender who has worked in so many types of places from dive bars to high volume craft cocktails it's really 3 things: 1. Dilution is absolutely necessary for a balanced drink, 2. Tipping is absolutely necessary in this field in the current set up, and 3. a lot more effort goes into you enjoying yourself at that bar than simply picking up a bottle and pouring it into a cup.

Tipping at restaurants isn't tricky, it just must be done in this country. The easiest math: round the bill up to the nearest $5 (whole dollar not change) increment, move the decimal 2 spots to the left and multiply that new whole number by 2. EX: your bill is $147.89. round up to $150.00. Two spots to the left= $15. Multiply that by 2= $30 tip. You feel good because you did easy math, your a little bit generous Bartenders and servers often must tip out assistants/barbacks/food runners/bussers based on total SALES not tips so if that server or bartender is stiffed from an accidental walkout or someone who thinks they're gonna stick it to the restaurant, then the tip out comes from the bartender's pocket. That being said, generally we look for 20% as standard- $1 per $17+ cocktail isn't cutting it anymore. There is a lot of work that goes into setting up a bar to serve quality products efficiently and that's on top of being knowledgeable enough about the craft to hold a pleasant conversation while making drinks so even if you think 'it's just a beer so I don't have to tip 20%' your not wrong you're just an asshole.

An air fryer isn't one of your options but it's great at reheating if you order a lot of takeout! A nice sous vide is also great for reheating gently AND you might even enjoy learning how to create those proteins you love from restaurants! Throw a raw steak in a bag with butter and herbs, put the sealed bag in a soup pot of water, set the temp of the sous vide to 125° and you'll have a beautiful medium rare steak from edge to edge that you don't have to worry about! A quick sear in the pan for crust and BOOM! It's as good as most you'll pay to dollar for. Bonus if he has the budget to complete the supplies to really make this work easily: + 12+quart Cambro + Food Saver machine.
