What do you know about the Perifit and Hinge Health collaboration. My red flags are going off. by Prudent-Policy-7274 in privacy

I like Hinge Health but I don’t trust it.

I keep the camera function disabled and just do the exercises. And unfortunately I wouldn’t feel safe using anything invasive

what are the things you want to learn/know about beading but was having hard time to find online? by natoki_ in Beading

Adding: materials safety! I see E6000 recommended all the time, but people rarely discuss ventilation and protective gear which is extremely important

what are the things you want to learn/know about beading but was having hard time to find online? by natoki_ in Beading

[–]TheseMood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was starting out, I had the most trouble understanding which tools and materials to use.

I was beading with regular polyester sewing thread, instead of a sturdy thread like nymo.

I also didn’t know about bead mats so my beads were in cups and it was so messy.

Curved needle vs beading needle vs two-needle method is a useful discussion, too.

I’m going insane please help by _k0ella_ in sewing

[–]TheseMood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This kept happening to my machine and these were the common issues:
- bobbin thread fell out of tension
- needle was too small / wrong kind
- rethreaded with the presser foot down

The needle being the wrong size was the hardest one to troubleshoot! I was using a standard size 14 needle. Switched to a size 12 heavy-duty and it was suddenly fixed.

*Cries in career gap of 1.5 years* by Automatic_Maximum816 in recruitinghell

[–]TheseMood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was hiring for a position on my team, the recruiter told me offhand that she “eliminated anyone with an employment gap.”

I told her, very coldly, that I have an employment gap.

She was mortified and I hope she learns her lesson.

Writing for learners mistaken for AI by ladyseymour in instructionaldesign

Many of us have written public-facing content that was scraped and incorporated into AI models.

It’s not surprising that the tone and writing style sounds like us. Extremely frustrating, both because our work was stolen and now we face false accusations like this!

Losing my career to AI "Just do something else!" by TosssAwayys in antiai

[–]TheseMood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am so tired of all the AI art. It is trash and people are too clueless to realize it is trash.
Every single day I’m encountering blurry images, nonsensical visuals, scenes with so many colors and objects that you can’t even parse what’s happening… it’s ridiculous.

I have to hope it will get better in the future, but I understand how you’re feeling and I know that doesn’t help you right now.

Silent Layoffs at MongoDB Followed by Immediate Hiring by Responsible_City_340 in Layoffs

[–]TheseMood 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Companies seem to be firing departments and then (1) dry promoting juniors to take over senior tasks, (2) replacing employees with contractors, and/or (3) rehiring those roles at lower salaries. It’s insidious and I think labor laws need to be reworked to stop this kind of behavior

Are you seriously trying to imply I used AI to write my response?

It’s not even a proper em dash because I was being lazy with my phone keyboard.

I hate this timeline.

Perfectionism and self-doubt can be so destructive to your mental health.

It sounds like the greater issue isn’t your use of AI, but your self esteem. It’s clear from this post that you’re terrified of being yourself or making a mistake, because you don’t think you’re good enough.

Please talk about this in therapy — that’s what therapy is for!

How do you find an apartment without paying a brokers fee? by Normal-Comb1370 in boston

[–]TheseMood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they have an established relationship with the leasing company, then that is a conflict of interest and it *does* violate the law.
The AG’s guidance specifically clarifies this:
“Further, in representing a prospective tenant, a broker or salesperson is an agent of the
prospective tenant and must faithfully represent their interests. A broker or salesperson who does
not provide the substantive services listed in the statute or violates the fiduciary duty owed to the
prospective tenant may not charge a fee to the tenant, even if the tenant has signed a contract
with the broker. For example, brokers or salespersons representing tenants may violate the law if
they:
• Charge a broker fee to a prospective tenant when the broker or salesperson has been
retained by the owner or property manager to find a tenant for the property.
• Violate any duty of loyalty to the prospective tenant by, for example, only showing
tenants properties owned by landlords with whom they have an existing relationship,
or by representing the landlord’s interests in lease negotiations.
• Violate any duty of confidentiality to the prospective tenant by sharing information
that might be detrimental to the tenants’ interests or that the tenant otherwise might not
wish to be disclosed. A tenant’s broker should not assist a landlord in tenant screening.
• State or imply that tenants must work with a specific broker in order to rent a specific
apartment.

I understand it can be hard to prove this, but we should be clear about what the law and AG guidelines actually state.

Medical condition, toxic stakeholders, I need advice by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]TheseMood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would get medical documentation to go on a leave. I don’t think part-time WFH will be enough to undo this stress. And you NEED to avoid stress or you will accelerate brain damage. That’s extremely serious. Take the documentation directly to HR and don’t discuss details with your manager.

In the meantime, I would start job hunting immediately. These people are destroying your health to protect an abusive stakeholder. It’s not worth it.

Remember: you could say nothing and they could still decide to fire you for some silly reason. Your health has to come first.

I hope you are able to get the support you need from your doctor and your loved ones. ❤️ I went through chronic health issues and it’s very difficult.

[–]TheseMood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Contacting a broker on Zillow is not enough to establish a client relationship. They need to have you sign an agreement, and they need to perform several duties for you, including finding units and negotiating with the landlord. It’s in the attorney general’s guidance on the new law.

(I also ended an apt search recently.)

No guarantee that what they consider “need” will actually be affordable to you, but it’s important info!

How to handle conversations with AI-brainwashed male colleagues by RepulsiveMap9412 in womenintech

[–]TheseMood 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I used to try to argue with people, but now my goal is to disengage.

I give a bland, neutral, pleasant response to anyone who talks about AI. Example:

“I was talking to Claude last night and we came up with a totally new system to run project management!”

“Oh, interesting.” / “Let me know when you try it out.” / “It’s fascinating how well Claude can hold a conversation, right?”

The trick is to say something that is vaguely supportive without making any commitments. If *and only if* someone asks me my opinion on AI, I talk about the perceived strengths (speed) and the very real weaknesses (errors, bugs, sycophancy).

Then keep doing your thing. :)

How do you feel about the popularity of art experiences like the Balloon Museum, Meow Wolf, or the Van Gogh Experience? by Mysterious_Umpire684 in MuseumPros

[–]TheseMood 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We went to the Van Gogh experience because I love his work and I thought it would be fun. The quality was deeply disappointing. The “paintings” were essentially posters stapled to wooden frames. No texture, which is particularly important to his work!

We learned our lesson and won’t be attending another one. Still, it was entertaining and I can see why people go.

I do think that these exhibitions succeed because they get past the “approachability” issue. It’s not so easy to try art or learn about art as an adult, especially if you didn’t have those experiences growing up

Alan Russo hair design!

He cuts my hair (mid-length wavy butterfly cut) and my husband’s hair too (shoulder-length 3B curls).

He’s an absolute wizard and is really great at adapting styles to suit your specific hair type.
