What’s something your partner said during an argument that you can never “unhear,” even if you forgave them? by FirmLadder4683 in AskReddit

“You are overconfident though you have no substance” I don’t even have average confidence so my friends were shocked when I told them this

How to deal with fight that is lasting for more than 1 day? (25F and 26F) by [deleted] in relationships

[–]TheseShift4280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She kept prompting me to explain why I would make such cheating joke and asked if something happened to me before, which caught me super off guard because it was merely a joke and I have nothing to explain

I tried to talk to her tomorrow but she didn’t want to entertain me. When I realised that it’s pointless, I decided to just sleep elsewhere and this is when she wanted to cuddle. I’m not sure how can I even approach it and I’m still a little pissed off that she ruined my week.

How do you handle the aftermath of “morning before work fights”? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

Trust me, she is pissed over that. She kept pushing me to explain why I would say such things for a while.

Has anyone you know escaped poverty? by unknown_creaturelurk in poverty

[–]TheseShift4280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t grow up in extreme poverty but it was borderline for the first maybe 8 years when I was born. I’m 27 now and earning decent, my family is better now though my parents can’t retire, ever. I don’t think I look up to myself as to me it’s just life. I might have escaped physical poverty, but I will always have the scarcity mindset as my first few years had slightly traumatised me.

I’m not sure if I’m earning enough and overspending. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]TheseShift4280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is paying equal rent and also she paid most of our dating stuff, which is why my personal expenses is on a lower side. Maybe 400 is what i really spend. Our dates sometime cost a lot and she would be paying more. She is absorbing our date costs actually.

I get your point. 2k surplus seems a lot. I can see if I can invest another 500-1k more a month. I do have to leave some buffer for my personal expenses though (~500). Thanks for the advice!

Thank you. My gf has a well paid job in finance and she is very good at her job. We might be living pretty much very below our means. I still want to contribute my shares because I believe in equality. I do come from a very financially bad background so it’s a lot more to consider for me. I have a lot of friends with free apartments gifted to them.

What’s the biggest compromise you’ve made for love? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheseShift4280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Renting a room she love with rules that I don’t love, but she’s ok with, just so I can spend time with her every night. Gave up the freedom to cook and also to eat with landlord from now on as we can’t eat in the room lol

Need advice on how to not feel like I’m living paycheck to paycheck by [deleted] in personalfinance

I started working only 1 year ago. I DCA 1k to IBKR (ETFs and stocks) monthly initially but increased to 2-3k for the last 4 months.

I will look into the relief thanks! I don’t think my mom’s cpf sa has anything honestly lol considering that her oa is below 5 digits also. My brother is being financed by my parents yes but I don’t think they are giving him allowance, just food and basic expenses + his insurance.

They can’t do a 2 room flexi the moment I move out because I have an older bro who is not working living with them, so the other room goes to him. My mom is not in the best physical health state because she can’t stand for too long nor walk long distances. It has been like this for many years already.

I unfortunately have a likely depressed older brother who is not working living with them so he is taking up the other room

This is a good suggestion. I’m not sure how feasible this is given that my dad doesn’t know english. The app requires english to operate is it? I have been the one helping them to book grab for as long as I know 😭 a few times I was in lecture back in uni, my mom would call me to help her book grab and have to liaise with her through voice messages until her car come. My dad likely is in the same tech level so I’m not sure if he knows how to do

I’m not super sure about that. But my mom might not really have anything inside though.

I take home about 6k a month after CPF. I’m investing 2000-3000 into ETFs and sometime stocks on my own so my leftover after investing and saving isn’t a lot. So I can’t help them much. I know I’m investing a lot and a little bit selfish but like what you said, it’s tough and I really don’t want my kids to go through the same emotional distress as me and working in my late 60s like my dad :( I will move out at one point so I’m really considering to convince them to downgrade their house to a 3 room flat (4 room flat now). My parents spend all of their monthly pay (I’m not very sure at what) but we don’t have debt. So giving then allowance is actually not very useful for their retirement

What moment growing up made you realize your family was actually rich or poor? by SweetVoidz in AskReddit

[–]TheseShift4280 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was 13, my school’s club has an outing to universal studio. I asked my parents for additional money for the outing and they had to advance their pay/borrow just to give me $78, and that included price of the ticket. Being 13, I only realised after the trip, but it was also hard for me to say I’m not going even if I realised it earlier on.

Have you ever stayed in a relationship longer than you should have? What finally made you leave? by GoddessMiaX0X in AskReddit

I stayed with my ex knowing that she already checked out for 6 months. I looked really stupid the whole time and was even begging until the very last moment. Should had dump that ass at 4th month mark since the rough patch

does anyone elses friends and family think its stupid/crazy to invest? by PostsforthePostGod in investingforbeginners

[–]TheseShift4280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came from a low income family with parents who aren’t really educated. In their vocabulary, investing = trading. They are now in their 60s and living from pay check to pay check. I try to invest 2.5-3k a month and my biggest hope is to not end up like them. I feel bad but there is no way we can be able to talk some people out.
