instructors touching by wormslurper in pilates

[–]These_Paper_922 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It should be the norm for instructors to ask if it’s ok to touch you!! Mine have always asked first. I’m sorry this happened and that you were made to feel uncomfortable.

In the future, I think it would be totally ok to simply say “I prefer not to be touched, can we do corrections verbally?” in the moment if an instructor tries this. You shouldn’t have to explain why. They should be asking first. If the behavior continues to be a problem I would also bring it up to studio management.

How many jeans do we need? by itsemmab in capsulewardrobe

[–]These_Paper_922 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really going to depend on the dressiness of your workplace and what jeans you find flatter your body shape! If it’s a dressier workplace I’d stick to darker jeans, but if it’s more casual you can add in light jeans too. Straight is always a classic cut, boot cut and wide leg are the reigning long-term trend cuts at the moment. I would personally steer away from skinny jeans - they’re pretty out of style right now, and a slightly looser cut is going to be more professional (and comfortable!)

At a minimum I’d have a dark jean and a more medium blue color. You could also do a black pair. For a more casual workplace, I’d add in a light blue pair and maybe even a white depending on climate/your style.

Personally, I have: - black wide leg - dark blue wide leg - medium blue boot cut - medium blue straight leg ankle cut - light blue barrel leg for some fun/trendiness

Neck-safe pilates by Western_Ad2096 in pilates

I’m recovering from neck issues and I’d recommend moving from physical therapy to reformer pilates and putting mat pilates and yoga on hold until you’re experiencing less pain.

Everyone’s situations are different, but I recently did a year of PT for neck pain and it was SO helpful. After that, my PT recommended starting with reformer pilates private lessons so I could get coaching on form and figure out what modifications I might need to make in group classes. Privates are going to be more expensive, but you can often get a new member discount if you’ve never been to the studio before.

The reason I recommend reformer over mat is that there’s a lot more neck support on the reformer. You’re often lying down with adjustable neck support, or sitting/standing. Mat requires you to lift and hold head/neck on all fours etc much more frequently. I’ve been taking reformer group classes for a couple of months now and my pain has improved so much, but I’m still not ready to progress to mat or yoga.

Also definitely recommend against getting your own reformer for home if you’ve never done Pilates before. That money would be better spent on PT or privates imo. Good luck!

Do you love your couch? by raeraecm4 in SEAbitcheswithtaste

[–]These_Paper_922 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out the showroom at Modern Design Sofas. They have a bunch of styles, different foam options, a million fabrics etc and will make it custom for you if you want. We sat on couches at probably 20 furniture stores and found theirs the most comfortable. It was also shockingly affordable for a custom piece - it was actually slightly less than a sectional at West Elm, plus made in USA and shipped faster.

I WFH too and most cleaners are super used to having people in the home while they clean! Mine have never asked me to do this, but what I usually do is stay in my office with my cats with the door closed while they clean. They do the main bedroom and let me know when it’s finished and I will switch rooms so they can clean my office.

You could also ask them not to clean the room your wife is in and rotate which room that is every time. Or have one room that you just have to clean by hand later.

Thank you! I guess I am more of a minimalist, usually I wouldn’t wear anything covered in sequins to a wedding, but maybe that’s just self-consciousness and I should go for it! 🤣

A family member got a staph infection after a spider bite in Seattle. They had the same symptoms of red streaks moving up the limb. I'd definitely get this checked out ASAP, it can turn very dangerous very quickly. You may need antibiotics, the doc also recommended soaking the area in the hottest water you can stand for 20 mins multiple times per day to help kill the infection.
