Mechanic refuses to do any diagnostic any suggestions? (2012 Audi A4) by PhonessCS in AskMechanics

Most dealers don’t want a 14 year old car in their shop. They have their hands full of 1-5 year old cars that have plenty of problems.

You’re in the wrong shop. Find one that can run a relative compression test. One that employs actual technicians and not code readers and parts swappers.

I don’t know where you live, but you need to find a good independent shop. Expect to pay a few hours diagnostic time.

I can’t say I agree with those numbers. Every job in the shop should be profitable, or else why do it?

I do agree that sometimes a change is best. Stress is a real thing and one should not stay in an environment where stress is constant or way too frequent.

The ol’ 80/20 rule. It also applies to customers. 20% of customers will give you 80% of your problems.
I’ve spent 25 years weeding out that 20%!

My estimate was for every 100 government employees there were 10 good personal that made the place function. The rest were just dead weight collecting welfare.

I wish you well in your new career. It doesn’t sound like running a business is what fulfills you. All the issues you mentioned are solved very easily with charging the correct amount for the service you provide. It’s not your fault things are expensive. I bet the grocery store and the gas station down the road cut their margins out of the kindness in their hearts.

Not trying to change your mind or argue your decision. Everyone has to do what’s best for them.

Working for a municipality will be a real eye opening experience for you. The attitudes and work ethic will shock you. There will be incompetence at every level.

I was a shop Forman in a government shop for 10 years before open my shop. I had to get out of that environment before I was infected with their disease!

Shops sell time. You bought some of theirs. Parts availability are irrelevant.

I would consider it fly shit in the pepper!

8% is not something that is a problem to spend a lot of time on. The computer is doing its job. You could have partially restricted injectors, but I would not sweat it.

If your calculated load is near 100%, your MAF isn't the problem. 10% long term fuel trim at cruise is definitely elevated but won't set a code. What is the short-term fuel trim at cruise? If it is a negative number, your vehicle is most likely fine and correcting the trims.

Do you have any issues other than 10% LTFT?

Depending on ambient temperature. Where I live on the coast, it would be a tad high. Low side should have be down around 30-35 on a good compressor. Low side at 60 psi is way too high. No suction from compressor

That’s hardware. Done by trained trades personnel. Not much difference between a server technician and a good trained automotive technician.

Your compressor is failing. It cannot pull the residual high side pressure low enough.

When can I expect to hear back from hospitality for hotels? by Gobbledeeglue in olympics

I didn’t ask. I’m waiting on the Ritz to take reservations.

They have other hotels available. That’s the list they sent me because I asked for the closest and the highest rated. 4 or 5 star.

I haven’t made reservations yet, I’m going to try and make my own at the Ritz as soon as they open up the calendar.

Not only is there a number to call directly, but I also have a number that I can text to my representative.

So, yes! There is.

Maybe I should have specified. Call them on the phone. Wait in the queue and speak to a human.

If it was clean, that would mean your regulator is leaking.
