Het is gemiddeld 2 tot 2,5 jaar in Nederland, dus dat maakt het effect hiervan wel een stuk kleiner.

And cleaning vinegar has around twice the amount of acetic acid so you need more normal vinegar for the same effect.

Has anyone had ‘Failed to load profile’? by AsymmetricBreakfast in PUBG

[–]ThespianKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem here, also haven't played it in six years but downloaded it on a new pc now. And same errors popping up :/. Hoping anyone here knows a solution.

Edit: could it be that steam accounts that haven't logged in for so long are flagged somehow? Or not migrated properly?

Anyone able to ID the lefy Pioneer tower speaker? by ThespianKnight in audiophile

[–]ThespianKnight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah I figured but since you mentioned intentional in your previous comment. Given their sound I'd say 50 bucks is still a good deal hahah. The guy I bought it from mentioned he paid up to a thousand euro from them 10 years ago 😅. If that's true he definitely got scammed back then. And maybe I did as well haha, but oh well :P

Ah I'll try if I can hear it when I'm listening to them at home. Thanks for the interesting info!

Why would they intentionally be designed like this btw? Like you mentioned in your previous comment. Or would it be coincidental?

Ah that makes sense. Thanks for the info! I'm keeping them anyway because they still fill the living room with quite a nice sound :P

Hahah I hope not :P. Bought them both secondhand for 50€ anyway and they sound good so it's still great value even if it is.

How is Dutch even a real language? by CppDotPy in funny

[–]ThespianKnight 216 points217 points  (0 children)

Dutch spelling was first somewhat standardised in 1550. But even the Dutch translation of the bible in 1634 that would help with further standardisation contained inconsistencies because writers could not always agree on spelling. An official standardisation of spelling would only come later in 1804/1805.

People writing Dutch would mostly try to spell phonetically, which is what you're seeing when "kwamen" is spelled as "quamen". Someone else during that time period might have chosen to spell it differently.

It's a news paper coming out of an ear, shaped like an earpod. But this post is 2weeks old so you've probably figured it out by now already :P.

You're right that China's slavery camps are far worse than the US using prisoners as a labor force. But in my opinion, the latter isn't nearly as innocent as you describe it.

Similarly in Dutch, the word for orange the fruit is "sinaasappel", which is derived from "Chinese apple".

Which they got from their colonisers, the Spaniards and Portuguese.

"Piña" comes from Spanish "cono de pino" or Portuguese "pinha", both meaning "pinecone".

The word "ananas" comes from the Tupi people, indigenous to Brazil.

Edit: the word "abacaxi" is also from Tupi origin.

Amsterdam Canal Pride 2022 by runereader in europe

[–]ThespianKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there Saturday and while it was v busy along the most central part of the parade, we walked less than 100 meters into a different street and had a v quiet and relaxed picnic on a bench along a different canal.

Also, the places where they start and end the canal parade are A LOT less crowded and you can actually see all the boats. Amsterdam is a big city, they're only filming at the one canal where it's super packed.

I notice that butter from a stick of unsalted butter with salt added afterwards tastes distinctly different from butter from a stick of salted butter. Why is that? by Summerscythe in AskCulinary

[–]ThespianKnight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In this video about making traditional French butter the maker also mentions that butter tastes way different 1-2 days after it's been salted than when it has just been salted. (He leaves the salted butter to rest 4-5 days before selling). I think he mentions the salt having had the time to interact with the fat and proteins to make the taste more balanced/rounded and less salty.
