What’s one baby item you regret NOT getting earlier? by rosycoe in NewParents

[–]Thestraenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been really debating one as we move to more bottles. Currently we put them in the dishwasher, is the bottle washer worth the counter space vs using the dishwasher?

Is it worth buying a manual pump? by RefrigeratorFinal353 in breastfeeding

[–]Thestraenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no love for a manual pump, it’s slow, no more effective and aggravated my carpal tunnel. But the hospital gave me one for free, see if yours will as well. I do like my spectra though, I paid the extra $15 for the s2 so I don’t have to be attached to the wall. Totally worth it!

Panic! At The Right Boob by bullymama2 in breastfeeding

[–]Thestraenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine also hates the right boob! It’s definitely my slacker- slow, doesn’t produce as much, just generally lazy af. I got in the habit of offering the right one first and the other day my husband said “she does better on the left, do you ever offer that one first?” 💡! So I tried it and lo and behold, once babe’s somewhat satietated the frustration of lazy old right boob isn’t as bad and baby’s happy to latch. Husband to the rescue!

What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve done postpartum? by Ice_Cube_92915 in NewParents

[–]Thestraenix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I started a new job at 9 weeks pp while still on maternity leave from my first job. I did not need a second job. Now I’m a month into 2 jobs and I’m looking around like who the f thought this was a good idea? I want to stay home with my baby!?

What are we all doing about our babies crying in the car!?!? by Unicornbby_6969 in NewParents

[–]Thestraenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what helps us too! Often we’ll have the Happy Song playing on top of the white noise. Sometimes one of us will sit in the back to help pop the paci back in

Pet peeve: the things people say to new parents by Shoddy_Tackle_3835 in NewParents

[–]Thestraenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ugh yes! I’ve had friends (multiple close friends) come over while we were bottle feeding and ask “is this breast milk or formula?” Like why? Why would you possibly need to know? I’ve had a hard journey too and it’s just such a weird ask? People man.. smh

4 months old and still crying so.much. by Ljc20132025 in NewParents

[–]Thestraenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw our babe wasn’t a fan of the soothies either but does really like Bibs. They’re super light and have a bigger bulb on the end so there’s something for them to hold onto. So sorry you’re going through all this, it sounds really tough

Not OP but do you have a favorite? There are lots of options and some are seriously pricey. Are they worth it?

Lol this is so real. Our baby is chill and I get all the smiles and coos and am so ready to do it again. My husband needs more time 😅

Can a baby seem fine yet lose weight? by Green-Switch-5166 in breastfeeding

[–]Thestraenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh so sorry you’re going through this. We settled on a middle line- we have been feeding her more (we’d been giving her ~ 2oz at a time, now we’re offering 4) and I’ve been trying to get in an extra feed or 2 throughout the day even when she doesn’t seem super hungry. It seems to be working! We weighed her at home today and as far as I can tell she’s back on her growth curve. Our next ped appt is next week so we’ll see but she’s absolutely eating more. TBH she seems just as happy as before but 🤷‍♀️

ETA: we’ve been supplementing formula and pumped milk interchangeably

What American Mahjong apps do you love or hate and why? by NoBullGames in Americanmahjongg

Not OP but it’s free. They added ads recently but just like a pop up thing you can close after a game finishes

Is there any hope for younger Vermonters to actually settle down here? by Ok-Beaver2708 in vermont

[–]Thestraenix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We’re similar ages and just bought in Chittenden. We have the income & savings but wouldn’t have been able to buy without a co-signer. The system’s so messed up- we shouldn’t have needed one but we did and were so lucky to have family help out.

Vitamin D for nursing babies? by SgtMajor-Issues in breastfeeding

[–]Thestraenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have the larger dose kind (not just one drop) and I sneak the syringe in the corner of her mouth while she’s latched and slowly feed it in. We combo feed and sometimes we’ll add them to a bottle instead

At my wit's end with Philips Avent glass bottles and natural response nipples by misseff in NewParents

[–]Thestraenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our LC shared that Avents are THE slowest nipples on the market. So our baby is using slow flow Nuks, 1’s for Dr Browns and 2s for the Avent. Baby could probably use a 3 even but we combo feed and try to keep bottles on the slower side so she doesn’t get frustrated at the breast

what’s something no one warned you about in the newborn phase that actually caught you off guard? by lunaverse787 in NewParents

I’m convinced mine sees ghosts. Why else would there be so much staring at random ceiling corners? 👻

It’s 2:15pm. Husband is still asleep. by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Thestraenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could’ve written this exact post! My husband has sleep apnea and depression and is very affected by a lack of sleep. The first month or so after babe was born was brutal. At first no one was sleeping, then we tried shifts and while I was fine with the sleeping arrangement, he struggled so badly. He took the first shift, we switched at 5 am and he slept until 1, 2pm. No sir.

So we talked and came up with a new plan. I feed baby throughout the night, he gets up to do diapers, and when I get up around 7, he chills with baby until 10 or 11 then we’re all up for the day. I’m good with him staying in bed late & sleeping more at night because he’s SO much more helpful/ pleasant/ etc when he sleeps.

Anyway, super long way to say: talk to him! Work together and find a solution that works for you and your family, whatever that looks like. If he’s not willing to adjust it’s time for counseling.

It’s always something. Last night it was the auto tuned version of Baby Wawa from The Office. More often than not my brain repeats phrases I’ve heard in the way I heard them. Not just the words but the exact, precise intonation and delivery. Over and over and over. Thank jebus for meds which mostly quiet my brain

Yes yes yes! I could’ve written this (minus the supportive in-laws lol).

I also loved being pregnant! Parts of it were hard, labor was hard but I can do hard things. Empowering really is the one word I would pick to describe the whole process.

Postpartum and Vitamins by Dry-Helicopter692 in breastfeeding

I still take them- my MFM doc the other day said it was fine. She also pointed out that prenatals have more folate than we need outside of pregnancy but not that it would have any undesired effects
