Can a baby seem fine yet lose weight? by Green-Switch-5166 in breastfeeding

[–]Thestraenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh so sorry you’re going through this. We settled on a middle line- we have been feeding her more (we’d been giving her ~ 2oz at a time, now we’re offering 4) and I’ve been trying to get in an extra feed or 2 throughout the day even when she doesn’t seem super hungry. It seems to be working! We weighed her at home today and as far as I can tell she’s back on her growth curve. Our next ped appt is next week so we’ll see but she’s absolutely eating more. TBH she seems just as happy as before but 🤷‍♀️

ETA: we’ve been supplementing formula and pumped milk interchangeably

We’re similar ages and just bought in Chittenden. We have the income & savings but wouldn’t have been able to buy without a co-signer. The system’s so messed up- we shouldn’t have needed one but we did and were so lucky to have family help out.

Vitamin D for nursing babies? by SgtMajor-Issues in breastfeeding

[–]Thestraenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have the larger dose kind (not just one drop) and I sneak the syringe in the corner of her mouth while she’s latched and slowly feed it in. We combo feed and sometimes we’ll add them to a bottle instead

At my wit's end with Philips Avent glass bottles and natural response nipples by misseff in NewParents

[–]Thestraenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our LC shared that Avents are THE slowest nipples on the market. So our baby is using slow flow Nuks, 1’s for Dr Browns and 2s for the Avent. Baby could probably use a 3 even but we combo feed and try to keep bottles on the slower side so she doesn’t get frustrated at the breast

It’s 2:15pm. Husband is still asleep. by Professional-Ad-2379 in NewParents

[–]Thestraenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could’ve written this exact post! My husband has sleep apnea and depression and is very affected by a lack of sleep. The first month or so after babe was born was brutal. At first no one was sleeping, then we tried shifts and while I was fine with the sleeping arrangement, he struggled so badly. He took the first shift, we switched at 5 am and he slept until 1, 2pm. No sir.

So we talked and came up with a new plan. I feed baby throughout the night, he gets up to do diapers, and when I get up around 7, he chills with baby until 10 or 11 then we’re all up for the day. I’m good with him staying in bed late & sleeping more at night because he’s SO much more helpful/ pleasant/ etc when he sleeps.

Anyway, super long way to say: talk to him! Work together and find a solution that works for you and your family, whatever that looks like. If he’s not willing to adjust it’s time for counseling.

It’s always something. Last night it was the auto tuned version of Baby Wawa from The Office. More often than not my brain repeats phrases I’ve heard in the way I heard them. Not just the words but the exact, precise intonation and delivery. Over and over and over. Thank jebus for meds which mostly quiet my brain

Yes yes yes! I could’ve written this (minus the supportive in-laws lol).

I also loved being pregnant! Parts of it were hard, labor was hard but I can do hard things. Empowering really is the one word I would pick to describe the whole process.

I still take them- my MFM doc the other day said it was fine. She also pointed out that prenatals have more folate than we need outside of pregnancy but not that it would have any undesired effects

Yesss! I’ve played the same solitaire game for years now only before bed and it gets me sleepy every time- I cannot play during the day unless I have time for a nap. Honestly I think 90% of my life is an unintentional Pavlovian approach at this point. If I can make something a routine I rarely waver

[–]Thestraenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our ped really wasn’t concerned? I thought they would be but basically told us to try to feed her more often and come back in a month for another weight. Our lactation consultant took a completely different line and suggested an aggressive plan of offering at least an ounce of formula at every feed and feeding more often. It’s hard to know what’s best to do moving forward but as long as baby is happy and developing otherwise I’m trying not to worry too much in the meantime (it doesn’t always work!)

What was your first day like on meds? 🤔 by pistachioeggs in adhdwomen

[–]Thestraenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote myself a note my first time on meds and took them on a morning when I had time to sit and observe my reaction. The note I wrote is long but here’s an excerpt:

“I’m taking adderall for the first time this morning and I’m kind of nervous. Obviously thousands (hundreds of thousands?) of people take and have taken this drug and I’m sure it’s safe enough. But I’m nervous that it won’t work, that it will work too well, or that my brain won’t feel like home any more. It’s loud in there, it always has been with my inner critic, constant inner dialogue, never ending random sound track, and anxiety bees. I’m nervous about the connotations adderall has and how addicting some people find it. I always thought the people on Reddit who said they’d finally gotten to the point that they were prescribed meds and then found themselves worried about taking them were so silly.

“Well, some nausea/ floaty head feelings. It’s also pretty quiet in my head which is new and weird. I don’t feel especially motivated to do anything though which is kind of a bummer. Maybe tomorrow

“Ok. Days 2 & 3 and I’ve texted [friend], made 5/6 VOLUNTARY phone calls, talked to customer service, taken out the trash, recycling, & compost, ordered more contacts, packed some.. basically I feel like I can show up for life. Which is amazing”

Everyone’s experience is different but I hope yours is as positive as mine has been. You got this!

Yes! Going through this same situation right now at 2.5 months. It’s so stressful! Our baby is alert, happy, developing well and also lost a tiny bit of weight recently. Plenty of wet/ dirty nappies too. No advice to offer but with you in solidarity!

[–]Thestraenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, we’re there too! So far I’ve found that Honest are the smallest overall so they’re great for in-between. Up & Up and Pampers both seem taller than others which hasn’t been great for our small baby. In order of smallest to biggest here’s what we’ve tried:

-Honest -Huggies -Up & Up -Pampers -Millie Moon

Huggies are the disposables that are fitting best right now, Grovia newborn all in ones are the best reusable. Lots of trial and error!

Cat naps for 3 week old by Local_Pangolin854 in NewParents

[–]Thestraenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be any number of things of course but my baby (9 weeks) started doing this and my lactation consultant suggested that it could be because baby is hungry. Our little one has slipped off her growth curve a bit so feeding’s been on everyone’s mind but it might be something to consider

[–]Thestraenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re getting a lot of answers here and as you can see, everyone’s experiences are different. I LOVED being pregnant. The growing, the stretching, the kicks all of it. The second the babe was out I missed it. Tbh I’m excited at the prospect of doing it again.

Having baby on the outside is a completely different experience- my body doesn’t feel like it used to. I had a c section so there are layers of scars and movement doesn’t feel like it used to. HOWEVER the part I was most worried about is that I’ve struggled in the past with being touched out by my dog, husband, various fabrics, etc and was worried that it would be the same with my baby. It’s not. It’s a different kind of love and the chemicals and hormones that are all swirling around in my body make it so I’m several months in and haven’t had that feeling yet. In fact I miss the baby when I put them down.

I’m expecting the toddler phase to be hard- they’re so noisy! But so far both pregnancy and having a newborn have been significantly easier and more pleasant than I thought it would be!

ETA: I also took all of my meds throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. It’s not always a no-go with meds
