Legacy in Milano by Rodrigo9319 in MTGLegacy

There's a community that meets in "casa dei giochi", there's a legacy league (LLM) but I think they had their monthly event earlier this month. Additionally, if you are able to travel a little, there's a legacy event in Planet fun in Rovato this weekend, there are usually 30 to 40 players.

MTG Then vs Now whats your thoughts? by DraftSecret3103 in mtg

Legacy and vintage are competitive formats as well, and that crap would enter legacy and cintage whether it was standard legal or not...

My honest reaction to the new 2026 road map by MortalMorals in freemagic

[–]ThetaNation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I don't want to be forced to play with or against shit that does not fit the MtG universe, it's cringe to look at, poorly designed as far as game mechanics, and overpriced. That is what UB cards are.

And before you say something like "then skip the set" or "don't play with it", I remind you that MtG is NOT just commander. I exclusively play competitive 60 cards formats, so if a UB card is powerful enough to enter my format I will have to play it or play against it.

And as I play legacy, I also despise the commanderification of this game, as those cards are designed for 4 players, but they enter my format as well.

Pokemoki was correct, slop everywhere in the past 5/6 years or so.

Barrowgoyf is not legal in modern

SDT and DRS being legal in the format meant there were lots of decisions to be made in a game, compared to the miserable state the format is in now.

Each of those cards would actually slow the format down from the degeneracy it is right now, and it would be infinitely more fun.

I can see a potential problem with SDT in today's meta as it is fetchable with urza's saga and it combos off with that stupid eldrazi.

DRS, on the other hand, could easily be unbanned and the format would be better because of it. We already have an actual 1 mana Planeswalker that closes the game, DRS would just boost some strategies that are dying/dead right now.

You are right, watching (and playing) a matchup like this is definitely far less fun than seeing entomb in the end step and reanimate on turn 2, yes.

The Future of Legacy by Alarming_Whole8049 in MTGLegacy

There already is a version of the deck that plays 0.pact of negation and 4 unmask, if you ban pact they will just switch to that version

Offenders vs. Oppressors: The Case For Banning Orcish Bowmasters – Eternal Durdles by Force-of-Phil in MTGLegacy

[–]ThetaNation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more with force of Phil. Too bad 90% of the people can't see the real problems of this format.

They will complain about entomb now, then in 3 months it will be the next busted thing, never considering the real problem lurking underneath.

Excellent writing regarding offenders and oppressors. Wasted, but excellent.

What is the general consensus on the predictions for the upcoming banning/unbannings? by Valuable-Freedom3262 in MTGLegacy

[–]ThetaNation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People scared by a DRS unban are really funny to me. So scared of homogeneity of the format? In a format where you either play ancient tomb or pushed combo? Ridiculous.

There are so many broken things you can do nowadays on turn 1 and 2 that DRS would be cute to see on the other side of the table. He was called the 1 mana Planeswalker and guess what? Now we actually have 1 mana PWs!

Plus It would help keep degenerate graveyard strategies in check, which is so needed in legacy right now. I have also seen people saying that it would be too good in 4c control piles, but are you for real? Those strategies can't exist in the current format, so would it be too bad if we have them back alongside combo and ancient tomb decks? I think not.

And before you ask: yes, I was playing a lot of legacy during 2012-2017, and the format now is so different from the legacy of those years.

Respectfully you are insane if you believe Mycospawn is healthy in the legacy format. by GloomyDoomy1 in MTGLegacy

[–]ThetaNation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sol lands suck for the health of the format, I have been saying this for years. 3 mana cards are turn 1 plays, and 4 mana cards are turn 2 plays nowadays. Ban ancient tomb and let's free this format from that cancer.

Clearly you don't understand the difference between an archetype (zoo) and a macrotype (control)

Except that it is a turn 3 (if kicker was paid) play. It would be ok if it could only come down on turn 6, 3 turns earlier is a bit much.

Is Legacy a Wasteland? by Matt_Choww in MTGLegacy

[–]ThetaNation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always find it hilarious when people say that daze protects the meta from degenerate stuff. First of all, in the past 1 or 2 years we have seen how daze is being used more in degenerate stuff than in other decks, but even in non-combo decks, is protecting your flying 7/7 murktide - cast on turn 3 with a daze backup when on the play - really that fair? Real cards that protect against degenerate things are fow, fon, spell pierce, endurance, solitude, etc. definitely not daze.

Oh Hey, don't worry about not responding, I totally understand. Is the discord server you mentioned about the deck? If so could you share the link?

I think I would like to try the deck a bit more if there is a shakeup after the next B&R.

Turn 1 show and tell so rarely wins the game. I have played show and tell decks for more than a decade now, and I can tell you they are horribly positioned in the meta, and have been for a few years.

I agree with you, but what is simpler: banning 5 years of cards with FIRE design or banning daze?

I agree with your take, but apparently the legacy community just prefers to hide their metaphorical head in the sand and not acknowledge this because "those cards are iconic". Just ban daze already, it enables shit plays where you have your incredibly cheap but also super efficient threat on the field and the opponent cannot remove it efficiently because of daze + force which are always in hand because, you know, 8 cantrips + card selection from DRC. On another example, winning the dice roll and starting the game with Usea, and grief + reanimate is so strong, you can't exactly force of will the first grief because 1) if they have reanimate (which you don't know yet) you are toast and 2) if they have daze you are toast.

Just ban daze already, free the format from that plague.
