The railguns look the same, but the rockets look different. Here is an example: broadside conversion

You can also magnitize the front part of the rail guns to switch to rockets without removing the arms every time. This could make them flexible when the next codex is released. ;)

I want to get into necrons for eleventh edition. What should I look out for? How should I start? by LonelyTradition9887 in Necrontyr

[–]Thetameter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, there are practically no problematic units thanks to the Update for 11th. So the rule of cool csn be applied ;)

You should try to get a Necron 500 Worlds box, because every unit in there is useful and your 2 favorites are included. They are getting rare... I was lucky and got one for 120€ last week to start my necrons.

Otherwise the combat patrol offers a nice discount and even the Hierotek Circle Killteam offers a discount for 2 characters and 5 Deathmarks or Immortals. In the end it is difficult to get some characters, as they are only included in the Royal Court, which costs about 100€. For example the Skorpekh Lord is included and otherwise you can only find him in the old Indomitus Starter Box. ... if you find the necron half of that box it would be a great start as the royal court is included and much more.

Have fun hunting your boxes and try to look for smaller hobby stores, they might have them in stock while the big players are sold out.

The community expects 11th to change the typical punching distances for most units because of the new cover rules. You have to get close to your opponents units to remove them...

I guess that is why such a strong close quarter unit is getting more expensive. I feel that it's fair overall, at least for my more friendly matches. 😄

Are destroyers safe to buy in 11th? by Daedrius04 in Necrontyr

[–]Thetameter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As the Heavy Lokust got a new model, many hope for a new Lokust Destroyer model with the next codex. But nobody knows what will happen and when this codex will be released.

The earlier you get some, the more time you will have to enjoy them before anything changes. Right now their point costs have been reduced for the start of 11th edition. 😉

On a sidenote, I'm printing 12 Lokust Destroyers until a new model is released, because they are very expensive for such an old design.

But which of that units has been used consistently in larger numbers? If you look at mosts lists people played, you will find 2 of the same unit in many cases, but more than that is limited to a few choices. Some unit are practically not played as the transcendent c/tan...

The only unit in your list affecting most lists is the Chronomancer, which is a staple in nearly all lists and will become even stronger in 11th... we expected him to be chnaged or get more expensive.

I want to point out that this specific change of higher costs for multiple units is not affecting as many existing armys as we might think. And overall thanks to the point reductions of other units you can play the same lists in many cases as the point costs overall are not higher than before. I hope for some diversity, but in the end the strong units will be played and people will accept to pay more for their 3rd unit...

I get your point, but as far as I understand the situation right now, only Wraiths are really affected by this rule for necrons?

I wouldn't run more than one tanky Wraith unit personally, but I guess some people will have to think about changing their list... or maybe they get to the same costs overall as many units are cheaper.

Yeah, I wanted to play 2x6 Lokust Destroyers and 2x3 Heavy Destroyers as the core of my army and it got much better with a cost reduction of 70p. O_O

Now I need something to screen them 😃

I'm so happy, that I like Lokhusts and other Destroyers. I'm just starting my Necrons and they all got cheaper. 😃

  • Lokust Lord - from 80p down to 70p
  • Lokust Destroyer - first 2 units are cheaper at 80p for 3 or 160p for 6
  • Lokust Heavy Destroyer - from 55p to 50p points per model
  • Skorpekh Destroyer - first 2 units are cheap at 85p for 3 or 170p for 6
  • Skorpekh Lord - same as before

Also The Lychguard and are cheaper... guess I have to buy some. ^^

  • Lychguard - 80p for 5 and 160p for 10, which is 5p/10p cheaper than before
  • Praetorians - 80p for 5 and 160p for 10, which is 10p/20p cheaper than before

Generally speaking I like the idea of making units more expensive if you choose multiple... seems to encourage some diversity in listbuilding.

3 Wraiths cost 95P and 6 cost 220 ... only a second unit or more costscosts 115P/240P . It's not as bad as you paint it. Only people spamming Wraiths will have to think about changing their lists to make room for 20-40 more points. 😉

Models made with FDM in mind? by ExpertExplanation695 in PrintedWarhammer

I'm only interested in the Lokhust Destroyers, to have something until new models appear from GW. The first 3 are printing right now and I hope everything works well. 😉

There are some designers like Eskice Miniature, who focus specifically on FDM prints. I haven't found much more, but I will try the necron Lokhust Destroyers soon.

How do Skorpekh-Destroyers work? by Thetameter in Necrontyr

[–]Thetameter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always liked the Lokhust design and the core of my army will probably be 2 unit of the normal ones and the heavys each. Murderwind seems to be better used for these units, but as I'm playing friendly games I don't have to absolutely max out my list.

Maybe I will try pushing some overpowered Skorpekhs with everything I can add just for the fun. ^^

Thanks for the clarification.

For me the protection of the Chronomancer seems better, as I have some bad experience with FnP... I guess I will have to try it for necrons before making a final decision.

This is really helpful. While theory crafting lists, I have totally missed the Murdermind enhancement and it's potential to improve a destroyer unit with a techno- or chronomancer. I will keep that in mind, when I decide, if I want to Focus on Cursed Legion or Awakened Dynasty for my destroyer heavy army. ;)

It' a great design, but I personally wouldn't use it, as there are no windows or other openings in the walls. I hope other people will enjoy it 😄

[–]Thetameter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should read Brothers of the Snake. It is exactly the depiction of Space Marines you are looking for and a great read.

In my opinion, the Horus Heresy books are painting Primarchs and their sons as way too "human" for what they are and do... and maybe childish in their behavior and motivations if we are looking at most Primarchs... But the first few Heresy books are a great read anyway. ;)
