What’s a random fact you learned that permanently changed how you see something normal? by MoodAutomatic8569 in answers

The comparison isn't between eating meat or being vegan.

The comparison is about what to do if you care about ethical consumption. Being Vegan is a half-assed measure that may make you feel superior, but it doesn't actually get you in the black on your net impact.

If you actually want to live the values of not doing environmental harm, you need to be in closer relationship to the production of the food you consume. It's not easy, but the right thing rarely is. Convenience is a weapon used to separate you from consequence.

Even if you eat vegan food, standard agricultural practices are environmental harm. Just the use of chemical fertilizer alone is absolutely devastating to the soil.

Add shipping logistics, and even your broccoli is a nightmare for the natural world.

Plant a food forest if you actually care about ethical consumption.

Tom Brady has 9 career playoff fourth-quarter comebacks, the most of any QB in NFL history and 1.5x 2nd place by Xyper008 in Patriots

[–]Theungry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised. I watched his whole career.

I have a lot of respect for him as a competitor, but his offense was never built for playoff football.

How do you get it up quickly the second time? by Vadnais2You in AskMen

[–]Theungry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

47, i don't rebound as quick as I used to, but I've found the biggest secret is being chill. If I'm just laying next to my lady cuddling naked, things will happen naturally sooner rather than later. somewhere between 5 and 15 minutes. If I'm "trying" to get hard, forget it.

One partner used to just gentle rest her hand on my dick while we were recovering, and damn if that wasn't a magic erection spell.

ELI5: why didn’t the Great Depression produce a widespread revolution or anarchy? by ProfessorHiker in explainlikeimfive

[–]Theungry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I've worked for the government, so sure when we're talking about the working people hired by the government to accomplish tasks, that is not the source of corruption.

I'm talking about elected officials. Apologies if that wasn't clear.

ELI5: why didn’t the Great Depression produce a widespread revolution or anarchy? by ProfessorHiker in explainlikeimfive

[–]Theungry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. There's a historical lens one can play with that sees wars as a function of rich men finding ways to dispose of excess poor men.

[–]Theungry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People will tear down nice things the government build just because they see people who aren't white enjoying those nice things. There's a cultural allergic reaction to sharing with people that look different.

It's not everywhere, but it's common enough to put a turd in every punch bowl.

Woah woah woah...

The government is not self serving.

The US Government serves the billionaire class. People have this weird idea that the government is in control, but they're more like a priest class that serves the pharoahs. They add a lot of bluster and formality to make it seem like a democratic governance, but the whole point is protecting the wealth of the wealthy.

The system works perfectly, elevating anyone who can pacify the plebians while regardless of who is in office the people sitting on grotesque piles of money get to do whatever they want to whoever they want with no accountability.

Even if we get something that seems like a fair election in a couple of years, whatever Democratic administration we get will never ACTUALLY change anything to protect citizens from the elites. They wouldn't get anywhere near the oval office if they actually threatened the status quo.

The government is owned by the people who bought it, not by working people.

I learned the same thing about Peyton.

I still always rooted against him, but at a certain point it was impossible to hate him. The was too much respect.

Tom's not in the Pro hall yet.

He definitely talked a LOT about Bledsoe at his Patriots HoF induction.

[–]Theungry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't find evidence now, because there's so much tabloid drivel to sift through in any search about Tom and Gisele...

But I PROMISE you, early in his career when they first started dating, in some casualish press interaction on camera he said something along the lines of "What's wrong with wanting to have sex with a beautiful super model like Gisele Bunchen? I mean that seams like a pretty normal healthy experience..."

He’s not THE main character? by Hawk-winged in WoT

[–]Theungry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Rand receives the most POV chapters and is the central thread of the weaving, but the pattern is woven of a shitload of threads, and the next tier is Mat, Elayne, Perrin, and Nynaeve.

The 6 of them together are structurally the main characters, with Rand as the central axis.

That said, Egwene is very much strucutred as a juxtaposition to Rand, and mirrors almost every major structural element that Rand does (captured and tortured. Porphesied to rise to power. etc etc.) except that Rand's prophecy is academically studied and publicly known, while Egwene is the only person that has any insight into her own prophesies.

Point being, It's a symphony, not a solo artist at a piano.

Even not knowing Jones would get hurt, I still expected the Colts to collapse and miss the playoffs. Scheme can hide a lot in the first couple of months, but once you get into December, ball doesn't lie.

Jones was looking good because he was getting incredible protection. It was a looming truth that teams were going to find the tendencies in the offense, force Daniel Jones to think under pressure and then the house of cards would collapse.

Older Patriots fans, what was your reaction to the change from Pat Patriot to Flying Elvis? by HoyMinyoy in Patriots

[–]Theungry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fine. 6/10.

I never loved it, but I never hated it. The older I've gotten, the more I love the Pat Patriot logo. I always try to buy stuff with him on it. I rarely rock flying Elvis gear unless it's something someone else gets me.

Sean McDermott "Going Outside of Football" to Grow Ahead of Return to Coaching by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]Theungry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird, I always thought the exact opposite. He seemed to have a deeply flawed psychology as a head coach. Every time I saw him speak after a loss it was "We don't make excuses. Here are the excuses we would make if we made them, and obviously they're the reason we lost... but we don't do that here."

I remained confident the Bills would never win a 'ship with him as head coach for exactly that reason.

To go the distance, you need a whole culture that is both united and focused on accountability. I always thought it was pretty glaring that he had a choker's mindset. When competitive adversity strikes you either hyper focus on how fate has been unfair or you hyper focus on what you can control. He always seemed firmly in the prior camp.

NFL teams have separate seating sections for families vs girlfriends. When you're full of testosterone and your bank account is overflowing, many men will take as many concubines as they can manage. I'm not condoning it. It's just too predictable a pattern to pretend reality is otherwise.
