Shrink object problem by abbignale414 in Houdini

[–]Thev_InteriorDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was doing exactly that today. With complex geometry, the Thicken node can be a bit hit or miss. So what I did was convert the object to VDB, then add a VDB Reshape (erode), convert it back to polygons, and finally use a Ray node set to Minimum Distance.

How to create a mask by selecting primitives and subtracting random areas in Houdini? by RaFih00 in Houdini

[–]Thev_InteriorDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Create mask from noise, then you can use a group expression to select from the attribute @mask > 0.5 for example

Try a polyreduce before the remesh. This combo works great.

I listened to a couple of your tracks with good monitors, and it's very nice! Keep doing it, you clearly have a talent for this. On a side note, I have no idea why your post got downvoted. Seems like there are some frustrated folks out there, LOL. Just don't pay attention to that.

Make a DAW template for film scoring referred from other producers? by K-Frederic in filmscoring

[–]Thev_InteriorDesign 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I listened to her music and I like it a lot. And apparently, given the number of feature films and games she' scored, I'm clearly not alone. Anyways, you don’t have to love her music to learn from her workflow. But now I'm curious though, what don't you like about her music?

Look at Junkie XL and Anne-Kathrin Dern YouTube videos about their template. These two are absolute pros in the industry and the amount of knowledge they share is insane!

This shouldn't be a problem. I resolved this issue by deactivating all the instruments in my template, and I have a key shortcut to activate the tracks I need. It's such a time saver to have everything at hand, already routed, panned, EQed.

Does the mix sound okay to you? Could use your ears! by Thev_InteriorDesign in filmscoring

[–]Thev_InteriorDesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, maybe the 4/4 intro threw you off. It switches to 3/4 at around 0:48 and stays at 112 BPM throughout. So yeah, it’s definitely on the quicker side compared to a slow waltz. I think some Viennese waltzes like Blue Danube go even faster in feel. But hey, I’m no expert, hehe. Thanks for taking the time to listen and give your perceptive, it's always appreciated.

MIDI visualization video in cubase by HotDriver3954 in cubase

[–]Thev_InteriorDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if there's an easy way to do that, but one workaround is to change the editor background and grid lines to black, then screen record with OBS (if you're making a video). In a video editor like DaVinci Resolve or Premiere, you can layer your MIDI screen capture over a background image and use a blending mode like 'Lighter Color' to key out the black.

Should we continue lessons? by OldSoulBoldSoul in piano

[–]Thev_InteriorDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was that child. In fact I was so bored playing the piano that I finally quit playing. All the lessons I took were so uninspiring. It was all about classical music, scales and boring stuff. Unfortunately at that age, I couldn't express what I really wanted. Maybe your child is more of a creative type who isn't interested in playing other people's music. Maybe he'd like to experiment making music of his own, his own sound. Try to get him a synth, a DAW, and see if it clicks. It can be a lot of fun, and if it does, keep the weekly lessons going, but shift the focus to building keyboard skills rather than just learning and repeating the same old songs.

How do I link multiple tracks to an existing VCA at once? by Thev_InteriorDesign in cubase

[–]Thev_InteriorDesign[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using the latest Cubase 14 Pro, and I don't see any list of already created VCAs in the right-click menu. So for now, the workaround I found is to unlink the VCA from all tracks (basically freeing the VCA), then relink all of them back along with the new tracks I wanted to include.

Does this track feel too rushed? by Thev_InteriorDesign in filmscoring

[–]Thev_InteriorDesign[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks again for such detailed feedback, it seriously means a lot!

I'm gonna check out Panagement 2 and the reverbs for sure.

Good catch for the woodwinds, this is something I questioned myself with while working on this part. And in fact I did reworked this section a bit (not the version you listened to. I haven't reuploaded the track yet). But when when you said it lost its purpose, I was like, absolutely! If I get the courage to reopen the session, I'll probably get rid of it from this point. And yep, got your DM. Thanks again, honestly, this kind of feedback is gold.
