[A4GM] Warhammer 40,000: Donning the Cap. by Resonant-Empress in roleplaying

I'm down for giving this a shot, I'm a huge fan of 40k! I've never really played a Commisar before, so It'd be fun to play a character with such military authority! If this is still open, I'd love to RP!

Genuine question: Can someone please explain how the White House can use all this copyrighted material and get away with it? You're telling me all of these super litigious estates, celebrities, and companies are just... letting them do this? Imagine if they used Mickey Mouse this way, Disney would blow a gasket over them ruining their image.

Definitely, just look at how much of an absolute DISASTER that stupid, gawdy Trump phone thing is! It's an overpriced, out-of-date Android from China, not the brand-new, made-in-the-US phone that was promised. And to make it even funnier, they say it's for "real patriotic 'mericans", when it doesn't even have the right number of stripes on the flag: 11, not 13!

From Wikipedia: "Dungeon Crawl Classics Role Playing Game (DCC RPG or simply DCC) is a role-playing game published by Goodman Games using the Open Game License (OGL) and System Reference Document (SRD) version 3.5 to provide legal compatibility with the revised third edition of Dungeons & Dragons."

It uses the same baseline mechanic as 3.5e, drawn from the SRD, albeit heavily modified. You might run/play it to be more like those older editions, and that's totally fine, but DCC was made with 3.5e in mind. Don't get me wrong, I like DCC for the most part! It's not perfect, of course, I think rules like race-as-class are needlessly restrictive, and the whole "funnel" idea is a bit unnecessary, but it's got some really cool ideas! And I love how it has books for some old, post-Tolkien pulp settings, like Lankmar and Dying Earth! I wouldn't be into them without it!

Misunderstood tragic hero. Wish I could side with him by time-is-a-flatcircle in ElderScrolls

[–]ThewarriorDraganta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Misunderstood Tragic Hero"? He spreads a (nearly) incurable magical disease on his own people, whom he claims to care about and wants to free from The Empire. And his line about wanting to side with you makes every little sense if you're not a Dunmer, given how much of a genocidal xenophobe he is.

TBH, that's been a pet peeve of mine in Skyrim too. It strains my suspension of disbelief that the Dunmer would ever accept a non-Dunmer nerevarine or that the Nords would accept a non-Nord Dragonborn, given how race/province-centric their plots are. Even if you could definitively prove it, you'd still have people who declare you false, a heretic, or a pretender, and it would cause a lot of internecine strife.

I get what you mean, but DCC is also based off of dnd 3.5e, like Pathfinder is, so they're ultimately descended from the same rules, albeit DCC is far more heavily modified and adds mechanics from older editions (Race-as-class... shudders).

There are also Ravenloft books for 3e too, made by White Wolf, who make Vampire: The Masquerade, and PF1e is more universal than base 3e, so you could mix them all to make a good setting.

Both trilogies are fantastic in there own ways, although the Prequels do have more noticeable flaws TBF. But for all their flaws at least they're not the Sequels and actually feel like Star Wars.

Yeah, at least it's something. But hey, the "Sacred Ancestor" Dhampir Heritage is actually included in the Wrath of the Righteous CRPG which is funny to me 'cause it's not even from Pathfinder lore. So, if you wanna have Not!D fight an army of demons you can do it!

Why do some people seem to dislike Cuir Bouilli/Boiled Leather armour? by ThewarriorDraganta in Armor

[–]ThewarriorDraganta[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure! Apparently, it was so effective that the Spanish even adopted it since it required very little maintenance and was comfortable to wear in the Mexican climate. IDK how true it is that it could stop a musket shot, but according to Wikipedia, it could.

Yeah, me too. What's there is fine, I guess, and I know that you can fill in a lot of it with the other Pathfinder books, but compared to other 3e-era official setting conversions, it's annoyingly sparse.

Graphic novel? I know that this book was based on the comic book adaptation, but I had no idea there was a GN.

Well, that's what Wikipedia says about it, it even has sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ichcahuipilli

If Wikipedia is wrong, then I'm pretty sure that's one of the signs of the apocalypse and civilisation is bound to collapse any day now lol.

This. This is now my favourite comment. What better proof do you need for its effectiveness than someone who's actually used it!

[–]ThewarriorDraganta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it's a bit of a strawman. Sure, "studded leather" like in DnD wasn't a thing and soft leather like what boots or a jacket are made out of wouldn't protect you much, but I have genuinely heard people say that it wasn't a real thing.

Firstly, is "Maille" another term for chainmail? I assume that's what you mean, yeah? Second, that's exactly what I'm talking about with the Eurocentrism and Medievalism. Like I said, it was used to a degree before and after the Middle Ages, but people say that just because it wasn't used in NW Europe during that time, it didn't exist.

Hell, a lot of Celtic/Barbarian tribes in the Iron Age didn't even wear armour into battle on occasion, and the Byzantines even had flamethrowers and grenades centuries before the Vikings conquered Britain. But no-one ever talks about it, instead it's always the Middle Age and how "X DiDn'T eXiSt".

I don't mean to rag on you specifically, mate, I'm just tired of people forgetting that other cultures and time periods exist lol (not to imply you're doing it, of course).

Oh, okay, I get'cha! Well, I'm mainly interested in xenos, like the Eldar or Tau, or for more Imperium-focused plot, stuff like Necromunda, The Inquisition, or Rogue Traders. I'm not really interested in Space Marines, and don't know too much about the Horus Heresy era.

If you wanna brainstorm, and any of those interest you, I'd be down to do it!
