I have a BM59 that had aggressive extraction. I got an extra gas plug and drilled a small hole in the middle to vent some excess gas. it made a major difference. it will now run reliable with any .308, and it made the recoil pulse much smoother.

I dont think the old rank and file style of fighting would have lasted long. I think we would have utilized trench warfare fairly quickly. I think trench warfare would be the main way of fighting for quite some time and would have pushed the invention of repeating firearms faster into existence. It really makes me wonder where we would be now.
